Finally, you can let everyone know you are a Mondoweiss reader no matter where you go!

Many people are excited about the 100% cotton shirt celebrating the BDS movement designed by Mondoweiss illustrator Katie Miranda–it has different cartoons on the front and back, and is available in white or charcoal gray.

Those who prefer a more subtle expression of their values are showing off the simple navy shirt featuring the Mondoweiss logo, web address and tagline “News & Opinion About Palestine, Israel & the United States.” This one is a slightly lighter cloth, 50-50 poly/cotton, and the women’s sizes are cut with a slightly tapered waist, shaped sleeves and overall a style often described as “feminine.” If you prefer a more standard T-shirt style, simply order the men’s shirt.

Get your t-shirt now! Pre-sales at recent conferences were brisk, and we have a limited inventory – so order soon to be sure you’ll get yours without having to wait for us to restock.

The new Mondoweiss BDS t-shirt, front and back, modeled by Nadya Raja Tannous, Mondoweiss contributor and Education and Advocacy Coordinator at Interfaith Peace Builders

Whichever shirt you choose, you will be letting people know you support the movement for Palestinian rights and appreciate news and analysis unavailable through the mainstream media. And you’ll have the chance to tell them why, when they ask about your striking fashion sense!

I have two old blue ones. Since I got them, years ago, only one person ever asked me about them–a cashier at Winn-Dixie. These new ones certainly are more striking; I’m sure anyone wearing one will get more comments, hence more dialogue. But I think I am too old to wear one of the new ones–I don’t wear consumer branding clothing generally; my old Mondoweiss blue T shirts are the sole exception. How do others here feel about this? Just curious.

Now you’re asking, I simply can’t see the point of a shirt saying something as esoteric as “Mondoweiss”. One in 5,682 may associate it with something like Mondo cane or Mondo pazzo, and what connotations “Weiss” will ring a bell for I dare not imagine. Schneeweiss? Edelweiss? Weisswurst?

As for B.D.S., it still doesn’t mean much by itself. “Boycott Israel!” is (almost) clear to many. Divestment and sanctions, not so much: even if we all understood, most individuals cannot divest or sanction directly. Initialisms only work for the initiated –don’t imagine so many people understand any outside their own restricted experience. The shared ones include US, USA, IOU, IRS and not many more. More legible, large characters would be easier to read, with or without drawings.

        “Schneeweiss? Edelweiss? Weisswurst?”

Hmmm… ‘Mondoweiss, Mondoweiss, every morning you greet me?’

      • annie on April 20, 2017, 3:33 pm

i like the “BDS” prominently displayed, plus people who don’t know what it means will ask and learn something. and i love the “free palestine”.

and what gorgeous models! shelly and nadya are wonderful people and i am sure jamal (shelly’s partner) is too although i have yet to meet him.

and i always love katie’s art. these t-shirts are real winners as far as i am concerned.

      • RoHa on April 20, 2017, 8:22 pm

Thanks, Mooser. Now I’m going to have that stupid song running through my mind all day.

      • echinococcus on April 20, 2017, 8:36 pm

Even if it were possible, turning around 180 degrees the big ship USA against the will of its owners will take a major mobilization of the general American population.
Not a couple liberaloids, selectively of the tribal variety.

And no, people don’t just run around trying to find the explanation to all acronyms and initialisms they happen to see. They have to know who is what and what to do. Like Boycott Israel.

      • Mooser on April 20, 2017, 10:34 pm

“Now I’m going to have that stupid song running through my mind all day.”

A man who thinks “Edelweiss” is a “stupid song” probably despises raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens.
Worse yet, he would vociferously deprecate bright copper kettles and scoff at warm woolen mittens. Or insist brown-paper packages tied up with string be opened for postal inspection,
and fail to be moved by wild geese in flight with the moon on their wings.

Well, “RoHa” when the dog, dingo, crocodile, box jellyfish, coastal taipan or Eastern brown snake bites, or the funnel-web spider, redback spider, paralysis tick, bull ant, giant centipede, mosquito, European wasp, flies, white-tiled spider, or indeed a bee stings, you’ll be outa luck.
I am ordering the “Mondoweiss Logo T-shirt” which provides a certain amount of protection against those hazards.

      • RoHa on April 21, 2017, 2:32 am

You are trying to lure me with sounds of music, sweet airs that give delight and hurt not, aren’t you? Just so that I will have more of that tripe torturing me.

Well, I’m not so easily trapped. Its a long, long way to run, but I’m prepared to climb mountains and ford streams to escape.

And, as for the t-shirts, while I approve of the principle, I’m no longer sixteen, going on seventeen, so I don’t fancy pictures of angry people on my stomach. Besides, I’m short of dough, so for me they are a bit dear.

        || RoHa: … And, as for the t-shirts, while I approve of the principle, I’m no longer sixteen, going on seventeen, so I don’t fancy pictures of angry people on my stomach. … ||

I like the idea of the BDS shirt and the colourfulness of the images, but IMO the angry faces undermine the message. So I ordered a MW logo t-shirt instead. (Sorry, Katie!)

        || … Besides, I’m short of dough, so for me they are a bit dear. ||

Let me be your ray – a drop of golden sun – and buy you a MW logo t-shirt. :-)

“Let me be your ray – a drop of golden sun – and buy you a MW logo t-shirt.”eljay

It seems , that somewhere in his youth or childhood , Roha must have done something good.

      • Mooser on April 21, 2017, 12:28 pm

“Well, I’m not so easily trapped.”

Don’t be so sure. Every one of those biters and stingers came from the “10 most dangerous biters and stingers in Australia” list. Said the hills down there are alive with the damn things.

Or are they just a few of your favorite things?

      • RoHa on April 21, 2017, 8:32 pm

Amigo, strange things happened in those far off days.

