Eid in the rubble

When Nidal Alareer, a 40-year-old father of five, returned to Shujaiya after Israel’s 51-day war on Gaza, he found all three of his houses destroyed. Though promises of reconstruction have proven to be hollow, his family was able to obtain materials to rebuild their home from the Qatari government. But the labor is back-breaking and until he and his young sons finish reconstruction, his family is scattered about Gaza with no money to rent apartments.

I spoke with Alareer as he worked on his house during Eid al-Adha.

Dan and Nidal~ thank you.

I pray that tomorrow is a better day for the beautiful people of Palestine…

I also pray for better and joyous and safer and liberated future Eid Al-Fitr(s) and Eid Al-Adha(s) than the Eids these last 7 decades. I wish for every day to be filled with peace and justice and a return of their lands and their resources.

Resilience, one of the things I most admire about Palestinians. This cyclical destruction would kill a lesser man’s spirit. These people really deserve the world’s help; God knows they earned it!

Zionism is stone cold. It’s so backward, inhumane and delusional. It’s only a question of time. Nothing this flawed can be sustained no matter how much cash is thrown at it; so it too shall pass. As I stated in the past, one day a more evolved people will look at Zionism as yet another ugly stain in the history of mankind and they won’t be silenced by the Zionist machine.

Thank you for this story. We need more reminders as to what is going on in Gaza. The reality of the Gazans, spoken by this man who has a family he is trying to bring together …again through incredible odds……. I can’t even imagine.
Dan please update us. Nidal, although we cannot come with our hands at this time to work along side you, please please know there are millions who are furious you have to endure this inhuman treatment Everyday, more people are waking up to bring about the end to these outrageous policies of your occupier. I just wish it could end now.
