This morning President Donald Trump was on Fox News speaking to Maria Bartiromo about the details surrounding the strike he ordered last week on a northern Syrian airbase in response to a suspected chemical attack on civilians that killed at least 100. The launch of 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles was ordered just after dessert, between bites of “the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake,” Trump said, of his after-dinner treat.

Those strikes killed nine civilians, according to a Syrian news agency, four of them children.
This is not the first time. In February Trump also ordered military action during dinner— in that case, a covert operation in Yemen that killed several civilians, “including some children,” one of them 8-year old Nawar Anwar Al-Awlaki, a Yemeni-American (as well as resulting in the death of Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens). From the Times:
Just five days after taking office, over dinner with his newly installed secretary of defense and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, President Trump was presented with the first of what will be many life-or-death decisions…
With two of his closest advisers, Jared Kushner and Stephen K. Bannon, joining the dinner at the White House along with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., Mr. Trump approved sending in the Navy’s SEAL Team 6…
Vice President Mike Pence and Michael T. Flynn, the national security adviser, also attended the dinner.
P.S. In the interview with Fox, Trump made a gaffe and said he bombed Iraq instead of Syria. “We’ve just launched 59 missiles heading to Iraq,” he told Bartiromo, who corrected,”heading to Syria.”
