Biden fundraiser Haim Saban repeatedly praises ‘Jared’

If you want to know why Joe Biden can’t say a word critical of Israel, reflect that Haim Saban, who is one of Joe Biden’s biggest fundraisers and donors, raising $4.5 million for him two weeks ago, has said, “I’m a one-issue guy and my issue is Israel.”

And Saban is supportive of Trump policy in the Middle East.

Saban was at the White House on Sept. 15 for the announcement of the UAE-Bahrain-Israel normalization deals that are featured at the top of the White House website.

And Saban repeatedly praised Jared Kushner today on a Jewish Insider conference call about the UAE deal. Saban said:

I would be remiss if I didnt mention four names of the people who are responsible… First of all MBZ, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, took courage. Second Sheik Abdullah [bin Zayed, UAE foreign minister]. Third Jared. Fourth [ambassador] Yousef al-Oteiba. And five, I said four, it’s five, Yossi Cohen the head of the Mossad. To me, knowing the little that I know, that’s my perception, that these people are the people who brought it all together. And people need to recognize that, that these are the people with courage and the strong desire for peace who found the formula to bring the two countries together and should be commended for it.

Saban praised “Jared” again in extolling the Trump peace plan, which even liberal Zionist organizations call a “peace sham“. Saban:

I’ve always been a proponent and a supporter of finding a solution for the Palestinians to have their own coutnry. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. This is a difficult one, this is really a very complicated one where a lot of smart people for decades have worked at trying to find a solution and have failed, which is why I came out in support of the Trump peace plan. Because I thought, you know what– it’s outside of the box. I should say, ‘The Jared peace plan.’ But anyway– it’s out of the box, it’s very different than everything that was done before. And you can’t keep on trying to do the same thing and expect a different result.

With that plan, with the Jared Plan, It became something that maybe has a shot. Maybe has a shot. But whether Abu Mazen gathers the courage to move forward and sit at the table or whether his successor has the courage, one thing that is missing is educating the Palestinian people for peace.

Saban went on to criticize the “scary” Palestinian media for praising intifadas and resistance to Israel, and recalled advising John Kerry to press this issue during his negotiations in 2014. Kerry said, “That’s the first thing I’m going to do,” Saban related.

Saban’s openness to the Trump policy is a good reminder that many Democratic supporters of Israel are warmed by Trump’s actions, and Trump has been trying to win them over by saying that the Democratic Party will betray Israel. I don’t think Trump will succeed. He is only polling at about 30 percent among Jewish voters, with Biden maintaining a traditional Democratic advantage. But Biden will take no risks when it comes to one of his biggest donors, who is surely not alone among older pro-Israel Americans.

The difference between Republicans and Democrats on Israel is the same as the difference between Sheldon Adelson and Haim Saban: Nothing

Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Nov. 9/14

EXCERPT:
WASHINGTON (JTA) — “Haim Saban, a top Democratic Party donor and backer of Hillary Rodham Clinton, slammed President Obama’s Iran strategy and advised Israel to bomb the ‘living daylights’ out of Iran if a nuclear deal with the major powers endangers Israel.

“If Obama strikes a ‘bad deal’ with Iran in nuclear talks under way and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assesses it as a deal that would put Israel at risk, ‘I would bomb the living daylights out of these sons of bitches,’ Saban said Sunday at the first conference of the Israeli American Council, an advocacy group he is helping to fund.”

“Sudan rejects linking removal from US terrorism list with Israel”Al Jazeera, Sept. 26/20

“Sources say US officials indicated they wanted Khartoum to open ties with Israel, following in the UAE and Bahrain’s steps.”

EXCERPT:
“Sudan does not want to link its removal from a US ‘terrorism list”’ that is hindering access to foreign funding for the country’s economy with the normalization of relations with Israel, Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok said on Saturday.

“Sources said this week that US officials indicated in talks with a Sudanese delegation they wanted Khartoum to follow the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain and open ties with Israel.

“Sudan’s designation as a ‘state sponsor of terrorism’ dates back to its toppled ruler Omar al-Bashir, and makes it difficult for its new transitional government to access urgently needed debt relief and foreign financing.

“Hamdok said Sudan had told US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during a visit last month it was necessary to separate the removal from the US list from the normalization of relations with Israel.”

“Qatar’s leader says Israel continues to carry out ‘flagrant violation of international resolutions’.”
EXCERPT:

“Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has questioned the credibility of the international community as it ‘stands by, unable to take any effective action to confront Israeli intransigence and its continued occupation of Palestinian and Arab land’.

“In his video speech at the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the emir questioned the role of countries and organizations for failing to uphold the resolutions against the continued Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and its expansion of settlement building.

“He accused Israel of carrying out ‘flagrant violation of international resolutions and the two-state solution as agreed upon by the international community’. (cont’d)

“‘The international community stands by, unable to take any effective action to confront Israeli intransigence, its continued occupation of Palestinian & Arab land, the imposition of a stifling siege on the Gaza Strip, [and] the expanding settlement policy, among others,’ he said.

“‘Peace can only be achieved when Israel fully commits to the international terms of reference and resolutions that are accepted by the Arab countries and upon which the Arab Peace Initiative is based.’

“The Arab Peace Initiative was a plan put forth by Saudi Arabia in 2002 that called for normalizing relations with Israel in exchange for an end to its occupation of Palestinian territories, the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders & with East Jerusalem as its capital, as well as a just solution for Palestinian refugees.

“Qatar’s ruler said Israel is trying to ‘circumvent these parameters’ & any arrangements that do not take these factors into account ‘will not achieve peace’.

“‘Failure to find a just solution to the Palestinian cause, Israel’s continued settlements, & forcing a reality on the ground without being deterred, this is what raises the biggest question about the credibility of the international community & its institutions,’ the emir added.

“He called upon the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to assume its legal responsibilities & ‘compel Israel to lift the siege on the Gaza Strip, and to put the peace process back on track through credible negotiations based on international resolutions and not on force'”.

“U.S. Seeking to Force Kenya to Oppose BDS in Return for Trade Deal.” Morning Star on Line, Sept. 27/20

“The United States is seeking to make opposition to the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement in solidarity with Palestine a condition of a free trade deal being negotiated with Kenya, The East African newspaper revealed this week.

“A commitment to ‘discourage politically motivated actions to boycott, divest from and sanction Israel’ is among US objectives in papers seen by the newspaper.

“It also seeks ‘elimination of politically motivated, non-tariff barriers on Israeli goods, services, or other commerce imposed on Israel; and the elimination of state-sponsored, unsanctioned foreign boycotts of Israel, or compliance with the Arab League Boycott of Israel.’

“These objectives sit alongside economic demands including that Kenya not levy any tax on digital products.

“The East African Tax and Governance Network and East African Trade Network, which had already objected to the free trade negotiations over the tax proposals, said the anti-BDS policy would ‘entrap’ Kenya and should be opposed.

“The BDS movement is an international campaign to boycott Israeli goods and services complicit in the illegal occupation of Palestine.”
