he’s no prisoner of conscience, but if they’d be willing to negotiate a prisoner swap, and have the israelis release 1,000 palestinian teenagers for one jonathan pollard, i’m all for it.
...and only if they throw in the release of Mordechai Vanunu to boot...along with Julian Assange, a man who truly deserves a Nobel Peace Prize
Maybe you shouldn't. Certain universal principles should trump other loyalties.
It’s not implausible that at 3 am we would drop our ‘eternal ally’ like a hot potato...
For the sake of clarity, we should stop refering to Israel as an "ally." There is no alliance between the United States and Israel. Without her declaring her territorial boundaries first, an alliance between the United States and Israel remains a legal impossibility.
FTA: "It is possible that Iraq would have been less violent if Iraqis had been left to make their own history. At least one thing is certain; thousands of young American service men and women would still be alive, and thousands more would be uninjured."
Yet one more thing is also sure: America's debt would be less by at least several hundred billion dollars. (God help any country too stupid not to know not to "nation build.")
Geller and Spencer together. Truly, politics does make for strange bedfellows.
“ANY SMART JEW KNOWS Shikses are for fun …don’t marry them”
I imagine Bill Clinton kinda thought something similar in reverse when Monical Lewinsky first flashed her overstretched thong at him.
Many guys in my frat prefered Jewish girlfriends. They knew how to and would do things that most non-Jewish girls wouldn't even consider doing to their husbands once they had married.
FTA:"In the anti-communist witch hunts conducted at the beginning of the Cold War, the ADL assisted and acted as a go-between for both the Congressional committees and members or former members of the CPUSA who chose to inform on their former comrades and friends, including, in at least one instance, family members."
I wonder how this will play in Hollywood? Their therapists will be working overtime this week.
"So the final analysis is that Israel uses the entire apparatus of the state for illegal and racist activity. "
How ironic: After America spent so much treasure (and some blood) to insure everyone was able to enjoy his civil rights equally here, increasingly scarce American tax dollars are being used to take away the civil rights of people in the "Holy" Land.
"I assume that in 1936, 74 years ago, the home belonged to someone Jewish and it is upon that basis that they are making their claim. "
Wow. That's largely the same rational Osama bin Laden asserts for Islam's right to take back Spain and other European countries once strongholds of Islam.
Amazing how much all you semites have in common. But, then, the fight between Judaism and Islam is, at bottom, nothing more than a family spat...albeit one that's become unbelievably expensive for the United States.
Has anyone yet been able to reach Chaim Saban for his opinion on this?
Perhaps Mr. Saban would be pleased if the LAPD were to assist the denizens of East LA and Watts in making themselves at home at his estate?
Loyalty oaths? Revocation of citizenship? Prosecution of citizens for speech?
Bibi now only needs to find a mentally impaired Dutchman to burn down the Knesset, so he can get that state of emergency he's hankering after.
History repeats itself, first as tragedy and then as farce.
Before we can ever have a fully honest debate about our RELATIONSHIP with Israel, we need to stop refering to her as an ally. She is NOT an ally, and an alliance with her is a legal impossibility without her first defining her territorial boundaries, something, which for reasons I will not speculate upon her, she steadfastly refuses to do.
An excellent piece debunking the strategic "ally" myth: link to original.antiwar.com
To extend American freedoms by imposing them from without upon a people or country who never made war upon us is the height of illogic. Whatever we impose, thus, can hardly be called freedom and is more akin to what the Soviets (or even Napoleon) tried to with their export of revolution.
True conservatism is honest and grounded in deeply thought out principles and humility and recognizes that in this imperfect world things are often best left to develop on their own or at least modestly, gradually and imperceptibly.
These messianic neo-cons are a danger to the US and to world peace, and at least people are starting now to recognize them for the vipers, (albeit "well-intentioned" vipers) that they truly are.
America has the Christian fundies, Islam has the Wahhabis and Judaism has the Haredi. There's something strangely comforting in realizing religious insanity isn't the provenance of just one religion.
Bibi and his boys can put out hasbarat until all the world's land fills are crammed full with them, yet it can't stop the world from seeing the fundamental wrongness of current Israeli policy.
One can falsely scream "anti-semite!" all one wishes, but that can't hide forever that Israel is an apartheid state.
In the end truth always wins out.
Is it any wonder so many in the world think the US is a hypocrite and now a joke?
For all the billions we've paid to Israel, shouldn't we expect some satisfaction for our money? We're like some comic character, a semi-addled man now in his dotage who continues to pay obscene sums to a hooker only to have her publicly berate, betray and embarass him all the while refusing to give him what he's paid for.
Don't buy products from Keter, complicit in Israel's colonial system.
I still have nieces and nephews of a young enough age where they might have enjoyed products manufactured by Keter. But, since I can't abide supporting even indirectly a system of government that discriminates against many of its own citizens, I'll leave all Keter products on the shelf.
Has anyone stopped to consider that Dr. Krauthammer really might not be compos mentis?
I have no information about Dr. Krauthammer's personal medical history, but let me theorize. (My apologies to anyone ahead of time if they find this embarassing, but when someone is beating the drums for war as loudly as Dr. Krauthammer, it is morally imperative to examine that person's mental health.)
Dr. Krauthammer is a quadriplegic and is probably catheterized, so, no doubt, he has had episodes of cystitis and more serious bladder infections. Any urinary tract infection can cause confusion and dementia, and it should come would be no surprise if Dr. Krauthammer also suffered this symptom.
It is frightening to imagine that Dr. Krauthammer might have beat the drums for war because he had a drug resistant strain of pseudomans in his system rather than because of any genuine moral conviction.
When Krauthammer writes his column, when he spouts his crazy stuff on television, it's obvious he isn't clear headed and rational, and it would be useful to find if there's some organic cause at the bottom of it all.
Good for Ireland.
It looks as if the Irish government, at least, cares about keeping the vital information of its citizens from theft by the Mossad.
And aren’t we all happy we got Hillary Clinton this time…
Lighten up.
It's America, and we can now see that in America, even the Queen of the harpies can be Secretary of State.
It may be premature to imagine but it really sounds to me like the character of our relationships with Britain and Germany particularly have changed, specifically as one country has had a change of government and the other is looking forward to one.
If it's necessary for America's relations with these countries to first go into the crapper before we effectively retire the neocons and the other members of the The War Party and cure our nation feverd with dreams of being the global hegemon, then please, God, let it come to pass quickly.
I'm a dyed-in-the-wool conservative, so I didn't vote for Obama in 2008. But, if he ever tells Bibi to sod off, I'll sign up to work on his 2012 campaign.
Doesn't anyone wonder if this wasn't a bit of disinformation? A story purposely planted to make the IDF troops look like just "good, wholesome boys?" (Aw, shucks, fellows.) An attempt to defuse the negative perception toward the IDF growing throughout the world?
This reminds me of the story about Bill and Hill's outrage at being "caught" dancing privately on the beach.
