Video: Israeli border police brutally beat Palestinian youth (Update)

Update: The person in the video is 15-year-old Palestinian-America Tarek Abu Khdeir. Rania Khalek reporting for Electronic Intifada:

Salahedeen Khdeir, Tariq’s father, told The Electronic Intifada by phone from Shuafat that the Palestinian in the video is his son Tariq and that the footage was recorded by neighbors who then released it to a Palestinian media outlet.

Salahedeen says Tariq was visiting his uncle’s house in an area devoid of clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians when he and five other youths were attacked in the yard by two masked Israeli police agents.

Tariq was roughed up the worst, beaten so badly that he lost consciousness. But that didn’t stop the Israeli forces from arresting Tariq and the others without charge and preventing Tariq from receiving medical treatment for five hours.

Original post:

International Middle East Media Center (IMEMC) posted this horrific video of Israeli border police brutally beating a Palestinian man in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Shufat yesterday.

Palestine Today TV posted a video which shows masked Israeli border police in riot gear beating and kicking a Palestinian man until he lost consciousness.

Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said that he was unaware of the incident and had not seen the images, according to Ma’an.

In another article IMEMC  reports on the brutal Israeli police assault on a 15-year-old Palestinian-America child named Tarek Abu Khdeir from Tampa, Florida (whom we featured earlier today here). Israeli police are refusing to look at a surveillance video showing Abu Khdeir’s assailants. Tarek Abu Khdeir is the cousin Muhammad Abu Khdeir who was burned alive on Wednesday and laid to rest today.

According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society over 170 Palestinians have been injured since Monday, at least six being journalists.

972 has a video of the mob attacking a Palestinian on a bus

A Jew is by the nature of his creation a purer being. Similarly with the holiness of the land: The soil of Israel is essentially holier, the stones are holier because the land was destined by God to serve as the place of the Children of Israel. And the buses are also holier.

CNN and EI both report that US State Dept will not comment because of privacy. My understanding is if Tarek’s family would like US government agencies to discuss the case with the media, a parent of Tarek would need to sign a privacy waiver presented by US consulate.
