Thousands of zionists from around the world arrived into Al Khalil (Hebron) on Friday, camping overnight in the centre of the city for a Jewish religious holiday. Harassment and abuse were widespread and freedom of movement for Palestinian people was severely restricted. Several attacks occurred and the zionists invaded the Palestinian souq (market) for tours for around five hours.

HEBRON (Ma’an) — Settlers in Hebron threw stones at a Palestinian man on Saturday, causing moderate head injuries, medics said. Samir Jaber, 20, was taken to hospital for treatment after settlers from Kiryat Arba threw stones at him in an unprovoked attack. Hebron was split into areas of Palestinian and Israeli control under a 1997 agreement. The Israeli military-controlled H2 zone includes the ancient Old City, home of the revered Ibrahimi Mosque — also split into a synagogue referred to as the Tomb of the Patriarchs.

Earlier in the morning, house-owner Khalid al-Hamed, his two sons and two international activists spent some hours lifting rocks out of a pit outside the house where the major water pipes are. Settlers have previously thrown those rocks down into the pit attempting to break the pipes.  At around 12:15 one settler arrived and filmed this activity from the road.

Land Theft & Destruction / Ethnic Cleansing / Restriction of Movement / Apartheid & Occupation

Hundreds of Palestinians are being evacuated from the northern Jordan Valley to make way for an Israeli military training exercise, local officials told Ma’an news agency. According to several village council heads in the Jordan Valley, an estimated 1,500 Palestinians will be displaced by the exercise, which begins on Sunday. Al-Malih and al-Madareb council chief Aref Daraghmeh said some families would be permitted to return after the two-day exercise, while others were told to leave their homes permanently. He said several Israeli departments were working together to pressure Palestinians to leave the Jordan Valley in order to build Jewish settlements and military bases. Al-Malih resident Abu Mohammad told Ma’an that despite having lived in the village for decades, he would be leaving out of fear for his safety. His house had been hit by Israeli artillery before, he said.

According to documents obtained by Haaretz, the defense minister approved the plan in September; Jewish council has been pressing for construction since murder of Fogel family.

On Friday, Palestinians and internationals blocked the Gush Etzion junction in the southern West Bank, the central entry point leading to the Gush Etzion settlement bloc, halting traffic for 15 minutes. The action sought to highlight the restriction of movement experienced by Palestinians on a daily basis throughout the occupied Palestinian Territories. One activist was arrested.

For the last few years, the Friday demonstration in the West Bank village of Al Ma’sara has been a consistent but modestly sized protest against the Israeli separation wall. Like many weekly demonstrations throughout Palestine, numbers have shrunk from initial hundreds due to arrests and intimidation by Israeli forces, as well as the use of various crowd control techniques like tear gas and sound bombs. Yet the demonstrations have continued, with the gathering of local, international, and Israel activists sometimes outnumbered by the Israeli soldiers that block their way.

Elta, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries, has agreed to resume the production of the airborne warning and control systems for Turkish spy planes, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported on Friday. According to the report, this would allow the long-delayed transfer of four Boeing 737 AWACS planes, that were built for a total of $1.6 billion, to be completed. More importantly, the decision, which would have to be approved by the Defense Ministry, may indicate that the government is softening its stance on defense exports to Turkey, the report said. Turkey had ordered the 737-700 AWACs plane from Boeing in 2002, and Elta had committed to equip them with early warning systems for about $100 million.

Apartheid, by any other name, Gideon Levy
No, Israel is not an apartheid state, but the occupation in the territories is apartheid. Are we really as terrible as all that? Anyone who tries to draw a comparison between the occupation regime in the territories to the South African apartheid regime – and their number is rising constantly – is instantly labeled anti-Israel and anti-Semitic. But the facts justify the comparison. No, Israel is not an apartheid state, but the occupation in the territories is apartheid. The comparison is legitimate. It’s a good thing that it upsets a lot of Israelis – perhaps their anger will prod them into looking at the occupation for once. But that isn’t to say there are no differences between the two regimes, between the tyranny of the Israeli occupation and segregation regime of preliberation South Africa. The biggest difference, unfortunately, is that apartheid is gone while the occupation is only becoming further entrenched.

Rami Levy’s supermarket chains are a hit in Israeli settlements, so it came as a surprise that the Israeli businessman was invited – along with Arab politicians – to a wealthy Palestinian’s mansion in the West Bank to talk politics.

