I had a day filled with love of my own people, the Jews, yesterday. First, a fairly powerful media guy called me to apologize for having chewed me out 2 weeks back over a story I wrote for New York Magazine. I can’t name names because it would only hurt people. But the guy’s call came out of the blue and was a pretty pure act of grace. I was humbled, and stammered my thanks. Then I was painting cabinets in my new house with NPR on when I heard Daniel Zwerdling‘s piece on Iraq veterans with PTSD whose lives are in turmoil. Quiet, precise, horrifying, it was as good as journalism gets. No ego in it, just endless compassion for the vets. Then I went down to have dinner at a restaurant with a friend and the first person I saw there was an old leftwing lawyer I know who walks with a cane. He stops and shakes everyone’s hand and in a soft voice wishes them the best of the season. He’s bent by age but generous. I’m always moved to see him.
This morning I got an email from a friend speaking fearfully of the possible Weimarization of America in which the Jews will be singled out as an elite. I can see all his historical analogies. Germany was humiliated in WW1 and a fascist arose. Jews were successful then, even as the German economy faltered. Today the yawning gap between rich and poor here is staggering and wrong. My friend’s chilling email is the best answer to the great question that Tony Judt framed a year back in his talk at NYU:
Why is the American Jewish community so determined to convince itself
that we are living in 1938? Why does the most successful, the most well
integrated, the most culturally and politically influential, the most
socially and economically well situated Jewish community since the late
years of the Roman republic, why is it so worried about the demon of

The answer to Judt is that Jews have a long historical memory and that the incredible privilege my people are now experiencing causes anxiety. All the Jews I found so moving yesterday are privileged people. Two are media powers. Two are rich. My lawyer friend has a beautiful modern house overlooking the river. Even Zwerdling, I imagine he’s doing well. I don’t have any answer to this. Compassion for the suffering of others isn’t the same as experiencing that suffering; the elite’s children aren’t going into uniform. One thing historians say is that history doesn’t repeat in the same way, that historical analogy is always insufficient. As an optimist I like to think that privileged Americans, including empowered Jews, will figure out a new, just, democratic answer to the terrible inequities in Zwerdling’s report.
Taking Responsisbility and the need to avoid Weimar-style destruction of the US:
If Jews are 50% of the elite, more than 50% of the money in US politics then they are 50% responsible for what happens.

John – Your analysis is incorrect. While there are many wealthy Jewish Americans in this country, the vast majority of the elite are not Jewish Americans. At the very very top of the wealth list, Jewish Americans may make up close to 50% (do the math on Forbes and get back to me on it if you like), but when you look at the elites as a whole they make a far smaller percentage. I actually work with people at Goldman Sachs and I can tell you that while Jewish Americans may be disproportionally represented there, the majority of people working there are not Jewish. Dave Corzine, John Thain, Hank Paulson, John Whitehead. They ain't Jews John.

I recently read a book, The Wages of Destruction, that most people would not want to read — 700 pages of text, mostly economics: trade policy, things like that — that happens to portray Hitler as the sole, determined, unflagging engine egging Germany without rest into both World War and the Holocaust.
No Hitler, no World War, no Holocaust — that was made plain. IOW, even under the worst historical and economic conditions it took the super willpower (triumph of the will?) of the most capable evil man to bring about the Holocaust. Not a scenario likely to "randomly" repeat itself.
Still trauma does hang on "irrationally". I think said trauma was the engine of Israel's wholly disproportionate and out of character mass attacks on helpless Lebanon. As long as Israel "distracted" herself playing "omnipotent" she could avoid scary thoughts, about her vulnerability in the Mideast — which a "normal" (un-traumatized) nation could deal with rationally, but which "Chicken Little" Israel always equates with the immediate ultimate end.
I understand about being surrounded by a hundred million Arabs, but it doesn't help to approach that situation (which hasn't been a serious threat since 1973) mindlessly. Israel reacted to the taking of two uniformed (illegally occupying) soldiers like the Nasser came back from the dead.
Such behavior is self-destructive and can become a self-fulfilling prophecy — making for Israel enemies as over-determined as she is over-determined.

