Why are you playing semantics with the very simple and easily understood idea that refugees have a right to return to their homes? Are you trying to question the validity of the statement by deconstructing every phrase?

If that is your goal, come out and say it! Stop pussy-footing around with B.S. like “define the terminology…” and “It’s interesting that…” and just state that you are a Zionist who believes Jews are superior to everyone else, especially the Palestinians, and that the Palestinians should have no right of return.

Do you think that your clumsy word salad is going to convince any Mondoweiss readers that they should stop supporting the Palestinians and stop condemning Israel for the illegal, immoral occupation of Palestine?

If you think any of the sincere readers and commenters here are that stupid, you haven’t been paying attention.

Nathan: “We learn in the article that “the right of return is enshrined in the United Nations Resolution 194”, and a link is kindly provided therein. It’s not too clear to me why anyone who speaks English as a native tongue would come to the conclusion that the above quote defines a right of return.”

I can’t think of a more ignorant thing to say. It is impossible for anyone who speaks the English language to NOT understand the meaning of ““the right of return is enshrined in the United Nations Resolution 194.” As Talkback mentions, it’s based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was proclaimed by the United Nations general assembly in Paris on January 10th, 1948, one day… before resolution 194 was passed. It means the Palestinians have a right of return.

And as you probably know, the Israelis never had any intention of granting the Palestinian refugees the right of return. In fact before negotiations started the Knesset passed a law that no Israeli negotiator would be allowed to even discuss the right of return for the Palestinian refugees… hence the hedge about “… be resolved in the final settlement”.

And as everyone knows by now, the Israelis never have any intention of reaching a “final settlement”…

I do so love it when some of the brilliantly informed like you, eljay, Mooser, Harry Law, RoHa, MHughes, Annie and all the rest SHRED the Hasbara trolls who dump their lies on Mondoweiss.

    • "But admit it – you guys love having a little dissent thrown in once in a while, amirite?”

Hmmm.... let me think about that for a minute….

Oh maybe it was interesting the first 200 times…interesting to see how the same lies could be expressed in so many different ways.

“There is no such thing as Palestine.”

“If there was a Palestine it was called that by mistake.”

“The land called Palestine was empty until the Jewish colonizers arrived.”

“ If there were a few Arabs in Palestine before 1920, they were just uneducated peasants.”

      “Israel made the desert bloom…”

“God promised this land to the Jews.”

“God doesn’t exist… and he promised us this land..” (that’s my personal favorite)

“The Jews of Israel are the descendants of the ancient Hebrews…( even though DNA analysis says the Palestinians are actually closer descendants of the ancient inhabitants of Palestine)…

…and then there’s the whole United Nations thing… we like this resolution but we don’t like that resolution…

..and then there’s Hamas…. If they would only say Israel has a right to exist…

…2000 Gazans killed, 400 of them children… oh but Israel has a right to defend itself

65 more Gazans killed by Israel snipers, some of them medics, women, children, journalists… but they got too close to the wall (which is on Gaza’s land….)

League of Nations…the Oslo accords….Israel was attacked in 1948 and 1967…Jews were thrown out of Iraq…the Ottoman empire… Palestinians are terrorists but not Israelis….It’s all the fault of the government of Gaza….tunnels… Blah, blah blah.

      We have heard it all.

Since you are supposedly new to Mondoweiss I’m going to let you in on a little secret.

All of the crap that you are trying to foist off on us in your screed has been offered up and debunked dozens of times on these pages. None of the lies and Zionist talking points that you are presenting are new. Your penchant for answering questions with another question is a lame rhetorical game that just wastes the reader’s time.

You see, many of the people who post here regularly really care about the plight of the Palestinians and have studied the issue from every angle for years. They are true experts…lawyers, professors and other professionals who have spent years reading and researching everything to do with Palestine, the Palestinians, the law and the history of the region. And unlike you, when they present their points they site documents and references and even attach links.

Very often the comment section has as much or more real information as do the articles.
So why don’t you do us a favor and take your Zionist message and your Hasbara trolling someplace else. We have seen it all before….

    • Jackdaw

Did you take time out from killing women and children in Gaza to share a few words with us here at Mondoweiss?

      How very generous of you......

  • Israeli army says the killing of Palestinian medic Razan al-Najjar was 'just an accident'
    • I have a five-part solution to this problem:

      1. The US must stop all aid to Israel

      2. Instead, the US should give the Palestinians 4 billion dollars every year.

      3. The US Navy should send an attack fleet into the Mediterranean and break the Gaza blockade and “accidently” drop a few missiles on all of the illegal settlements and the Israeli nuclear facilities… and maybe a couple on Tel Aviv for good measure. They would also send bombers and fighter jets to destroy the Israeli air force and navy.

      4. The Army Corp of Engineers should rebuild the airports, power stations and water treatment facilities in Palestine

      5. US Marines should arrest Netanyahu and take him to Guantanamo as a war criminal. His military tribunal would be scheduled for 2030…

Would he still be considered a martyr if he was convicted and hung?

    • Would it be bad to wish that Lieberman's forehead encounters 3.5 grams of hot lead travelling at 3,240 feet per second during his US visit?

After all, that is what he has been giving unarmed Palestinian children and reporters in Gaza...

      April 23, 2018,

Thanks you for all the great information that you bring to bare here.

You are one of the reasons that I read Mondoweiss every day.

  • In the occupation, slapping a soldier is worse than killing a Palestinian
    • ...and the Zionists wonder why the latest generation of American Jews don't want anything to do with Israel...

You would think they could figure it out....

  • Landmark 'NYT' op-ed by Jewish official blames Israel's leadership for its isolation (not BDS)
  • There are only two kinds of Jews, Schumers and Feinsteins
    • Come on Phil... you know there are more than two types of Jews:

"It occurred to me that some sort of a list would be helpful. A Jew Type List. Something to help both Nazis and Jews hone their accusations a bit more pointedly. Specificity is so important in these matters, or we’ll never know who exactly we’re feeling superior to. And so I turned, as I often do, to books. Literature provided me with some Jew types, but not all. Film provided a few more, and TV filled in the blanks."

