I tracked the original interview on LCP and listened to the whole thing. You actually did not include a very important point that he made just prior to what you are mentioning above. I found this excellent English translation of his comment:
‘’ I’m going to tell you something. I was in England two years before the violence in Syria on other business. I met with top British officials, who confessed to me that they were preparing something in Syria. This was in Britain not in America. Britain was organizing an invasion of rebels into Syria. They even asked me, although I was no longer minister for foreign affairs, if I would like to participate. Naturally, I refused, I said I’m French, that doesn’t interest me.’’

I am speechless. I remember when the Syrian revolution first started, my generation in the family would have heated arguments with my parents’ generation. We were with the revolution and our parents were against, not because they were for Assad (they weren’t), but because they were convinced that there was a foreign involvement underneath. We always dismissed their beliefs as being too conspiratorial. They will feel vindicated after this.
