Israeli embassy is now BuzzFeed contributor, posting alarmist map of threats to Jewish state

on 22 Comments

The Israeli Embassy is now a “community” contributor to the popular website BuzzFeed.  Tweets Rosie Gray of BuzzFeed:

As a community member, Israel-in-the-US has posted a map of the threats faced by Israel:

(Image: BuzzFeed)

(Image: BuzzFeed)

And, of course, the accompanying text hectors us about Iran:

And, as attention in the Middle East jumps from one hotspot to another, the public is losing sight of the greatest threat to international peace and security: Iran’s military nuclear program. Iran is developing its breakout capacity by stockpiling large quantities of low enriched uranium, expanding its ability to swiftly enrich uranium, and advancing a parallel plutonium track.

Some may say the map is alarmist. Undeniably, the map is our geopolitical reality, and we will be vigilant in protecting our people and our borders.

Here are the rules for getting into the BuzzFeed community. Apparently the British Embassy is a member of the community. Most BuzzFeed Community posts seem to be cultural trivia and funny lists and videos.

Some of the commenters who have tweeted Rosie Gray don’t like Israel’s contribution:

Matthew Niles: very innovative/disruptive for a ‘news’ outlet to give feature space to PR machines and hardline-right think tanks

Rayan al Qab: this is disgusting propaganda. I can’t believe Buzzfeed would be so blind and stupid.

Debra Murphy: If disgusting revolting propaganda is the new cool – then yes.

The Israeli Embassy has responded to these tweets: “Are you challenging that peace is not important? That Hamas and Hezbollah have not targeted civilians?”

Thanks to Max Blumenthal– “desert bloom denier”–whose new book Goliath will be out soon…

“the greatest threat to international peace and security: Iran’s military nuclear program.”

Such a parody . The West has attacked 9 Middle East and North African countries in the last 15 years. International peace is for OECD countries only.

Is the Israeli government capable of any honest introspection? Even an eensy- weensy, itty- bitty bit would be welcome.

Hmm lets see, Israel have attacked EVERY one of these states past year, some multiple times (Syria, Gaza, Lebanon).
How could anyone hate Israel mr ambassador? Oh how could that be?!

Shame on Buzzfeed for spreading Hasbara.

“Meanwhile back at BDS Cardiff .

Ahead of Israel show, Tom Jones gets the BDS treatment
After Alicia Keys, it’s Jones’s turn: Welsh singer scheduled to play in Israel at center of boycott campaign aimed at persuading him to cancel visit.

For those wishing to sign the petition —
It is through but as the Welsh branch are the originators it is only fair to get their numbers up.They are at some 3500 at present.

Hmmm…there’s no mention of the fact that Israel is an oppressive, colonialist, expansionist and supremacist state, or that it possesses weapons of mass destruction. Nor is there any mention of Israel’s past and on-going:
    – colonization of Palestine;
    – (war) crimes, including terrorism, ethnic cleansing, torture and the use of chemical weapons; or
    – refusal to honour its commitments under international law, and to enter into sincere negotiations for a just and mutually-beneficial peace.

The USA has signed no mutual defense treaty with Israel; please, Israeli Embassy, explain to the American public living outside the D.C. Beltway why they should be told to fight yet another unpopular war to preserve the status quo of Israeli power and apartheid in the Middle East.

(I’d also like to know how many children of the bi-partisan Washington D.C. power brokers are currently serving in the U.S. military- my educated guess is zero to none)

    Threats facing Israel

    1. Zionism
    2 Zionism
3 An inflated sense of entitlement
4 An inflated sense of Jewish capability
    5 Zionism

      That’s a list to file away. :)

But the issue is larger than this: what is being threatened by these items is not merely Israel — but the worldwide Jewish community and Judaism, which have completely attached their reputation and destiny to Zionism. They have permitted themselves to be boxed in and controlled by whatever Israeli regime might fly off the cliff and into the brink — and they seem to have left themselves no escape hatch.

        It is such a tragedy.

Israel has had a nuclear program since the 1960s, and has hundreds of nukes on permanent alert, but begrudges Iran the one nuke. Why? What’s the difference?
Iran is a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Israel is not.
Iran’s facilities are periodically inspected by the IAEA. Israel never has allowed in the inspectors. Dimona is also way past its prime…

Since its creation, Israel has been in a constant state of war, at home and abroad, some more deadly than others. Iran has not invaded another country in 200 years.

Israel is a theocracy dominated by medieval orthodoxy, but begrudges other ME countries their own theocracies. Why?

The ME, for centuries, has had large Jewish communities in their midst, none of which have been harassed by the dominant religion. Why? Because the adherents share their antecedents with the local Muslims? (Shlomo Sand “The Invention of the Jewish People”)

Israel’s obsession is to create a greater Israel, from the Nile to the Euphrates. Why?
They have no hope of ever being able to control it, short of nuking it. But what’s the point in that?