  • Israeli diplomat calls on American students 'to restore the honor' of vilified word-- Zionism
  • Wilkerson says 'Israel's security' was motive for Iraq war-- though not in NYT op-ed
    • Wilkerson isn't changing his story. I don't know how you can say that.

Sharon pointed out to Bush the obvious: If Saddam was gone the biggest counterweight to Iran would be gone. The implication being, if you take out Saddam, then you must then deal with Iran.

Wilkerson never denied that Sharon said that. He did say that the Israel lobby in the US supported the invasion of Iraq which is well documented.

This is a good, well written article, as is the NYT article... It's your comment that is BS.

  • There are two narratives, but one reality: Palestinian dispossession
    • You are too funny.

      I think I love you....

    • Boris:

      I'm here to help.

Here are the 3 characteristics that help identify Jews:

Number one: The Great Jewish Love Affair With Shellfish – what is a more common scene than seeing a hungry Jew wolf down a plate of moules frites? Why are Jews so expertly capable of squeezing just the right amount of mayonnaise onto their scampi? Why is it that there are always such great deals in the Waitrose, in Temple Fortune, on the “Frozen Scallops with Herby Garlic Butter”?

Number two: The Jewess’s Revelation at the Benefits of the Foreskin – There is the necessary shock experience for the Jewess (and in some cases the male Jew) of the first exposure to the foreskin which, when growing up a in strictly snipped environment, is quite an eye-opener!

Number Three: Creative Expressions and Outpourings of Satirical Comment, Criticism and Top of the Range Piss-Taking with regards to Establishment Predictability and Mundanity – From the Talmud, (or was it the mad Communist Great Uncle we all had, but never knew?), we learn that sophistry and satire are intrinsic to the Jewish neshama (soul).

  • Fearing breakup of Israel lobby, liberal Zionists stress the power of Jewish unity
    • I’m sure it’s a result of my average intelligence and a lack of sophistication but try as I might, I just don’t understand this sentiment:

“People don’t like talking about Jewish power out loud because, despite good intentions, it either sounds anti-Semitic itself or gives fodder for anti-Semites. But Jewish power in America has been essential to Jewish thriving in America, and it has required instruments of solidarity — and specifically, the technique of presenting to the rest of the world an image, even if a facade, of communal unity."

“People don’t like talking about Jewish power out loud…” Well now, I guess they don’t like talking about Catholic power or Christian power or Atheist power because I never hear those terms either. I must admit I don’t like the sound of any of those ideas because it begs the question, Why do Jews or people of any other religion in the US need “power”? What kind of power? Power over whom? Is there a zero sum religion based struggle afoot that I have been unaware of?

“But Jewish power in America has been essential to Jewish thriving in America, and it has required instruments of solidarity — and specifically, the technique of presenting to the rest of the world an image, even if a facade, of communal unity.” Really? Jewish power is necessary in order for Jews to thrive in the US? So Jews must stick together to make sure that they hold a supremacist position? They can’t just work hard and study hard and succeed based on merit? And this image or façade of communal unity is necessary because it…? Scares the non-Jews? It makes the non-Jews like the Jews better? It shows that it’s Jews first, Americans second?

  • Netanyahu has taken a wrecking ball to Israel's favorability ratings among Democrats
    • Yeah.

      I wonder why.

General Assembly resolutions condemning Israel for war crimes and crimes against humanity routinely get approved by more than 185 countries with only the US and a few sycophantic island nations voting no.

      How is that possible?

      Are Americans stupid?

Are we being manipulated by some dark entity?

Instead of the truth, are Americans being fed lies and B.S. by our media?

Who could be responsible for such a travesty?

Wouldn't it take some kind of a conspiracy to accomplish such widespread brainwashing?

If we could discover the people who have been foisting off these lies on the American people, what punishment would they deserve? Fines? Imprisonment? Death?

  • When Zionism is the essence of life, a break has huge consequences
    • I think Jonathan Ofir has written a way too elaborate excuse for people who want to believe in Zionism.

In fact it sounds more like an ode to Zionism than a break from Zionism.

"So when the break occurs, it is a break that will inevitably lead one to reconsider the totality of the indoctrination and set of values one was brought up with. One ends up having to question the nature of those values, inasmuch as they hold up such a construct – Zionism – to be the essence of life."

What? Why all the melodrama? Even a modicum of critical thinking leads one to realize that from the time we are born we are being indoctrinated to believe things that just don't stand up to scrutiny. Prayer in school, the Pledge of Allegiance , God, race, Communism, the Russian people hate us, US is the greatest country in the world, 6 million, etc., etc.

Beliefs in Religion and the necessity for Israel are some of the most intractable fantasies that even the otherwise intelligent and well read will refuse to abandon in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. But deep down they know that they are holding on to lies from which they refuse to liberate themselves.

    • "The Netanyahu government, it seems, prefers as allies Christian evangelicals and the US alt-right, which loves Israel as much as it appears to despise Jews."

An interesting thought experiment is to consider Palestine as if it were the 51st state or an unincorporated territory of the US.

Think about how we would all feel if those were Americans who live with the daily terror of being under the boot heel of Israel.

Think how much fun it would be to see the cowardly IDF if they had to face a real well-trained military bristling with modern state-of-the-art weapons… instead of women and children and teenagers wielding rocks.

How many Hellfire Missles would it take to convince settlers to stop the illegal, immoral attacks on Palestinians?

  • Israel's top diplomat spouts anti-Semitic criticism of American Jews -- 'having quite convenient lives'
    • Mooser you should write a book.

Who else can go from brilliant sarcasm to incisive commentary without missing a beat?

Thank you for always making me think...