Six of one, half-a-dozen of the other: Israel’s elections are a sham, Asa Winstanley
It was recently announced that new Israeli elections will take place in 2013. But on the issues that matter, there are no real differences between the Zionist parties.

‘It’s time for Palestinians in Israel to stand firm against the Bantustan plan of Oslo’: An interview with Awad Abdel Fattah, Jonathan Cook
The following interview was conducted in Nazareth with Awad Abdel Fattah, secretary general of the National Democratic Assembly party. The NDA (Al-Tajamoa in Arabic, and Balad in Hebrew) is one of three parties in the Israeli parliament representing Israel’s Palestinian minority, which numbers 1.4 million and comprises nearly a fifth of the country’s population.

Palestine Entangled, Ramzy Baroud
In Malaysia, a small group of community activists are busy at work developing projects that benefit most vulnerable members of Palestinian society in Gaza. Working under the umbrella of Viva Palestina Malaysia (VPM), the group shows solidarity through empowerment projects: interest free loans for micro projects, providing employment for women, supplying thousands of solar lamps aimed at ending the persistent darkness for many families, and more. The overall value of the combined efforts of VPM is important, because it is long-lasting. But equally important, the channeled funds are not part of a political scheme nor are aimed to exact concession. This can hardly be said of much of the relationship between Palestinian leadership and society, and outside funds, which began pouring in, with a clear political manual that has been dutifully followed by those who provide the funds and those who receive them.

Putting Palestine on the Map
With the US embroiled in Afghanistan’s endless theater, the debate around insurgencies has once more taken hold. In 2007, Jeffery Record’s Beating Goliath detailed the story of how some insurgencies end up defeating their much more powerful adversaries. Three years later, the RAND Corporation published Ben Connable and Martin Libicki’s How Insurgencies End, which showed that such struggles last for ten years, giving the stubborn Goliath the best odds if they are able to quell public opinion in their own country and break the support networks for their David. The US War College’s Thomas Mockaitis’ 2011 study Resolving Insurgencies found that most rebellions degenerate into criminal organizations or small terrorist networks, both unable to sustain the political goals that initiated them. All this is salutary reading for tone-deaf policy makers, who would like to see the Afghan story follow this script: let it become a drug infeudated oligarchy and lose popular support. It is simply not what has happened.

A Zionist Tribute to Fred Halliday (I): A Critique of Susie Linfield’s Review in The Nation, Asad AbuKhalil
The Nation magazine has long ceased to be a leftist magazine. It has served for years now as a mere propaganda sheet for the Democratic Party. On foreign policy, it has pretty much adhered to the Zionism of Amos Oz: the Zionism that accepts and approves of Israeli massacres of women and children, but then feigns concern when the number of victims reaches too high a figure, for their taste. The magazine has surrendered its coverage of Palestine, either to no one at all, or to people who parrot Zionist principles.

“Netanyahu meeting with foreign diplomats to ‘prepare international public opinion for an Israeli operation in Gaza’”

Ground control to Captain Pork- “you may take off now “

An ‘operation’ where hundreds of innocent people get wounded, mutilated and killed, whilst their already inadequate infrastructure is destroyed (again) is the preferred election tactic for putative demagogic flag waving dictators in Israel it seems. Yes, how does one ‘prepare’ international opinion for that? Charades? Cartoons? drawings of a big bad scary bomb at the UN?

Criminal summons the witnesses.

He’s barbaric. He makes Bluebeard seem like a boy scout.

“[P]repare international public opinion for an Israeli operation in Gaza”
He’s so coarse he thinks this is statesmanship. If Netanyahu were the parent and the Gazans the child and he pulled this sort of mental and physical torture on a child in this country for as many years as he’s been engineering this, we would have him locked up in jail for two lifetimes.

Israel can’t hit Iran without crippling Gaza as a warning first. This is preparation and practice for what is to come. No one has ever bombed an operating nuclear facility and Bushehr is an old containment, a Russian reactor, a mix of old and new technology and reactor that would have been impossible to accurately model in critical states.

If this is what is being planned RUN! Get out of Gaza, get out of Israel and get out of anywhere within 500KMS of a nuclear facility in Iran. RUN, RUN FAST!
