A list of apparent donors to the Central Fund of Israel, which supports settler militias

Yesterday J Street made an important statement about people in the States who support extremist settlers in the West Bank, and it singled out the Hebron Fund. Well, another organization that does so is the charity that Adam Horowitz turned up after the battle over the "Peace House" in Hebron two weeks ago: Central Fund of Israel, operating out of a fabric store on 6th Avenue, which collected $8 million in the U.S., according to its 2005 federal filing, and gave a portion of that to meet the "urgent security" needs of settlers.

A lot of upstanding Jews gave to this fund, whose vp, Arthur Marcus, is steadfastly opposed to a Palestinian state. We're attaching the list of apparent donors that is included in the charity's 2004 filing with the federal government. They're the links at the bottom of this post. The list of names is not identified as a donor list, but in their own federal filings, many of the family foundations report giving money to Central Fund.

And now, here is the list of apparent donors, in 5 pages:

CFI, page 2

CFI, page 3

CFI, page 4

CFI, page 5

And here are two prominent names on that list:

The late Sam Spiegel, a film producer who won the Oscar for On the Waterfront.  A fervent Zionist, who left a lot of money to Jerusalem. The donation is listed as from: Sam Spiegel Foundation in New York.

And Guilford Glazer, a Los Angeles developer and philanthropist who is on the Forbes 400 richest men list. And is trying to save the two-state solution supposedly, by donating to this Rand effort to plan the Palestinian state. The donation was made through the Diane & Guilford Glazer Foundation
in Beverly Hills, and was for $100,000, according to federal filings.

    Phil,

Its their money. If you had any money that wasn't your wife's you could donate it to Hezbollah.

More power to you. If you guys can expose the source of money to the West Bank settler movement, then this could go a long ways to undermining that movement.

Haaretz today has a good piece:

on how publicizing settler businesses in Europe is undermining those businesses. The potential of consumer boycotts could very well remove the private financial support from the US to the settlers. Of course, it means that we should be willing to join in those boycotts of the big donors. Lowes anyone?

I didn't click on the link but if I remember correctly the Glazer plan (floated several years ago) to save the 2 state solution was a complex plan of seperate roads and high speed rails to connect what remains of the cut up Palestine territories to each other without Israel having to give up any of their settlements.

What does everyone make of how fast the SEC has accepted blame for what happened in the Madoff case?

The SEC has been out to lunch about short selling, about AIG, about the banks, and now all of a sudden with a fund that any investor worth his salt would have known was fishy, they suddenly admit that they were not doing their job.

The SEC is right now establishing the grounds upon which the Madoff "investors" will get their own bailout. The excuse will be SEC negligence. And that is the next stage of this idiocy– one rich group of investors gets bailed out for not doing their due diligence.

Christopher Cox, what about your negligence with regard to Bear Stearns, with regard to Lehman, with regard to AIG, Washington Mutual, Wachovia and CITI. What the f. is going on here? Why don't you make all those investors who got screwed over by these "financial institutions" whole again too?

This country needs a wholesale rebellion– that is the honest-to-God truth.

if the Madoff investors get bailed out, there will be a revolutionary reaction in this country.

the above statement implies that only a quarter of "all money donated by American Jews" is "donated particularly to Jewish causes." I take the liberty of doubting this.

What have you based your doubt on, Rowan?
Oh, I know, its the paranoia of obese, unemployed, buggerey awful worthless whinging repulsive "English" fools?

    Madrid,

You're right, of course, and the actual probability of us getting one can be determined by the same mathematical models used to gauge risk in the derivatives market!!!

Seriously though, when we see it piling up and piling up – bailouts and cheats, cheating and bailing buckets, taxpayers in debt to the nth generation, scamming bankers and politicians, the odds look better and better that there WILL be a wholesale rebellion.

  9. Meanwhile, the WSJ is actually making fun of the increasingly destitute US public. It says Madoff is evidently a genius and should be put in charge is Social Security and Medicare. This is, of course, vulpine Jewish 'humour.'

Why should taxpayers accept a bailout justification due to negligent SEC conduct? Since when is the job of the SEC to supplement crony incestuous investors' lack of due diligence? Let's watch this closely.
If a bailout is even mentioned–OMG.

This philanthropy frees up Israeli government resources to fund colonial terrorists in the OPT. Members of a Palestinian charity were recently convicted for exactly that. First they came for Palestinian-Americans, and I did nothing …