And on, and on, ad nauseam. Even as the world’s revulsion grows.
Which part of “Israel is a mortal danger unto itself by its own chosen stupidity” do these people fail to grasp?

Their PR is preaching to their (shrinking?) choir. What’s the point in that?

And there go the last shreds of Buzzfeed’s credibility: “One minute, you’re a happy community hosting cute videos of Ninja shawarma chefs, the next you’re a dumb outlet for shrewd media manipulators who delightedly use your brand and publishing tools to peddle corrosive materials.”

    According to Israel…
    – Terrorism is an existential threat to Israel.
    – Al Qaeda is an existential threat to Israel.
    – The Muslim Brotherhood is an existential threat to Israel.
    – Arab anti-Semitism is an existential threat to Israel.

    According to Israel…
    – Iran is an existential threat to Israel.
    – Syria is an existential threat to Israel.
    – Hamas is an existential threat to Israel.
    – The PLO is an existential threat to Israel.
    – Hizbullah is an existential threat to Israel.

    According to Israel…
    – IHH is an existential threat to Israel.
    – The Free Gaza Flotilla is an existential threat to Israel.
    – The non-violent Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign is an existential threat to Israel.
    – The International pro-Palestinian human rights movement is an existential threat to Israel.

    According to Israel…
    – The free movement of Palestinians in their ancestral homeland is an existential threat to Israel.
    – Chocolate, biscuits & sweets, fresh meat, vinegar, toys, writing implements, notebooks, heaters, musical instruments, cement, etc in Gaza are an existential threat to Israel.

To a man with only a hammer, says the proverb, every problem looks like a nail

Never before has a belligerent nuclear-armed regional superpower,
which is financially, militarily and diplomatically backed by the world’s strongest nuclear-armed superpower,
and that has invaded all five of its neighbours (and still occupies territory from three),
been threatened by so many perceived internal and external “existential threats”
(threats which it chooses to confront using more military aggression).

The last time a belligerent nuclear-armed regional superpower felt threatened by so many perceived “existential threats”,
it bowed to international boycotts and diplomatic pressure,
released the leader of the “terrorist” organisation (considered its biggest threat) from jail,
abandoned its supremacist laws and segregated bantustans,
and learned to co-exist in a one-state solution with the very same indigenous inhabitants it had dispossessed, oppressed and routinely massacred.

The last time a belligerent conventionally-armed regional superpower felt threatened by so many perceived “existential threats”,
it allied itself with two other like-minded belligerent powers,
    and started a worldwide war.

For the purpose of scaring people, the most of the West Bank & it looks like maybe E. Jerusalem aren’t part of Israel. For most other purposes Israel claims a lot of these areaas.

Well, I guess this is the behavior of Israeli soldiers that will get them ‘punished’ by the government– not all that other killing, harassing, brutal stuff:

“The video clip was uploaded to the web on Tuesday, with the title “Israeli soldiers dancing at a Palestinian wedding in Hebron.” With the popular song “Gangam Style” playing in the background, the solders are seen capering about the dance floor. The soldiers dancing while clad in full gear, including helmets, vests, and weapons, make for a bizarre sight. The partygoers seemed to think so as well, as the video shows many people whip out their cellphones to document the strange scene. After a few moments, some of the other people at the party even hoist the soldiers up onto their shoulders. The “joint” celebration continues for a few minutes, and the party’s DJ seems to be happy with the situation, as he can be seen clapping along in the video as well.

The IDF was not particularly pleased with the video, which raises doubts as to whether or not the soldiers in question followed regulations during that patrol. The soldiers could have easily caused some kind of clash with the partygoers, with serious consequences, rather than a slightly funny, if not bizarre video clip. Ditching a patrol to join in on the dance floor, even for a few minutes, is most likely a violation of standing orders.

The IDF Spokesperson’s unit has not released an official response, but an IDF official stated that “the clip has been taken down from the web, and the soldiers that were involved and participated in the party have been suspended pending an investigation.” ”

This made me think that they really could be ‘friends’, if allowed. Peace has emerged from stranger incidents…….

      WEST BANK:
Radical forces opposing the Palestinian Authority and a culture of conflict generate strong anti-Israel incitement and hatred.

Yes, that’s a pretty accurate description of Israeli settlers in the West Bank.

The only good thing about this hideous addition to buzzfeed is that the comments section shows how disgusting Israel’s supporters are.

“Arabs are vile savage scum and subhuman who worship only death and destruction and all homogenously love the Taliban and want to impose SHARIAH PUNISHMENTS! THEY ARE CANCEROUS! DERP DEE HOO DERP!”

“But isn’t this a shameless Israeli propaganda piece that omits crucial facts and distorts the truth?”

Christ, even I don’t need my suspicions confirmed about the nature of Israel’s internet supporters all the time. It’s just depressing.
