Hewlett-Packard is having a big conference in Boston and activists are mobilizing a thunderclap campaign to dramatize the company’s complicity in occupation and massacre in Palestine. They are urging folks to tweet at the hashtag #HPBigData2014.

“Did you know? Hewlett-Packard enables Israel’s massacre of Palestinians in Gaza #BDS #Boston4Gaza #HPBigData2014

From the campaign:

Israel’s massacre of Palestinians in Gaza would not be possible without Hewlett-Packard technology, which the military uses to restrict and control the occupied Palestinian population. HP powers Israeli military checkpoints and produces the biometric identification system which Israel uses to determine who can enter and exit occupied areas. HP also runs the Israeli navy’s information infrastructure, which enables the military bombardment of Gaza from the sea. If that isn’t enough, HP technology also enables the control of immigrants and incarcerated people here in the US.

August 11th is the first day of Hewlett-Packard’s “Big Data” conference in Boston, MA, and thousands of Boston activists intend to march there to protest HP’s complicity in Israeli violence. But to really drive the point home to march attendees, we need supporters all over the world to use the official conference hashtag, #HPBigData2014, to call attention to HP’s role in war and human rights violations

Writes one tweeter:

I will never buy a HP product again. Disgraceful HP supports genocide and war crimes.

More on HP’s investments, here.

And don’t forget Intel, another company that is already on the BDS list.

Edwin Black’s IBM and the Holocaust: The Strategic Alliance Between Nazi Germany and America’s Most Powerful Corporation-Expanded Edition details the important role IBM played in enabling the Holocaust. Hollerith cards supplied by IBM’s German subsidiary — with the knowledge and encouragement of the parent corporation — were used to track census data in Germany, so that Jews could be identified, tracked, and, eventually, killed.

I would like to suggest to SJP groups to make your presence felt at campus recruiting fairs where H-P and Intel are represented.
