A Florida-based anti-Muslim organization has a new target: journalist Max Blumenthal.
The Florida Family Association has called on supporters to inundate the inbox of an Arizona hotel because Blumenthal is speaking there at an event sponsored by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Their message: Blumenthal is a propagandist, and the Hilton hotel in Mesa, Arizona shouldn’t host him or CAIR there.
The fringe group claims that Blumenthal “helped write” CAIR’s 2013 report exposing the network of Islamophobes in the U.S. But Blumenthal had nothing to do with writing the report. The group also says that the award-winning author of the new book Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel is one of the top “Islamophobe propagandists” in America.
“How many American patriots will Max Blumenthal malign with his twisted propaganda as the top speaker at the CAIR AZ banquet?” the group asks. “Americans who are concerned about Max Blumenthal’s propaganda and CAIR’s agenda have the First Amendment Right to complain about this event and choose hoteliers who do not give place to the same.”
Blumenthal is set to address a CAIR banquet in Arizona on November 9. The Hilton is standing firm.
The Florida Family Association’s head is David Caton, a fundamentalist Christian who used to have a laser-eye focus on gays. In recent years, though, he’s sought to tap into anti-Muslim sentiment to boost his organization’s standing.
Caton is a fringe political player. But he did manage to have success–and make headlines–when he campaigned against the TLC reality show “All-American Muslim.” His group’s campaign against Al Jazeera America was also recently covered in the Tampa Tribune.
So these are the same loonies who protested a show about an American Muslim family?

Florida Family Association is one vicious, bible-thumping anti-Muslim pervert with an email list. He, Caton, can be dangerous, e.g., he coxed a big consumer retail building supply company to quit supporting the tv documentary on benign everyday Muslims in America. Caton is the right-wing crank who was behind the campaign that led to Lowe’s withdrawing advertising from the All-American Muslim TV show. In his article on the Florida Family Association website denouncing Kelly Miliziano, Caton cites Pamela Geller’s Atlas Shrugs, Robert Spencer’s Jihad Watch and Steven Emerson’s Investigative Project on Terrorism as sources.
I condemn any violation of freedom of speech. Any person is free to express his views without fear, charges or interference from any person or group whatsoever.