Another "specialist" in anti-Semitic conspiracy fantasies, Minister Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam, recently expounded and embellished the same "historical" point.
"Money Power"
In 1962, Omni Publications, a distributor of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, reprinted an early attack on the Federal Reserve called The Truth About the Slump (1931), in which author A.N. Field asserted:
"The Money Power that rules the world today is centered in the hands of individuals of a particular race and creed." Field labeled the founding of America’s Federal Reserve as that point when "the United States was enslaved under this German-Jew engine of control."
In the 1950’s, anti-Semite Wickliffe Vennard published The Federal Reserve Corporation,alleging Jewish domination of the "Fed" while declaring along the way that Hitler, like Jesus, had come into power "to chase the money changers from the Temple." But the most widely cited expositor of conspiracy theories regarding Jews and the Federal Reserve is probably Eustace Mullins — a longtime anti-Semitic propagandist and a Holocaust denier who still actively peddles this propaganda. Mullins, whose book, The Federal Reserve Conspiracy, is widely promoted in the extremist netherworid, argues:
"The American people have assumed the burden of hundreds of billions of dollars of debt simply because we let a handful of enemy aliens take over our monetary system. The three most important architects of our present monetary system are …Paul Warburg, the German Jew who wrote the Federal Reserve Act, Emmanuel Goldenweiser, the Russian Jew who supervised the details of Federal Reserve Board operations through its first thirty years, and Harry Dexter White, son of Lithuanian Jews, who set up the International Monetary Fund."
The "Rothschild" Connection
"Most of the owners of the largest banks in America," wrote the late Sheldon Emry, an early leader of the racist and anti-Semitic ‘Identity" church movement, "are of Eastern European ancestry and connected with the Rothschild banks."
In the literature of bigots, the name Rothschild is a trigger for the most explosive of anti-Semitic tremors, and it usually sets off a litany of other Jewish names. In his recent book Called to Serve, Col. James "Bo" Gritz, the 1992 Presidential candidate of the extremist Populist Party, charged that "eight Jewish families control the FED" (Federal Reserve System).
In 1983, the charge that Rothschild banks and other international banking concerns, mostly with Jewish names, controlled the Federal Reserve was published (probably from earlier sources) in the newsletter of a local Pennsylvania chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) — not an extremist group. The article stated that the Federal Reserve System "is not a Federal entity but a private corporation owned in part by the following: Rothschild banks of London and Berlin, Lazard Brothers bank of Paris, Israel Moses Seif banks of Italy, Warburg bank of Hamburg and Amsterdam, Lehman Bros. bank of New York, Chase Manhattan bank of New York, Kuhn, Loeb bank of New York, Goldman Sachs bank of New York."
In fact the Federal Reserve Bank of New York —the largest and most significant of the Fed’s 12 banks — lists the banks in the Second Federal Reserve District that are members and stockholders in the New York Federal Reserve Bank. With the exception of the Chase Manhattan Bank, the institutions cited by the NARFE newsletter as allegedly owning and controlling the Federal Reserve system ("Rothschild …Lazard Brothers …Israel Moses Seif …Warburg …Lehman Brothers …Kuhn, Loeb …Goldman, Sachs") were not members of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
About the Federal Reserve System
The Federal Reserve System is the central banking authority of the United States. It is a fiscal agency for the U.S. Government and custodian of the reserve accounts of commercial banks; it makes loans to the commercial banks; and is authorized to issue Federal Reserve notes — that is, the hand-to-hand currency with which we run our daily economic lives.
Those commercial banks which are members of the "Fed" are required by law to purchase stock in their district Federal Reserve banks in order to supply them with a capital resource. These banks do not have .any "control" over the Federal Reserve. Control is exercised only by a Board of Governors, each member of which is a public servant appointed to his or her position by the President of the United States and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
The Federal Reserve System: Purposes and Functions; a book published by the Fed’s Board of Governors, states:
Each of the twelve Federal Reserve banks is a corporation organized and operated for public service. The Federal Reserve Banks differ essentially from privately managed banks in that profits are not’ the object of their operations, and their stockholders, which are the member banks of the Federal Reserve System, do not have the powers and privileges that customarily belong to stockholders of privately managed corporations.
The Nation of Islam: Echoing White Anti-Semites
"The Federal Reserve is owned by… the Jews. You go back to the Rothschilds, and you go back to a lot ofthe early Jews that are in that financial system."
This spurious allegation was among the many voiced by Khalid Muhammad of the Nation of Islam (NOI), in his infamous harangue at Kean College in New Jersey late in 1993. NOI leader Louis Farrakhan, in a March 19, 1995, speech, was more specific:
"The Rothschilds financed both sides of all the European wars. They always wanted to get their hands on the Central Bank of America. And they finally did. On Dec. 22, 1913, Congress passed into law the Federal Reserve Act…. [T]he international bankers took control of the money by taking control of the Central Bank of America, the Federal Reserve…."
Farrakhan’s words echo the conspiracy tracts advertised in extreme right publications such as The Spotlight of the anti-Semitic Liberty Lobby and those of the anti-Semitic and white -supremacist "Identity church" movement. Indeed, all of these varied hatemongers could have sat comfortably alongside one another in the audience at Howard University on February 23, 1994, when Malik Shabazz (a warm-up speaker for Khalid Muhammed) shouted sharp questions while more than a thousand persons responded in a manner reminiscent of the Nuremberg rallies:
"Who is it that controls the Federal Reserve?"
"Jews!"
"Who?"
"Jews!"
Conclusion
The charge that "Jews control the Federal Reserve" is a classic example of the hatemonger’s paranoid-style exploitation of legitimate concerns — in this case, the nation’s economy. Moreover, the wide appeal of this anti-Semitic conspiracy theory among all kinds of extremists strikingly demonstrates how the agendas of otherwise opposing hate groups meet on common ground: the scapegoating of Jews.