    • Try as I might, I just can seem to understand what it is to be a Jew… or at least the Jew that Hotovely references:

“People that never send their children to fight for their country– most of the Jews don’t have children serving as soldiers, going to the Marines, going to Afghanistan, or to Iraq. Most of them are having quite convenient lives. They don’t feel how it feels to be attacked by rockets, and I think part of it is to actually experience what Israel is dealing with on a daily basis”

No one I know of makes this kind of statement about Catholics or Protestants or Jehovah Witnesses. Oh I know… “Jews are a race.” Or at least that’s what the Zionists want you to believe, ignoring the DNA evidence and the basic fact that race is a social construct and a meaningless one at that.

I’m beginning to think that Hotovely and company need this ongoing conflict with the Palestinians to continue forever because without some kind of conflict the idea of a “Jewish state” (whatever that is) begins to disappear.

She says: I think for me the only way to make sure that Jews care or have meaning is by having strong Israel and strong Jewish identity. I think unfortunately American Jews are losing it bigtime. I see the numbers, I’m in the Foreign Ministry– 80 percent of American Jews assimilate. This is something we all should be concerned in. Without Jewish identity and without connection to Israel, this amazing Jewry will be lost. I really think this is the tragedy of the Jewish world.

Are they a Jew first and a person second? Surely in her mind they must be Jews first and Americans second or third or further down the line… If a Jew is born in America do they have to assimilate to become an American? What about Chomsky and Finkelstein? Are they assimilated and therefore not real Jews?

It always amazes me when an otherwise seemingly intelligent person like Hotovely is incapable of brutally honest critical thinking because their religion has so clouded their mind they can no longer see with their own eyes…

  • Pro-Israel groups' campaign against Linda Sarsour targets another progressive institution -- New School

From Yaron London of Israel’s channel 10:

“To do the Netanyahu government justice, let me qualify my statement by saying that all forms of Zionism hold the perception that a certain extent of anti-Semitism benefits the Zionist enterprise,”

“it would be good to have some anti-Semitism in America. Not serious anti-Semitism, not pogroms, not persecutions that will empty America from its Jews, as we need them there, but just a taste of this pungent stuff, so that we can restore our faith in Zionism.”

That is why they find it under every bush, under every rock,,, everywhere. If it doesn’t exist, they have to invent it or they will become irrelevant.

  • Seven members of Jewish Voice for Peace arrested in demonstration at ADL
    • How about this for an end-of-conflict scenario:

The United Nations finally comes to the obvious conclusion that the last thing the world needs is a so called "Jewish state" and recognizes that the very idea is a racist, colonialist one that has no place in the modern world.

The United States finally stops supporting Israel in any and every way and instead gives 5 billion dollars in annual financial and military aid to the Palestinians, including nuclear weapons. In addition the US pledges unconditional support for the Palestinians including sending 500,000 troops to the area if necessary.

Israel is de-certified as a country and the entire region resumes its rightful name of Palestine.
All lands taken illegally by Israel will be returned to the original Palestinian owners. All illegal settlements in the West Bank are destroyed and the "wall" is torn down.

Palestine becomes a secular country dedicated to the absolute separation of church/synagog/mosque and state with a constitution that guarantees that all people are created equal regardless of religion, sex, sexual orientation, color, tribe, etc.

The ADL, AIPAC, CAMERA, and all other organizations that support Israel in the US are declared to be illegal and found to be enemies of the state which has been obvious for years. JVP and Jews for Justice for Palestinians are given special status to monitor the new Middle East order for the US government.

    • Phil: You don't need religion.

      From Christopher Hitchens:

"As a convinced atheist, I ought to agree with Voltaire that Judaism is not just one more religion, but in its way the root of religious evil. Without the stern, joyless rabbis and their 613 dour prohibitions, we might have avoided the whole nightmare of the Old Testament, and the brutal, crude wrenching of that into prophecy-derived Christianity, and the later plagiarism and mutation of Judaism and Christianity into the various rival forms of Islam."

Good, robust critical thinking eliminates the need for religion and at the same time takes it's place.

  • Israel lobby is never a story (for media that is in bed with the lobby)
  • Eisner and Greenblatt refuse to see Israel's face in Richard Spencer's mirror
    • So here is the hypocrisy of Israel and the Zionists on full display.

David Duke and Richard Spencer as offensive as their messages may be, have never killed anyone to my knowledge.

Bibi Natanyahu, Israel’s chief racist and Holocaust revisionist is responsible for the death of thousands of innocent Palestinians in just the past few years, many of them children.

Duke and Spencer want to preserve the “white, European, Christian legacy of the US”, and they are condemned and vilified (rightfully so) by the masses.

Netanyahu says he wants to preserve and protect the “Jewishness” of Israel/Palestine, (whatever that is) and he gets a free pass and standing ovations in congress.

  • 'The Trump opportunity' -- some Palestinians are optimistic about Abbas visit to White House (!)
    • This really shows how ignorant and even stupid that Trump really is.

He has no understanding of the insidious nature of the Zionist enterprise in Palestine, he knows nothing of the history of the colonization and ethnic cleansing to which the Palestinians have been subjected...his go-to guy for everything in foreign relations is Jared Kushner whose family is well known to be big supporters of Israel and the settlements.

The only thing that MIGHT work would be if he stopped any and all support for Israel, including military equipment and money, and instead offered to give it all to the Palestinians.

But he is surely not going to do that. That would involve way too much actual study, critical thinking and realistic assessment of the past...

  • The formal end of the two-state solution
    • Netanyahu is right.

This is war. It is Israel against the rest of the world...and Israel is using overt and covert modern weapons and the rest of the world has been limited to words and demonstrations.

One byproduct of reading Mondoweiss every day has been the realization that it is high time to ratchet up the resistance to the Israeli occupation of Palestine. It is time to start thinking in terms of real weapons and real soldiers and using the military if necessary to break the blockade of Gaza.

  • Making David Friedman ambassador to Israel is a boon for ISIS
    • So Trump is really showing his true colors now. He was going to change more special interests....he was supposed to not be beholden to anyone. So, the best the progressives can do for the Palestinians is bitch a little about Trump's pick for Ambassador?

