Shmuley Boteach taunts Palestinian solidarity demonstrators in NY

The very-well-connected Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, simultaneously a friend of rightwinger Sheldon Adelson and of Obama’s ambassador to the UN Samantha Power, taunts anti-occupation demonstrators in New York over the weekend. He breaks off shouting, “Down with Palestinian–” when he sees he’s being video’d. That seems to put him in a bad mood, before he asks police if the demonstrators have a permit and then thrusts his fists to the sky for Israel.

Adalah NY issued this statement about the video:

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach taunted a crowd of human rights protesters in front of the seemingly closed and emptied flagship Leviev diamond store on Madison Avenue. Leviev’s companies have built thousands of Israeli settlement homes and have been accused of abusing and torturing Angolan diamond miners.

Boteach stood in front of the empty Leviev store and began shouting. “Israel,” “Down with Hamas,” “Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East,” “Down with the Palestinians.” He suddenly stopped and complained that he was being videotaped. Police told Boteach to leave as he was drowned out by chants of, “How fancy, how pretty, Leviev out of New York City.” Boteach was accompanied by a young man wearing a scarf for the notoriously racist Beitar Jerusalem football team. Boteach has expressed his support for Hebron’s notoriously violent and racist settlers: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rabbi-s…

Neighboring store owners told the protesters that the Leviev store had closed and the space had been sold, but it was impossible to confirm this. Human rights advocates have protested at Leviev’s store since 2007.

Lol .. he seemed he did not know he was being filled, he ducks away. Palestinian Solidarity Demonstrators made it extra special singing Christmas Carrol’s and not allowing him to take over. Asking NY PD if they have a permit? The nerve on him. Have him drop the Rabbi out of his name. He is about making $$ like Christian Zionist fake pastor John Hauge
Hamas is the thrown in all Zionist supports necks.

Boteach is a disgraceful human being. The fact he’s well connected shows how bad it is in the US. Those pro-justice protestors drowned out his petty squeaks without a fraction of the panting. There is an almost disbelief in his attitude; he just can’t handle it out outside his Zionist tribal bubble. He should blow some Sodastream up his rear for leverage.

  3. traintosiberia on December 21, 2014, 12:25 pm

Did the Rabbi ask if he had a permission to stage a counter protest? Or is it given since he is what he is?

Gotta love the human rights believers singing with their santa hats on! There could not be a better contrast…

    • bilal a on December 22, 2014, 12:36 pm

along with the santa regalia, , it seemed they were making a mockery of traditional xmas carols

the protestors need a pr consultant

unless its not about being persuasive , building bridges; but about feeling progressive, superior, chosen.

” it seemed they were making a mockery of traditional xmas carols.”

I don’t want to shock you, “bilal a” but in the US, lot’s of people, of all religions, parody traditional xmas tunes. Advertisements use them, flog every word of them, mercilessly, in hopes of making sales, and creating the ‘magic of Christmas’ in the stores.
And, although it shames me deeply, (as it should any right-thinking, decent-minded, rate-paying citizen) to admit it, “traditional xmas carols” are often played as jazz.

        @mrw

“30 million civilians” did not give “up their lives” for anything having to do with the slaughter of Jews in the Nazi and only a complete fool , true ignoramus and bigot would believe otherwise. The camps were ‘liberated’ because the war was over or winding down, not due to any concern by Russian, Brit or US military/political command.

“30 million civilians” did not give “up their lives” for anything having to do with the slaughter of Jews”

The Nazis hated everyone. It is true that Britain, France, and all the other countries allied against the Nazis, went to war for primarily other reasons. But they still gave up their lives – in millions – to defeat that hateful ideology. Your comment belittles their sacrifice. Shame on you.

      • Mooser on December 22, 2014, 7:57 pm

I’m sorry DaBakr, but there was a little contrempts called World War 2 going on at the time. What makes you so sure it was an obligation of the Allies to do something about the Jewish Holocaust? Any effort which could be spared from Europe could be used in the Pacific theatre.

Didn’t the Zionists sign the Transfer Agreement with Hitler, which sent 60,000 selected German Jews to Palestine, and by so doing ended the boycott of Germany?

msg to so-called ‘human rights activists’ and their fans here on MW:

it is so obvious that Boteach is aware he was being taped and is making a mocking gesture and facetious comment about it. He is looking at the camera from frame one and doesn’;t seem to be anything but amused.
There was nothing particularly nasty or tense about this particular pro-Israel human rights group vs. anti-Israel human rights group demonstration. As much as PW tries to spin it-it winds up right where it started-

    • annie on December 21, 2014, 3:46 pm

hmm, i disagree dakr. i think what’s likely is that shmuley showed up with the intention of creating material for writing a hit piece against the activists and the bds movement. he probably already had his headline planned out, a fear mongering ‘boycotting jewish businesses’ type smear. the activists were out there the week before and i don’t think he just happened to walk by.

then, what seems clear from the video is the activists just kept right on chanting and singing however he claimed they responded w/ FU! he also lied about his quote. he also claimed the protest was against “ordinary jews”.

and there is something nasty about making claims against the adalah protestors of which no evidence exists.