Shor introduce some journalist who was going to do a 5-6 minute commentary on Christmas, and I thought to myself, "Surely they will allow a Christian to do this!"
But no, we gentiles are not even trusted to do commentary on our most important holiday. After about 2 minutes, the journalist confesses that he is actually Jewish, and his commentary consisted of him explaining how, contrary to most people, he actually loves how commercialized Christmas has become.
In old European countries, such as Russia, France, Poland, etc etc., when a situation like that was reached, there was one frightening consequence.
Pogrom.
And it is not just a Jewish phenomenon.
The same happened to the Chinese minority in Malaya.
I see America becoming more like Weimar Germany every day…if Jews are disporportionately part of 'the elite' and are 'in charge' all out of proportion to their numbers, they are doing a TERRIBLE job.
Look at American culture and how it has become debased, crude, materialistic, and idiotic since Jews became a major force in the media and cultural scene…education in America is mostly garbage; the economy is shaky at best; transportation situation terrible; families and communities in disarray; Jews getting all of the best jobs and educational opportunities through 'ethnic networking' while most Gentiles have no such ethnic networks to match.

For whatever reason Phil seems to be caught up in Jews ascending as the elite, the intellectuals, the money people who are ruling the US.
I don't see it that way either now or in prior history. Jews have a seat at the table in the US but still aren't sitting at the head of table. If not for 911, the Iraq war and Iran in which some US uber Jews and Israel surfaced to hijack the terrier wur for their own benefit this would not be much of a topic.
Right now the only place the Jews as a group have any substantive political power, due to the political money put out by a small number of wealthy Israel centric Jews and the collective mass of money given by significant numbers of less wealthy Jews, is in the US.
If you look objectively, Jews are still having to work through Gentile leaders to exert any influence, still somewhat like the picture of the royal court advisers of old. Without the convergance of some neo jews in the Bush adm, the existance of the Israel Lobby and other jewish groups and the 911 event at the same time, it is highly unlikely the hard core Jews would have been able to initiate their goal of having the US realign the ME for Israel even with their prominent media imput.
They had to "hitch their wagon" so to speak to the already existing gentile warhawks and neo's "hubris" as a way to acheive their goal. If not for the perfect storm of President Cowboy and 911, their ME war agenda would have gone nowhere. The Israeli agenda for the ME had been put forth by uber Jews and Israelis and worked on since the late 80's without going anywhere, it took an American event like 911 to put it into play.
Now, for well known reasons, including the US as being seen as too favorable to Israel by most of the world, the US star is fading abroad so there is going to be more of a realignment in US power both within and without, than in the ME. This has "loser" written all over it for the US and Israel. Probably more for Israel than the US because if realist are in charge in the next adm we are going to go strictly after our own US interest just to keep our heads above water in the fallout.
Phil is touting, somewhat unwisely I think, the Rule of the Jews because of their superior wealth and intellect and suggesting that Jews can right the imbalance on ME issues like Isr-Pal. It has often struck me that this claiming or asserting of power, or celebrating of power, is like the the skinny kid who finally found a muscle and now wants to kick sand in all the bullies faces and rescue the damsels in distress.
As far as I can see the Doves among the Jews have yet to have any impact on Isr-Pal..whereas Carter, Tutu and W&M and other non jewish figures like Gen Zinn, Bamford, Ritter and others have sparked a real food fight on the US-Isr-Pal issue and made it a topic for the average public. And the public becoming educated on Isr-Pal and JINSA and the AIPACers is definitely not to the Israeli right winger's benefit. Although I did get a fund raising appeal from Jews for Peace last week so there are efforts going on.
What does it say that the hard core US Jews are still the prevailing influence on the Isr-Pal problem?….it say nothing but that ALL special interest who pump money into politican's campaigns control DC policy.
The Jewish power, part, involvement in the US political power structure seems more of an aberration than normal for Americans because it is "foreign", based on Israel. It is no different actually than the power of the Evangelical christian zealots on politics and leader selection right now which also incorporates the foreign aspect as Israel as their free ride to heaven.
All zealot movements no matter what they are based on…a victimized group finally acheiving some power to wield exclusively for their own sake or religious extremist injecting their fanaticism into politics to wield power for their personal obsessions…they all end eventually, if slowly.
Usually when they go too far and the non fanatics, average people who are not obsessed with any single issue which are the majority of most populations everywhere, start resenting and marginalizing the extremist.
There are always extremes and abberations in society and governments that build and are then taken down, build again and are taken down again, over and over.