If we are so incensed about the settlements why can't we do something meaningful instead of pussy footing around whining about what this guy said or who that guy gave his money?

Why can't we support cutting Israel off the trough? No money. No weapons. No help.

If that doesn't work, why wouldn't we start supporting and weaponizing the Palestinians? Oh, they are dangerous Muslims you say... Well, so are the Islamist groups that we support so well in Syria.

After all, ground zero for Islamist terrorism against the US is Israel and its treatment of the Palestinians. Just read what Bin Laden gave for reasons for 9/11.

If it was any other country doing ethnic cleansing the US would be bristling with attach helicopters, fighter jets and missile cruisers, preparing to invade.

Have we sold our soul to the devil because of Zionist support for our politicians?

Is that what is meant by "American exceptionalism"?

  • Hell just froze over: the New York Times runs an article saying Zionism is racist
    • The irony is thick here.

"There are double standards in the press too."

      Sure are Phil....

If I wrote a comment saying that Zionism and the whole premise for the state of Israel is the same as "white nationalism" and David Duke is less of a racist than Netanyahu, it would never get printed here....

But it's OK to print Boehm saying the same thing.

It is interesting though that Boehm still has to qualify his statement (and really contradict himself) about the alt-right and Israel:

"It is important to emphasize that in some crucial respects, the comparison between the alt-right’s white-Christian ethnic politics and the Jewish State is not just misleading, but sinister."

Really??? Why would that be???? Oh, yeah...I's because the Jews have been victims throughout all of history.right? It's that Holocaust thing.

"The history of the Jews — a tiny minority that has faced persecutions, pogroms and the Holocaust — isn’t analogous to that of white Christians. This is an important qualification, and the reason for which, when Richard Spencer speaks of the alt-right as “a sort of white Zionism,” he is promoting a despicable lie. It must be possible to sympathize with Israel and show understanding of Zionism’s historical conditions but to refuse any sympathies to the alt-right."

I don't see it. Using history (even lies and myth) to justify racism, occupation, oppression, mass murder, torture, terrorism, house demolitions....the killing of American citizens......

Has the alt-right done any of those things?

If the comparison is a "despicable lie" it's because Zionism and the immoral acts of the state of Israel are MUCH WORSE than anything the alt-right can be accused of......

  • Jewish brawl on CNN signals breakup of the pro-Israel monolith in the Trump era
    • Nothing is more despicable than calling legitimate criticism of Israel and legitimate criticism of certain people (who may be Jews) anti-Semitism.

It is in fact a form of fascism: a devious attempt to abridge the right to free speech.

It is also racist because it puts one group above all others. The implication is that they can do no wrong and no one has a right to criticize them.

Authors have been labeled as anti-Semitic when they note similarities between the brutal violence of Israel and that of Nazi Germany.
      From Israel's Dead Soul:
"To deem such comparisons anti-Semitic creates an ethical framework in which inordinate violence can be justified as an act of justice. "

Judith Butler says this of the charge of "anti-Semitism" for criticizing Israel or Zionism:
"The charge refuses to consider the view, debate its validity, consider its forms of evidence, and derive a sound conclusion on the basis of listening to reason. The charge is not only an attack on persons who hold views that some find objectionable, but it is an attack on reasonable exchange, on the very possibility of listening and speaking in a context where one might actually consider what another has to say."

If anti-Semitism is disallowed, then the manipulative and deceitful labeling of legitimate criticism as "anti-Semitism" must be disallowed as well...

American Jews don't know that the Israeli enterprise in Palestine is a brutal racist one that degrades, kills, tortures and maims innocent Palestinians and (wait for it...) the Israeli public approves. (According to Shmuel Rosner) (Can that be true?) And if that's not enough...if they found out...WOULD THEY BE PISSED.....

      2. Phillip Weiss is a Jew hater. (According to Yonah Fredman) (Wow! He's not just a self-hating Jew...but a real dyed in the wool Jew hater?) Who knew?

      3. New word: "chuevos" I'm still not sure what it means but I'm gonna keep looking for a chance to use it to prove how smart I am...

  • The dark side of Jewish consciousness: manufactured anti-Semitism
    • "Perceived anti-Semitism is the mother’s milk of Zionism."

      I wish I said that. It's beautiful.

The term anti-Semitism has been overused and misused so much that it's meaning has evolved. Calling someone anti-Semitic no longer means that person doesn't like it means the Zionists don't like that person.

You don't have to worry about the American Zionists uprooting to Israel. If they left, who would manipulate the movies, the media and the general public to be pro-Israel and anti-Palestinian?

The truth is the last thing the Middle East or the world needs is a psudo-ethno, psudo-religious, racist state that openly favors one group over another.

    • Once the US stops supporting Israel unconditionally (if that can ever be made to happen) and starts supporting the Palestinians, there will be a lot less anti-Americanism as well.

  • Clinton aide called Netanyahu a ruthless 'wing nut' and Israel 'depressing'
    • I find it somewhat comforting that behind the scenes the Clinton camp really sees Netanyahu for what he is: a murdering, lying, stealing, insane piece of dog excrement.

And I don't hold it against any of them that they say only nice things about him in public. Everyone harbors resentments and ill thoughts about other people in our lives which we would never admit in public.

Israel is depressing and so is the way the Clinton camp supports the Zionist enterprise and denies the rights of the Palestinians. Hillary has done so much in her life to help children and marginalized can she be so callous about the Palestinian women and children? How can she in good conscience condemn BDS when it is a nonviolent civil action that doesn't break any laws and is surely protected by the first amendment?

Is there any hope that she will change her public stance on Israel? If the Obama record is any indication, the only change would be in the wrong direction...

  • Necessary Transformations: Ending the claim to exclusivity
    • As Miko Peled has said many times: There is nothing Jewish about what the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians.

I don't know what it means to be Jewish, although I joined and contribute to JVP....and I'm happy to be associated with them.

