There were over 130 Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians during the first week of October

on 16 Comments

Although settler violence has been getting more media attention since the firebombing that killed three Palestinians this summer, the true scale of the violence is still under-reported. In fact, there have been more than 130 Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians in the last week, according to the PLO’s Negotiations Affairs Department.

Here is a timeline of those attacks (documentation here). This violence coincides with the murder of an Israeli settler couple on October 1 and tension over the al-Aqsa compound in Jerusalem.

To put this spike in violence in perspective, here is a chart produced by the PLO’s Negotiations Affairs Department showing Israeli settler attacks by month.

Each serious phase in the Israel-Palestine conflict has its own particular characteristics, which is the nature of the Palestinian attempt and that of the Israeli response. Just about anything was already tried by the Palestinians (or Arab countries around) – wars with armies, terror, economic embargo, missiles, kidnapping and so on – but then there is always a new way that give rise to with a new hope in the Palestinian side.
The present one is the low-tech level of stabbing or stones/Molotov-cocktail throwing done in an unorganized way. It means that all the heavy weaponry that Israel possesses, the sophisticated surveillance of Palestinian organized groups and the control of arms are of no use – whence the new hope. However, a new way gives rise to a new mode of response. And that`s exactly what is being reported here – namely, the settlers now respond directly. While until now it was always (apart from marginal exceptions) Israeli forces countering threats (and people) now it is people reacting on their own against people from the other side.
If the troubles persist – which is not clear because the Palestinian leadership sees the dangers and is also aware of what goes on in the region (so don`t want to rock a relatively calm boat) – this will be the first time when the conflict will get reshaped into this new mode: people vs. people – a more symmetric kind of warfare.

      @ ivri
“Each serious phase in the Israel-Palestine conflict has its own particular characteristics, which is the nature of the Palestinian attempt and that of the Israeli response. “

Fact is the Zionist Federation hasn’t stopped colonizing Palestine since 1897. It’s the Palestinian response to over a hundred years of being usurped by foreigners.

The rest of your rant is typical ziodrivel

Correct Talknic….I just took a look at Ynet and a couple of Jewish Journalists were writing an article about alternatives Netanyahu could have taken instead of what he has under his leadership term. They spoke of seriously engaging in peace talks and resolving all issues and having two states for two people. The responses at the bottom of the article were ghoulish and aggressive and Palestinians were spoken of as dogs and lesser beings. I guess it showed that peace….unless it is imposed on Israel will never happen because Netanyahu has turned it over to the Jewish Terrorists like Lehava et al. Netanyahu has ensured Two States or any peace deal will never happen unless imposed.

That’s a wonderful fairy story, Ivri. No mention of the Zionist terrorism against the Palestinians and British to create the Israeli state. No mention of the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians driven out of the country to languish in refugee camps so that Israeli Jews could steal their land and homes. No mention of Israeli conquest to enlarge the state far beyond the boundaries proposed in the failed UN partition proposal. No mention of the shoot on sight policy adopted against refugees attempting to return. No mention of the wars unleashed by Israel on its neighbours, especially in 1956. 1967, 2006 etc. No mention of the death-toll of Palestinians when many times exceeds that of Israelis during all phases of the conflict. No mention of the strenuous efforts by Zionism to embargo Palestinian labour by the concept of “Hebrew Labour”. No mention of the missiles so regular rained down on Gaza from advanced aircraft. No mention of the far more numerous Israeli kidnappings of Palestinians to be taken, contrary to international law, to Israeli jails. No mention that the few Palestinian kidnap attempts have been directed chiefly at adult soldiers, whilst Israel regular kidnaps school children. No mention of the constant efforts of Israeli extremists to sabotage efforts at peace and reconciliation.

Why do you feign surprise that Palestinians react, sometimes with haphazard violence, to an ongoing and brutal occupation, that entails checkpoints and pass laws, walls that steal land, random shooting of demonstrators, assassinations of political leaders, mass internment, torture, house demolitions, illegal settlements, the relentless theft of land and water and all the other crimes so clearly documented on this site?

And as Ali Abunimah, Art Gish and so many others have pointed out over the decades…Palestinians punished for violence and non violence…not the case for violent settlers or brutal IDF. Just not the case.

We can always be sure Rachel Maddow and her ilk will not be reporting about these issues

      Thanks Adam

Barbara Erickson , in her TimesWarp post today decrying the NYT ‘s one sided focus on Israeli casualties, included the below astounding and awful figures (taken from a UN report ):

“Nowhere [in a NYT report] do we learn that the major victims of violence in this turbulent conflict are Palestinians, not Israelis, as revealed in a recent United Nations report: In one week, ending Oct. 5, Israeli security forces injured 794 Palestinians, while Palestinians injured a total of seven Israelis. (As of Oct. 5, 30 Palestinians had been killed in 2015 compared with eight Israelis.)”

This is what genocide looks like.

  5. DaBakr on October 9, 2015, 9:51 am

oh my…the hysterical ‘:genocide” chestnut. again. growing population. growing influence. more monies coming in (at least to the so-called ‘leaders’-billionaires/millionaires Abbas and PA, PLO and Hamas officials. Palestinians all over the world legally (and mostly in Israel) attending schools, working, protesting. this is really what the author, MW and their true-believing flock believe is the face of “genocide”.

last week there were at least 122 ‘attacks’ by Palestinians against Jewish Israelis with rocks, slings, cinder blocks, knives, guns and more. It was probably more like 144 but why quibble when only one side matters here and everything is cut and dry-as if it were actual.

either the author is outright and baldfaced lying, is using the most horrendously bigoted, twisted and ignorant definition of ‘genocide’ , is deluded past the point of rationality -or- the Israelis are the absolute worst practitioners of ‘genocide’ in all history.

Al Jazeera America reporting that 6 Palestinians have been killed by the IDF.

Must be hard work fighting stone throwing kids with one of these weapons:

    Dror light machine gun
    IMI Negev light machine gun
    Uzi submachine gun
    Uzi pistol
    Desert Eagle pistol
    Jericho 941 pistol
    BUL M-5 pistol
    BUL Storm pistol
    SP-21 Barak pistol
    IMI Galil assault rifle
    IMI Tavor assault rifle
    M89SR sniper rifle
    Hezi SM-1 semi-automatic PDW

Time these young people were armed so that they have some chance of defending themselves.

The only two nations likely to come to Palestines aid is Russia and Iran. Netanyahu will have no show of talking his way out of that problem.

      • Kay24 on October 13, 2015, 8:30 am

At this point I really don’t know. It seems the Arab nations have their own agendas and do not give a damn, and the US keeps supporting the oppressor. The other nations seem intimidated by the US, and dare not go against it when it comes to Israel.

So who genuinely cares about giving the Palestinians their rights and freedom?