      • RoHa on April 21, 2017, 9:28 pm

Thank you for your generous offer, eljay. However, I shall take the word for the deed.

But what do we do with a problem like Mooser? He drags up these dreadful show tunes, and then everyone wants to get into the act. Even amigo.

      • RoHa on April 21, 2017, 9:36 pm

No mention of the blue ring octopus, the stone fish, or the cone shell. (It’s a seagoing snail. And it can kill you.) Hell, even a male platypus can give you a rough time with the venom from its spurs.

Australian wildlife is God’s last message to humanity. “I hate you all, and I want you to die in agony.”

But all of us here, even the lonely goatherd high on the hill, have confidence in confidence that we can avoid most of these beasties.

      • Mooser on April 22, 2017, 11:18 am

        “No mention of…”

I could have covered the entire page with ‘biters’ and stingers’ from the Antipodes. They were a few of those terrible things.

      • Mooser on April 23, 2017, 1:11 pm

“But what do we do with a problem like Mooser? He drags up these dreadful show tunes, and then everyone wants to get into the act.”

How do you take a clod and pin it down? You fear it must be said; Mooser’s not an asset to the abbey.

Well, I’d like to say a word in his behalf…

    • Katie Miranda on April 20, 2017, 4:00 pm

I admit I am biased when it comes to these t-shirts, but when people tell me I’m too old for something, I immediately know I have to do it. Like running a marathon which I plan to do in August. :)

      • RoHa on April 21, 2017, 8:29 pm

The problem is that, when a seventeen-year-old tells me that I am too old, it means that I can’t do it. Not with her, anyway.

I guess nobody gives a shit.

    • annie on April 20, 2017, 3:30 pm

i give a shit, i think they are gorgeous! i would wear one in a heartbeat.

  3. Clif Brown on April 19, 2017, 9:31 pm

Being an old geezer, I tuck my T shirt in. With this design, if tucked in the only thing visible is BDS at my tummy level. Oh, ok, I suppose I can leave it untucked. More important, I see no link to place an order either here on the site on in the email notification I received.

    • talknic on April 20, 2017, 2:57 am

Get some platform shoes, that’ll put it up higher … no that doesn’t make sense … wait ….

      I got it … STILTS! … and stand in a hole … ?

    • talknic on April 22, 2017, 9:23 pm

      I GOT IT! Yessss!!!

Order one that’s two or three sizes too small!

I give a shit, but figure it’s worth leaving my principles at the door for this t-shirt.

    Click on «Add to cart».
    All will be revealed.

    • Clif Brown on April 20, 2017, 3:30 pm

Add to cart….looking for it all over the page and in the text…all I see is “order it now” in bold and that isn’t a link… yes, I was in mostly remedial classes, I admit, but…

      • Generalist on April 24, 2017, 9:13 pm

Clif, I think you haven’t scrolled down into the part of the page that has the images of t-shirts and drop-downs to select size and color. It’s below the article, and above the comments. Once you select a color and size, you can click on “Add to Cart” (orange button) and it will take you to a page to pay.

but Muslims have to be careful what we wear, the world is blurred a black Caribbean Muslim called Rory Macleod is sponsored by ISIS, we have to watch what we wear.

  6. JLewisDickerson on October 14, 2017, 11:07 am

Some quite provocative t-shirts, but . . . I’m afraid those agitators at the bottom making a fist, giving the peace sign, etc. might be considered RADICALS, and I certainly wouldn’t want to be seen as the type of person who trucks with RADICALS! Certainly not during the Age of Trump, when you really don’t have a clue, from one day to the next, as to what he might be in a rage about. I mean really, I’d rather have taken my chances with Henry VIII. Of course, I wouldn’t recommend that for a woman. And I would want to keep a safe distance from the Lord Protector who banished my ancestor to Barbados, even though I really try not to hold grudges.

    • JLewisDickerson on October 15, 2017, 6:17 pm

I remember back in the 90s when “Heroin Chic” became all the rage, so I might try going for a “Radical Chic” look.

  7. Rob Roy on July 5, 2018, 10:24 pm

I love the Tee shirts and am buying one for my daughter. I like the people in the illustration. If people aren’t angry at Israelis murdering Palestinians and stealing all their land by leaps and bounds, starving them, giving them contaminated water, cutting electricity, taking all human rights away, and keeping them in prison, they haven’t been paying attention. Why should the people being pictured be making the peace sign. A lot of good that would do. Only hard anger and fighting back will inch us along.

Suggestion: next time anyone designs a political tee shirt, for god’s sake, make the women’s
VEE NECK !!!!!! …my daughter says.

    Thanks. R

  8. Bennorius on November 13, 2018, 9:49 am

Like you, Rob Roy, I love the BDS T shirt. I am buying one for myself and one for my daughter or son to wear on the right occasion. I am a 66 year old geezer now, but have not lost the motivation to wear T-shirts with a political message, particularly one that says BDS at the front and Free Palestine at the back.
I actually love the images of YOUNG people protesting. You can see they are passionate and I really love that. They don’t look intimidating at all. The BDS and Palestine solidarity movement have a lot of young people and they are the future. I am very happy as a 66 year old semi-retired doctor to join young people in support of Palestine and Mondoweiss.

There is one possible drawback here. I live in the UK and when I recently purchased two Mondoweiss Calendars 2019, the post office would not release them until I had paid import duties amounting to 50 US dollars for two calendars. These two calendars, although they are very beautiful and informative – turned out to be the most expensive calendars I ever purchased. I hope that the same is not going to happen with the T-shirts I am ordering now. I would not mind donating that tax to Mondoweiss and I do not mind paying taxes provided it goes to services underpinning a good welfare state. But in this case I thought it was over the top.