Judging by the things said and done by JVP: those are good people. I don't need religious teachings or a priest or rabbi to tell me that ethnic cleansing, land theft and oppression of the Palestinians is evil and must be stopped, and I don't think they do either. Any religion that claims an exclusivity on morality has taken hubris to a stunning level.

And I don't need a religion to tell me that the way the NYT and the rest of the MSM refuse to portray the reality of the persecution of the Palestinian people is also evil. It is so complete that it must be happening as the result of a concerted effort. The people that carry out that effort to manipulate the minds of the blissfully uninformed are criminals, accessories to murder, and that includes all of the organizations that work to perpetuate the lies like the ADL, CAMERA, AIPAC, STANDWITHUS, etc.

    • The comments of yonah fredman vis a vis the truth are in a different universe...but to compare the words "yonah is a moron" and "all Israel apologists are morons" is a fair syllogism that leads us agnostic-ily to "yonah is an Israel apologist".

But vis a vis yonah and "vis a vis" I would have to say that "vis a vis" is one of his favorite terms vis a vis obfuscation and vis a vis trying to sound intelligent and vis a vis sounding vacuous .

  • Jill Stein defends BDS in CNN town hall
    • It is refreshing to hear an American politician actually make statements like: "sponsoring a very hostile military policy that violates international law, that doesn’t do us any favors." but to my mind she is too restrained.

It's not good enough to say it "doesn't do us any favors." What needs to be said is that Israel is a terrorist state and a racist apartheid state that is committing crimes against humanity on a daily basis and has been conducting a slow and calculated genocide against the Palestinian people.

What we need is to elect someone who speaks truth to power in no uncertain terms like George Galloway or even Miko Peled.

The United States should not only stop giving aid to Israel, it should start giving money and weapons to Palestine. It is the extreme imbalance in power that makes the situation so dangerous. If Israel is to be allowed to have nuclear weapons, so should the Palestinians... which actually means Israel should be forced to give up their nukes.

  • Anti-occupation activists stand with Black Lives Matter as Jewish orgs attack movement over Israel criticisms
    • "If Israel must mow the lawn in Gaza or take some lumps in a war with Hezbollah, well, there’s always the morning after. "

What kind of a lowlife would say something like that?

Israel can go ahead and kill 2000 innocent Palestinians including 500 children and ...oh, well just another day in the racist apartheid state.

That just goes to show how far you Zionists have sunk.... You have lost your humanity and all regard for the lives of others. You have become animals...the worst kind...the kind that preys on the young and the weak.

May you die a miserable death and burn in hell forever.....

  • Palestine stands for the larger divide in the Democratic party
    • yonah,
What exactly do you know about elections in the US? From your long and vacuous diatribe, I would have today: NOTHING!

If there is a large turnout of Hillary voters, the Democrats may well take a majority in the Senate. Democrat voters mostly vote Democrat up and down the ticket.
There are 34 seats up for re-election in 2016, of which 24 are Republicans. Using all of the polling averages, the prediction is that the Democrats will take the Senate by a seat or two.

The Democrats have had a very sophisticated campaign with focused ground games and well thought out internet operations. The younger generation, especially the younger Jewish voters are all in for it is only a matter of time before the game changes completely.

BTW...I'm sick of reading your B.S.

    • “No group that agrees with BDS would celebrate Shabbat or have Hanukkah parties. Real Jewish people don’t support BDS.”” -

This brings up an interesting question: Who are the "Real Jewish people"? According to this woman, supporting BDS disqualifies one from being a real Jewish person.

Does one have to believe in God to be a real Jewish person?

If someone was born to a Jewish family but changes to Christian, are they a real Jewish person?

The State of Israel according to the Law of Return accepts people if their mother or a grandparent was Jewish but they are not Jewish under Jewish law. What if my mother was Jewish but converted to Christianity when she married my father? Am I still a real Jewish person?

What if a Palestinian woman converts to Judaism, is she a real Jewish person? Are her children real Jewish people? Are her Grandchildren? Does she qualify under the Law of Return?

Are Messianic Jews real Jewish people even though they don't qualify under the Law of Return?

Wouldn't it be much easier and make more sense if there was a total separation of church and state and everyone had the same rights and privileges regardless of their religion, race, creed or color?

Can you tell a real Jewish person by the way they look? Is the fact that someone is Jewish or not more important than the content of their character?

2% of a massive region? The Zionists have taken 100% of Palestine.

"frequently themselves embroiled in inter-clan struggle" Your aren't really using this to justify the illegal, immoral Israeli occupation of Palestine, are you? As if the Jews have never fought among themselves...

"free white people of the enclave would have surely preferred a fight to the death to being subsumed by any of the surrounding powers" So you're saying that the Israelis were willing to fight to the death because they were afraid of being subsumed by Egypt and Jordan? That has got to be an award winning statement in the arena of far-fetched statements on so many levels I don't even know where to start...

"least-bad transitional arrangement" a 69 year occupation is a least bad transitional arrangement? Now you're off the rails on the crazy train...

"would have had little choice but to unleash great destructive force on the populations of the savagely aggressive surrounding region" The Zionists had every chance to do things differently. They could have peacefully settled in Palestine. They didn't have to do ethnic cleansing. They didn't have to kill innocent women and children. Get serious.

"to deafen themselves to the whines and bleats of a tiny contingent of self-described progressives whose hatreds were imagined as nearness to a just god"
Well...the Zionists have certainly deafened themselves to the 95% of the world that wants the occupation of Palestine to stop, but unfortunately for them, as this article points out, many Jews including many Israelis are joining the movement to free Palestine. And the younger Jewish generation is not aligned with the Zionist enterprise, and as they take over by attrition the Israeli influence on the US will continue to fade into obscurity....

Even though Turkey is a difficult and complicated country to understand, I respect their efforts to break the Israeli blockade of Palestine. -- Senator Fullbright, Chair of Senate Foreign Relations Committee: 10/07/1973 on CBS' "Face the Nation".