The Fed was created by private bankers to avoid competition. It is neither Federal nor Reserve-orientated in its origin and purpose, unless you view the indirect inflation tax on average Americans as an eternal reserve, which it has been in every bailout since 1913. It's all about getting interest and passing the bag to the average American consumer-taxpayer. There is no transparency regarding Fed operations, no chance for light, even by Congress. All key appointees have come from the same socio-economic group. The plan is always to attack inflation with more inflation, each time picking a new business sector to go from bubble to bubble. The beauty of it is that the American public hasn't a clue why, for example we've become a debtor nation like any subprime contract credit securitized, the big uptick in ARM interest on the horizon.
Recently, there has been the first bank run in 140 years in Britain. We've had the first run on a public money market fund here in Florida. The U.S. debt markets have been barely functioning for four months. Perhaps one of the presidential candidates could leave the campaign trail long enough to prove their leadership skills by calling for emergency hearings in Congress, the venue in which we the people pay them to do the people's work. Now, other than Ron Paul, who'd do that?
It would appear to me that we can phrase the matter thusly, in four easy steps:
1. There is a growing gap between the Have and the Have-Nots. There are indeed two Americas. There is the America of the wealthy, who can live and do all that they dream – and the America of the desperate, who constantly suffer deprivation and crisis of one form or another.
2. Lots and lots of people who find themselves among the Have-Nots will tend to harbor some resentment against the Haves. this resentment may then turn into hatred and from hatred into murderous bloodlust.
3. Jews are genetically more capable than any other ethnic group in the world. They're the mirror image of Africans. That being the case, while Africans everywhere tend (in their average) to live in shit, Jews everywhere tend (in their average) to live in glass and marble.
4. Among the notable Haves are McCormicks and Adams. But McCormicks and Adams are notable among the Have-Nots as well. It's therefore unlikely that the anger of the masses will be turned against the McCormicks and the Adams as a class. The same applies to Lutherans and Catholics. Only the Jews however stand out as a noticeable group among the Haves – noticeable even when they aren't in their boardrooms. So despite the fact that a majority of Jews are among the Have-Nots, their noticeable presence among the Haves and their being easily identified as Jews by their surnames and customs makes Jews as a whole a likely target for the resentment, hatred and bloodlust of the Have-Nots.
Of course none of this logic is set in stone and there are alternate branches that spread forth from each of these steps and it's hardly ever the Have-Nots that benefit from the bloodletting of the Haves but simply another class of Haves (or a new one) that tend to benefit. Nonetheless, the four points that I've presented do have an internal, and undeniable logic to them.

In the long run, those groups who died in Iraq will have a say; it's not for nothing that American Military personnel and families are for Ron Paul. The main result of looking at who pays the price for American foreign policy, and who benefits from that policy as implemted to date, will come to frutition. As in an earlier thread here, look to Weimar. Lessons are never learned; it's called history (outside the textbooks).

I'm not quite as knee deep iin the jewishness as Phil appears to be in this topic, but I am reading a pretty intersting book by someone from said religious group, "the nazarene" by shalom asch. It's about Christ. It was apparently controversial when it came out, in jewish circles as well. There were actually entire books written about how awful it was. It's good so far but very long like 600 pages
