It doesn’t matter any more to bigots that the term “anti-Semitism” is used. The charge just a facade and a dog whistle to anti-Arabs everywhere. Does anybody seriously believe the State of Israel is in existential danger any more? Hard to believe when it possesses nuclear weapons and was able to “take out” the Iraqi reactor.
It’s all about the mega-bucks that influence Congress and the mega-bucks the defense industry makes by doing so. “Anti-Semitism” is a dog whistle to whip up hate, just like our would-be dictator used “birth certificate” to whip up hate against an African-American president.
I agree that “Palesreal” has its limitations. I think there was some question about Israel’s name at the founding, but since both Arabs and Jews are Children of Abraham, perhaps the name of the new One State might reflect that…
Something like: ABRAMIA, perhaps.
An older name that some residents in the Ottoman Empire used was “SOUTH SYRIA.”
Another possibility might be ‘SOUTH LEVANT,” although that has echoes of European involvement in the region.
It might be wise to get away completely from either “Israel” or “Palestine” in the name.
Cleveland is the congressional district of former Congressman Dennis Kucinich, perhaps the last non-Zionist member of Congress, and beloved of the Arab American people of this city. One wonders if the particular viciousness of the ICE in this case isn’t something of a slap-in-the-face of Arab Americans and of Kucinich, who was stabbed in the back by his own party when he ran for reelection.
Israel is trying to wriggle out from the implications of the international laws against OCCUPATION, which are clear and unequivocal in their support of the rights of people under Occupation. By trying to end the use of the word, “Occupation,” Israel’s minister wants to push just a little further past the boundaries of illegal settlements and all the other Israeli abuses, and to create just a few more “facts on the ground.”
They also have taken over American democracy without our consent, and help themselves to billions every year of our tax dollars without our consent. (Our Congress voted for those appropriations, you say? How do you think those Congressmen are treated if they don’t do what Israel tells them to do? Go back to Point #1.)