      • Blownaway on December 22, 2014, 12:47 am

Your exactly right, he wrote his article in The Times of Israel with plenty of embellishment and spin. He wasn’t the raging lunatic but an aggrieved fighter for democracy and against anti Semites who randomly protest agains Jews. like there were no cameras

      • Blownaway on December 22, 2014, 1:10 am

PS what he failed to do I. His column is explain that they weren’t prtesting because Leviev is Jewish but because he bankrolls settlements…not a word about that

    – over 60 years of theft, occupation and colonization of Palestinian land and oppression, torture and murder of Palestinians.

no it wasn’t. while there was a terrorist element( and any one who thinks taring and feather incidents don’t constitute terrorism don’t really get what terrorism is) most of the work was done out side of terrorist element so saying it was founded by terrorists in my opinion is false. Israel terrorist and there supports were a major percentage of their population and than went ahead and elected those terrorists to office. Israel is the only state founded by terrorist.

He is more like a Zionist Rabbi operating in America. He is such a despicable man, and a disgrace to his religion. He is the Judaism version of a radical Imam, inciting and trying to cause trouble for all. Boteach: “Sure I love promoting God and Judaism, but let’s call a spade a spade — the main reason I’m on TV is because I want to be a celebrity,” says the 32-year-old rabbi, peering up from behind his wire-rim glasses. There is nothing wrong with such ambitions, he says, as long as they’re connected to a greater good.”

Quoting Shmuley as saying “Down with the Palestinians” is intellectually dishonest of the Adalah article’s author. Shmuley is a despicable person with a lot of hate in his heart, but no, he wasn’t chanting “Down with the Palestinians” in the street. He quite clearly cut himself off mid sentence. Attributing that quote to him actually amounts to a smear, in my book. Why resort to those tactics?

      • Shingo on December 22, 2014, 2:26 pm

no, he wasn’t chanting “Down with the Palestinians” in the street. He quite clearly cut himself off mid sentence.

Why would he have cut himself off if he wasn’t ashamed of what he was in the middle of saying?

Seems you are scraping the barrel for no reason.

I heard “Down with the Palestinian- “, so I’m guessing he was going to say “Down with the Palestinian people” or “Down with the Palestinian state”. Which sounds about right for a hateful and immoral Zio-supremacist.

      • Diamond on December 22, 2014, 6:50 pm

        Straight from the horse’s mouth:
        (link: http://blogs.timesofisrael.com/the-coming-boycott-of-jewish-businesses/)

“I started saying “Down with Hamas which allows honor killings of innocent Palestinian women. Down with Hamas that slaughters innocent Palestinian gay men. Down with the Palestinian…. ” and I was about to say “… Authority for refusing to go to elections in 10 years and creating a dictatorship, robbing the Palestinian people of their freedom” when I saw that someone was filming me on the Sabbath.”

Rabbi shmuley is awful but he’s a celebrity, and he’s clearly not actually out in the street saying ‘Down with (an entire nation of people)’, even if he might deep down wish it. This is the tiniest, most insignificant concession imaginable. Shmuley’s actual quotes are more than incriminating enough, don’t smear him with what you’re all smart enough to know are misquotes.

      • Shingo on December 22, 2014, 10:39 pm

        Straight from the horse’s mouth

More like a horse that got caught during a rush of blood to his racist head and ran away to save his skin.

His claim that he stopped shorting of venting whatever was on his mind because it suddenly dawned on him it was the Sabbath only because there were video cameras rolling is beyond pathetic.

So we’re in agreement he wants to preserve his celebrity status, which he’s trying to save after the fact – as opposed to considering his words at the time.

        to

He smeared himself and whether he was being misquoted is irrelevant.

Well, if he says that that’s what he was going to say, that’s what he was going to say.

But why did he stop? Because he was being filmed? That doesn’t make sense. Aside from the fact that he stared straight at the camera (which appears to be almost at eye level) a couple of times while standing directly in front of it, once he stepped away from it and continued to speak he suddenly had no further concerns about being filmed.

Is being filmed on the Sabbath okay if you’re more than a few feet away from the camera?
