Yochanan Gordon alleges the commonality of “the right to defend” is accepted by all parties. True. But does the right to defend imply the right to use force? No. Certainly not in this case. Chomsky says just as the American colonists knew how to find security (by leaving natives and their lands alone i.e. not colonizing) so too the Israel government knows how to gain security, namely lift the siege and forfeit any attempts at expansion and control of the West Bank and Gaza. But this won’t happen because Israel is not aiming for peace. It is aiming for expansion over security and what we are witnessing is utterly predictable.
