Keffiyehs in Harlem in ‘Ghetto to Gaza’ rap

on 18 Comments

Talib Kweli and M1 (of Dead Prez), with the help of beatmakers Beatnick & K-Salaam, have issued a single, “Checkpoints: Ghetto To Gaza” about the connections between the oppression of African-Americans in the US and that of Palestinians. M1 sings:

A checkpoint, a checkpoint, everywhere a checkpoint

On a Palestinian shopowner:

Little did they know that I could be a supporter.

Gaza echoing to Vietnam:

They train the military to immolate shit that they did in the late 60s.

Talib Kweli

My heart goes out to Palestine

Sorry OT but some good news on the UEFA 2020 soccer competition.

    ” Israel’s Euro 2020 soccer bid fails
BDS Movement takes partial credit, although attempt to host part of soccer final seemed to have been doomed by ‘fundamentally’ flawed bid.

“The Irish Times singled out Israel as “fundamentally extremely flawed.” It noted that Jerusalem’s bid failed to include the projected number of available hotel beds and lacked details regarding the venue, Teddy Stadium. ”

Imagine , the nation with all those Nobel prize winners is incapable of presenting a credible bid to run a soccer game.

Jut as well they are not going to be hosting a game.

The next step is to get them kicked out of UEFA.They are not in Europe so should not be even considered.

seems like in the name of sportsmanship Israel
should have been kicked out of the world football program
      when ‘they’ arrested/shot/killed Palestine players
      G-d Bless

Didn,t you hear. They tried those guys but found the victims guilty of existing as non Jews in the so called Jewish state.

The IDF was simply carrying out orders.

        Hi Amigo
no i hadn’t heard it’s too sad/bad more shame to Israel
and those that support the unjust choices that Israel makes
it seems football fans have a ‘higher’ set of rules
        than many (world) leaders
football fans come from every group and find
common ground where fair and just is
debated by and with one and all
‘you’ can’t buy a football fans opinion
you have to win it fairly
Palestine sports need more world support
        G-d Bless

Raising the keffiyeh and awareness– always a good thing! New/more people will be informed.

I read about the failed bid this morning amigo. I am glad, and I agree with your suggestion for the next step.

Apparently AIPAC is now pushing what this writer thinks is its own poison pill, a bill for US government to apply BDS to American companies supporting BDS of Israel:

    They getting desperate?

    • Citizen on September 21, 2014, 2:34 pm

I mean such legislation in the face of American free speech (including hip-hop)?

    • Gene Shae on September 24, 2014, 11:01 am

So, why does an organization that controls the US congress now feel desperate? Your mouths are speaking differently.

Lyric check: I think “immolate” should be “emulate” in the Vietnam reference.

Dead Prez have always been supporters of Palestine. Their music isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but if you’re really into hip-hop, these guys are as real as it gets. Same goes with Talib Kweli and Mos Def, KRS-One, Immortal Technique, and Lupe Fiasco.

I love Immortal Technique, and MosDef especially after Bill Maher sneered at him.
