First, you need better sources for information and analysis than PBS’s ‘Frontline’. The Saudi vs. Iran equation is just as false as the Israeli ‘occupied = occupier’ equation which is the Zionist’s second position if putting all the blame on Palestinians for the conflict fails. No, the victims do NOT have equal responsibility for the occupation or the violence that arises from it. Only the Israelis can stop the occupation so the responsibility is theirs. Their false equation has reverberated through American perception and successfully muddied the water on this issue.
The false equation of responsibility between Iran and Saudi Arabia is also false. It is almost entirely Saudi desire to control the region that fuels that conflict and the US Government has adopted that false equation as the starting point for any discussion. It should be rejected. It is IRAN that is under attack from Saudi Arabia, Israel and the United States.
Even if Iran did have a nuclear weapons program – which it doesn’t – it would be a rational response to the terrible danger that Israel’s EXISTING nukes present to Iran. If scores of nukes were pointed at me by a rogue nation that has consistently shown utter contempt for international law and national boundaries, I might want to have a nuclear weapon as a deterrent. With Israel’s half dozen or so Dolphin class submarines in the surrounding seas with nuclear armed long range cruise missiles, Iran could never launch a nuke towards Israel without assuring its own destruction.
The nuclear ‘agreement’ with Iran should never have been supported by any of us because it simply gives the US another tool for justifying military action against a sovereign nation that has never threatened the US and is not a real threat to Israel.
Nor should there be any sanctions against Russia for consolidating control over Crimea and its critically important naval base there after the United States overthrew the democratically elected government of Ukraine, on Russia’s border.
PBS has systematically helped sell US aggression since before the Gulf War. And Syria has the right to invite whoever they deem necessary to help them resist the international aggression against them by the US, the UK, France, Turkey, Israel, Jordan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia as well as Australia and Canada.
