The tide is turning — are you on board?

There’s a shift happening.

I’ve covered U.S. politics for a decade, and what I’m seeing now is different.

Today – on Capitol Hill, on U.S. campuses, and among the public at large – candidates, movement leaders and everyday people are questioning blind support for Israel’s apartheid policies.

Mondoweiss brings you news about Palestine/Israel that other media ignore – news that helps shape attitudes among influencers, politicians and the public at large.

This is a great time to give to Mondoweiss. We’re looking for 50 new monthly donors ready to support Mondoweiss’s journalism for justice. A generous friend has joined us with this challenge: Start a new monthly donation by Oct. 1 and that friend will double your gift

As a Mondoweiss, reader, you know more people are challenging the Israel mythology they’ve been spoon fed for decades. Recent polls show a large majority of Democrats want to reduce U.S. aid to Israel because of its human rights abuses. And a University of Maryland survey showed 48 percent of Democrats familiar with the BDS movement support it.

Liberal Zionist icon Peter Beinart caused shockwaves this summer when he turned away from a two-state solution in favor of a single “bi-national” state. His op-ed in The New York Times was titled “I No Longer Believe in a Jewish State.”

Actor Seth Rogan admitted in an interview that he was “fed a huge amount of lies about Israel” as a child.

And a right-wing think tank found that up to quarter of American Jews polled agreed that “Zionism may be a colonial and/or racist, apartheid movement as practiced in Israel today.“

You read Mondoweiss, so you know these issues are no longer a third rail in U.S. politics. Reps. Betty McCollum and Ilhan Omar are fighting to end the detention of Palestinian children and protect the right to boycott. Sen. Bernie Sanders talked about Gaza during presidential primary debates.

More politicians are finding courage to support conditional military aid to Israel. Among them are Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib, who handily beat back well-funded challengers in each of their primaries. And 2021 is expected to bring a new crop of progressives to the House.

  • Black Lives Matter and BDS defender Cori Bush ousted longtime incumbent Rep. William Lacy Clay in the Democratic primary for Missouri’s 1st congressional district.
  • Israel was a hot topic in Illinois’ 3rd district primary between incumbent Dan Lipinski, one of the House’s most pro-Israel Democrats, and his prevailing challenger Marie Newman.
  • A $2 million infusion from pro-Israel PACs in New York’s 16th district failed to boost incumbent Eliot Engel to victory over middle school principal and local activist Jamaal Bowman.

You read Mondoweiss, so you know the tide is turning. We cover all of this and more, but we can’t do it without your help.

Until Oct. 1, your new monthly donation will be matched by a close friend of Mondoweiss. Please give generously now to keep the information flowing — and the tide turning.