"I am aware how almost impossible it is in this country to carry out a foreign policy [in the Middle East] not approved by the Jews..... terrific control the Jews have over the news media and the barrage the Jews have built up on congressmen .... I am very much concerned over the fact that the Jewish influence here is completely dominating the scene and making it almost impossible to get congress to do anything they don't approve of. The Israeli embassy is practically dictating to the congress through influential Jewish people in the country"

    • 2) What is Zionism?

•Zionism is a relatively new thing.

•It has only existed for a century.

•Zionism redefines the true essential nature of the People of Israel, and substitutes for it a completely contradictory and opposite character - a materialistic worldly nation.

•Their misfortune is lack of what other nations possess, i.e. a state and army.

•Their salvation is possession of a state and army etc.

•This is clearly spelled out in the circles of Zionist thought, and among the leaders of the Zionist State, that through changing the nature and character of the People of Israel and by changing their way of thinking they can set before the People of Israel "their salvation" -- a state and an army.

The People of Israel oppose the so-called "State of Israel" for four reasons:

FIRST -- The so-called "State of Israel" is diametrically opposed and completely contradictory to the true essence and foundation of the People of Israel, as is explained above.

SECOND -- Because of all of this and other reasons the Torah forbids us to end the exile and establish a state and army until the Holy One, blessed He, in His Glory and Essence will redeem us.

THIRD -- Aside from arising from exile, all the deeds of the Zionists are diametrically opposed to the Faith and the Torah.

FOURTH -- Aside from the fact that they themselves do not obey the Torah they do everything they can to prevent anyone they get under their power from fulfilling the commands of the Torah, the claims to freedom of religion are lies. They fight with all of their strength to destroy the Faith of Israel.

I don't know how you could have missed Miko Peled with all the research you obviously have done.

Well, I guess I do know how you could miss Miko because the MSM refuses to give him an audience.

I have written to MSNBC, and CNN trying to get them to interview him...but apparently they aren't interested in the truth. They would rather let Zionists like Wolf Blitzer throw softball questions out to Netanyahu spokesman and liar Mark Regev.

I even sent copies of his book, The General's Son to Rachel Maddow and Chris Hayes of MSNBC and they refused to accept them.

      They are all so pathetic...

Of course we can't do those things (even though that is exactly what Israel does with the families of suspected "terrorists") but that is the world that we live in. It's too bad we can't do those things because that is the only thing that works.

      Would that be OK?

  • Waters: It is dangerous for US and Canada to criminalize a nonviolent form of protest against a foreign regime, BDS
    • If I do not respond to some situation, my conscience kills me. I believe in permissible violence, not necessarily non-violence. Pawan Kalyan

Even the most famous proponents of "non-violence" like Ghadi believed in active resistance and self defense.

In February, the U.K. government announced that it is will be illegal for “local [city] councils, public bodies, and even some university student unions … to refuse to buy goods and services from companies involved in the arms trade, fossil fuels, tobacco products, or Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.”

The Israeli website +972 reported last year about a pending bill that “would ban entry to foreigners who promote the [BDS] movement that aims to pressure Israel to comply with international law and respect Palestinian rights.” In 2011, a law passed in Israel that “effectively ban[ned] any public call for a boycott — economic, cultural, or academic — against Israel or its West Bank settlements, making such action a punishable offense.”

Last year The Intercept reported on the criminal convictions in France of 12 activists “for the ‘crime’ of advocating sanctions and a boycott against Israel as a means of ending the decades-long military occupation of Palestine,” convictions upheld by France’s highest court.

The criminalization of BDS is the greatest threat to free speech that exists today. It must be resisted with all means possible. Thousands of people have died defending this precious right and we must continue the fight so that their sacrifice is not in vain.

      To paraphrase Malcom X:

I am for violence if non-violence means we continue postponing a solution to the Palestinian's problem just to avoid violence.

The number of Palestinians made homeless, the number of Palestinian children arrested and abused and the number of Palestinian refugees waiting to return to their homes is getting higher by the minute, yet you supported Israel.

Mr. President, in the summer of 2014, when Israel murdered thousands of Palestinian civilians, and young Palestinians in Gaza fought bravely to defend their homes and their families, futile though it may have been, instead of supporting those who seek peace and dignity, you chose to provide Israel with more arms and more money.

Though you claimed, “for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken.” Then you allowed Netanyahu to disgrace you, to walk, like Cesar marching into Rome, his hands stained with Palestinian blood into Congress. He was a victor, while you cowered away in some corner and let him spew his hateful lies. Where, Mr. President was your spirit then?"

I just can't fathom that people never get around to asking, "Why?"

    • Well, Annie...of course you are right. I should have said ,"a few Muslims" are willing to die to kill a few of us.

But ALL Muslims IMO have a perfect right to be mad at the US government and there is no good reason why they shouldn't hate us. When I think of all the things the US has done against Muslim countries...I feel ashamed....

Unconditional support of Israel and Israel's crimes against humanity, support for all the worst dictators in the Arab world, in fact supplying Israel the weapons it uses to kill and maim innocent Palestinian women and children, invasion of Iraq and total destabilization of the area, CIA support for anti-Assad radicals in Syria, creating a false crisis to threaten Iran, killing thousands of innocent civilians with drone strikes, turning Libya into a failed state, etc., etc.

I'm not a Muslim but I know something about them since I was married to one for more than 20 years. I had literally hundreds of Muslim in-laws and I lived and worked in the Middle East and India for years.

And believe me, all of those in-laws hated the foreign policies of the US.....

    • It never fails to amaze me that this attack in California, like every terrorist attack, can be analyzed from every possible angle EXCEPT from the angle of why do Muslims hate the US so much that they are willing to die just to kill a few of us.

Although there are many parts to an appropriate answer to that question, the ground zero for that kind of extremism is Israel and the illegal, immoral Israeli occupation and oppression of Palestinians and the other Muslims in the surrounding countries. Bin Laden himself said it many times:

BIN LADIN: We declared jihad against the US government, because the US government is unjust, criminal and tyrannical. It has committed acts that are extremely unjust, hideous and criminal whether directly or through its support of the Israeli occupation of the Prophet's Night Travel Land (Palestine). And we believe the US is directly responsible for those who were killed in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq.

KSM also said the same thing as did many others who have committed acts of terror.

    • This is one big reason why the IAEA has become a joke. Once upon a time it was an independent agency dedicated to non-proliferation. But now it is just another tool of the US and Israel used to demonize countries that they don't like. From the book Manufactured Crisis:

Manufactured Crisis shows that US-Israeli strategy was aimed at using the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to build a case that Iran’s nuclear program had been merely a cover for a nuclear weapons program. That case would serve as the basis for United Nations Security Council actions that would punish Iran, or even for unilateral US military action against Iran. As a result the IAEA, which had previously been a relatively nonpolitical actor performing technical analysis of nuclear programs, was transformed over the 2003– 8 period into an adjunct of the anti-Iran strategy.

  • 'Why I am a Zionist'
    • Using MLK to advance the idea of Zionism is an obvious example of the logical fallacy called Argumentum Ad Verecundiam.

In formal logic, Argumentum Ad Verecundiam refers to arguing a point with an appeal to authority. This type is categorized as a logical fallacy. Citing one seemingly authoritative source is simply not conclusive evidence, even if the authority is seen as an expert on the given subject.

For the sake of clarity, there are three degradations of this maxim enumerated in this essay. First, it is especially fallacious as proof when the quoted authority demonstrates no special knowledge on the subject. Second, when the authority who is not an expert on the given subject is also quoted out of context, the argument is even weaker. Third, the lowest violation of this formal logic principle is when an advocate uses a false rendition, or a fabricated quote, by the same authority who can claim no expertise.

This is the best framework for understanding how various exponents of Israel have used Martin Luther King Jr. to promote their cause.

A real Justice department would go after those American citizens who are stealing Palestinian land, and a real American government would provide arms and military support to the Palestinians. Israel is a rogue terrorist state and something needs to be done about it...

The whole spectacle of the supposed "nuclear crisis" and Iran has been manufactured by ill informed, special interest owned politicians in the US and the evil government of Israel.

      From the book Manufactured Crisis:

"But the secret at the heart of the crisis is that the central assertions underlying the American, Israeli, and European pressure on Iran were not based on historical reality."

I remain convinced that containment of you neo-cons is impossible, from which it follows that the choices before us are not to arrest these neo-con speech makers or to "neutralize" them but rather how we should "neutralize" them.

And so my counsel to proponents of the new consensus is to consider the unspeakable horrors that would then be visited not just on Israel and Iran but on the entire region and beyond if these violence inciting neo-cons are allowed to continue urging Israel to attack Iran. There is only one solution to this problem...

  • Israel's endless misery for Gaza is no policy at all
    • If an alien from outer space landed on earth in the Middle East with no prior knowledge of events there and witnessed what the world is allowing Israel to do to the Palestinians, he would conclude that we are a most barbaric civilization and certainly don't deserve this beautiful blue marble that we all inhabit.

History and precedent are important but they shouldn't be allowed to obscure the reality of the facts on the ground. Anyone in his right mind could look at the situation there and quickly realize that it just isn't right and something different has to happen. Yet our American politicians continue to support and even encourage the brutal, illegal occupation and oppression of Palestine.

We have to get them to change and/or elect different people.

  • Don't touch occupied village of Susiya! US warns Israel
    • It's time that the US started to enforce international law.

Obama should send the marines to protect Susiya. If it was any other country flagrantly violating the civil and human rights of innocent people, the US government would be all over them: cutting off aid, sanctions, threats, sending advisors, seizing their assets, etc., etc.

I am against US military hegemony but it would be great to see what the cowardly, gutless IDF soldiers would do if they were faced with a REAL MILITARY. All they know how to do is kill defenseless women and children...

In fact, send the entire Pacific Fleet off the coast of Tel Aviv.....

  • Nine reasons Obama is going to win on Iran. The first: Netanyahu
    • Yes, let's send the B-52s to Israel...and bomb it into oblivion. We'll hit the schools and the hospitals first...and then we will start in on the settlements in the occupied territories....after that we can hit all of the apartment buildings in Tel Aviv, Netanya, Petah Tikva, Rishon LeZion, etc.

And as a nice finishing touch we can try out a few of our new bunker-busters on Dimona...

Then maybe Israel will know what it feels like in Gaza and the West Bank during an Israeli attack...

  • Clinton can't separate herself from foreign-policy buffoons Saban and Adelson
    • Pippilin,

You're right. Hillary definitely suffers from Israel Rapture....

Bernie is progressive and I like him but I cannot and will not vote for anyone who is pro-Israel.

We need some new politicians. I nominate Miko Peled to take Barbara Boxer's senate seat.

And we need to start a Pro Palestinian PAC. Since Citizens United we could collect donations from any and all supporters of Palestine world wide. The Gulf States have plenty of money.

How about you Pippilin? You could be the founder of the Free Palestine Political Action Committee?

    • That does it.

I will not vote for Hillary. However, the problem is that Bernie Sanders is no better. He routinely votes the Israel line.

      What to do????

  • California students resist authorities’ attempt to conflate criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism
    • My point is that the last thing the world needs is a "Jewish state".

First of all, can someone be both a Jew and an atheist at the same time? Doesn't the classification as "Jewish" imply a religious choice? One certainly can't be a Christian and an atheist or a Muslim and an atheist...

Which brings us to the real point: The very idea of a "Jewish state" is so ridiculous that it can't even be defined. And Netanyahu's claim that the "Palestinians are ruining the Jewishness of Israel" is so far beyond the pale that it is laughable.

    • Perhaps atheists should manipulate the US and England into giving them a homeland because of the painful discrimination they have endured through the centuries.

      Greece would be nice.

Of course they would have to drive out the Greeks because none of that Greek Orthodoxy could be allowed as it would dilute the "atheist-ness" of the new state.

      And how about Gays????????

  • Does Israel have a toxic personality? Ask Michael Oren
    • Actually it should be spelled Ku Klux Klan not Klu Klux Klan....

    • Good points all...

One other thing that is missing from this most excellent thread is a critical look at what the Zionist enterprise is all about.

When speaking about the "demographic threat" the Palestinians pose, Netanyahu has said they are ruining the "Jewishness" of Israel. What he and the other Zionists are trying to do is preserve the religious and ethnic homogeneity of his country.

There were others through out history who have tried to do exactly the same thing for their countries: Hitler in Germany and the Klu Klux Klan in the US.

Netanyahu is a least in the US congress. Hitler and the KKK are universally condemned.

      Is there a double standard????

  • Netanyahu under siege, in 'the most embattled democracy on earth'
    • We also need a PAC that will help elect US politicians who support freeing Palestine and the BDS efforts.

With the new lax rules for donations, it would be possible to garner large amounts of money from undisclosed sources for such an effort.

I'm sure that an ambitious sort could find plenty of big money donors that hate the illegal, immoral occupation of Palestine, the marginalization of the Palestinians and the Arab citizens of Israel and the stranglehold that Zionist organizations have on the congress and the media.

Peter Hindrup mentions Miko Peled in a comment on this thread. Miko is a very credible critic of Israel as he is Jewish, Israeli, a former IDF soldier and the son of a famous Israeli general. He has been on RT several times and is a very popular speaker all around the world and yet not one US program will have him on.

Miko now lives in the US and would make an excellent senator. He would be the kind of candidate our PAC would support.

  • Munayyer and Beinart's historic debate on the solution to the conflict
    • BTW Phillip, the edit function of this site is not working.

Small but aggravating detail I know....

      Just saying.....

I will donate again so we can get it fixed.

    • For the life of me I can't understand why this Beinart guy gets on TV and in the news.

I have seen him everywhere and he just repeats the same tired talking points he has copied and pasted from the Neocon/Zionist playbook.

This is from Daily KOs in 2006:

      To: feedback.

I wouldn't ordinarily resort to profanity, [in email] but surely, surely everyone has to agree at least that Peter Beinart is a slimy, transparently self-serving asshole. Robert Wright was far too conciliatory.

Let me put it this way: if two people were talking about writing a book. One person has never written one, but goes on record favoring a method that fails and fails miserably. The other person has written a book and argues against the method suggested by the novice. The novice is proven wrong.

Does the novice who has never written a book and who has been proven wrong have anything of real value to say to the author, especially criticism of any kind?

Cause that's who Beinart is: a college boy who's never fought who presumes to lecture his intellectual and militarily more experienced betters on their chosen fields of expertise.

We're talking Richard Clarke, Rand Beers, et al who mounted devastating informed critiques of the plan to invade Iraq.

Who the fuck is Peter Beinart?

He's a magazine editor who might know something about spelling and punctuation, but is singularly and now spectacularly unqualified to write or speak on anything beyond essay construction.

  • Rightwing rabbi seeks to pit Power against Rice on Iran ahead of AIPAC speeches
    • I have no use for Susan Rice or Samantha Power as neither one has the courage to condemn Israel for the ongoing genocide and brutal occupation in Palestine.

I wish someone would tell me why the US supports Israel at all. We have nothing in common with the Israelis, they continue to commit crimes against humanity which the US would condemn if any other country committed them and there is no upside to supporting Israel. The downside however is huge. Every Islamist terrorist organization lists the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the unconditional support of Israel by the US government as their MAIN REASON for attacking Americans and American interests. If there was no Israel, there would never have been the attacks of 9/11.

This rabbi Boteach deserves...well, I can't say what he really deserves...but he needs to be dealt with VERY severely. How does he dare to speak of genocide after what Israel has done to the Palestinians? And why didn't Israel help in Rwanda if it was so important to them?

How could ANY American official appear in the same picture with such an evil man?

  • White House suggests Israel is lying about Iran talks-- as Obama officials shun Netanyahu
    • This whole Iran thing is just a ploy by Netanyahu to deflect attention from the brutal occupation of Palestine by Israel.
Once again Bibi the Bamboozler (Google it) has succeeded in manipulating the blissfully uninformed American politicians.
Obama is the first president that I can remember that has stood up to Israel...even a little bit. This feckless display of mindless support for an apartheid state makes me sick.
If and when someone starts a pro-Palestinian PAC, I will happily support it and donate to it.

  • Obama won't meet Netanyahu during 'bizarre,' 'historic,' 'unprecedented' visit (Updated)
    • Neither Bibi nor Israel are true friends of the US. Here Bibi is bragging about how easily he manipulates simple minded American Boehner:

Almost every Islamist terrorist group sites the illegal, immoral Israeli occupation of Palestine and the brutal treatment of the Palestinians and America's unconditional support for Israel no matter how many innocent Arabic women and children are murdered as the prime reason their organization was started. Bin Laden himself said it was his driving motive in starting Al Qaeda and organizing the 9/11 attacks.

The US should stop all support for Israel and start treating Bibi like the international criminal that he is. He shouldn't even be allowed to travel fact the ICC should have him arrested if he leaves Israel.

  • Can we just retire the phrase 'relative calm'?
    • The New York Times has become a Zionist rag.

What has happened to journalism in the US? Has it always been this bad?

I am so glad that there is Mondoweiss and the Electronic Intifada and I am happy to support them both.

  • Palestine, an Islamic issue?
    • Palestinians are not necessarily Arabs. Arab ethnic identity does not include Christian and other ethnic groups that retain non-Arabic languages and identities within the expanded Arab World.

The conflict was not between Jews and Arabs from the beginning. It was and is a conflict between Zionists and Palestinians.

The "majority of the Arab world" has not pulled out of anywhere. There are hundreds of thousands of Palestinians still in refugee camps waiting for their right of return.
