  1. The news clip included the video “internet killed Israeli p.r.” which includes an image of Hitler. Can someone explain to me how this image is helpful?

      Listen to the lyrics. Here:

You had them on your wireless saying, ‘Death to Jews’
You sliced & diced & circumcised & claimed Fair Use

The song is lampooning the IDF’s insistence on claiming that anyone that Israel doesn’t like is the “new Hitler”. If you’ve seriously got a problem with the diminishing of Hitler’s guilt and culpability then I strongly suggest you take it up with the Israeli government, which manages to constantly belittle and diminish the evil of Hitler in its efforts to demonize everyone who disagrees with what they do.

And check out the second image of Hitler, with side by side pictures of Hitler and some Arab gentleman who happens to be interviewed on Israeli TV – with a banner reading “Spot the Difference”

        • tree says:

Oops! I knew he looked familiar. That was Avigdor Lieberman on Israeli TV. My whopper of a mistake..

        • That’s avigdor lieberman in the second image.

        • I played “Internet Killed Israeli PR” and didn’t see the “Spot the difference/Lieberman” sequence.

          no matter.

WJ’s wittian protests of the “Internet Killed Israeli PR” video suggest to me that the very idea that Israeli propaganda is being trumped is deeply troubling to Israel. As Amy Klein wrote on HuffPo recently, If there’s one thing we Jews are good at, it’s public relations. We are the masters of rhetoric. We’ve practically copyrighted the word Holocaust ©, making other countries covet the title. How’s that for PR?”
Controlling the PR is Israel’s 4th, 5th, and 6th “temple;” PR = THE Israeli franchise. For Arabs — Palestinians to boot, people with no talent, no list of Nobel prizes, no pedigree, no nuthin’, to lampoon and puncture Brand Israel is humiliating.

Klein’s essay wraps around the concept of Jewish choseness:

“Now isn’t that the brilliance of the Jewish people? Jews turned the simple act of being selected into a concept of being chosen. It’s one of the first of many Jewish public relations coups.”

If Palestinian Arabs got the best of “Israeli PR,” maybe Jews aren’t so chosen after all. And the word is leaking out, all over the internets.

      • Even with the lyrics and the visual I don’t see your interpretation, although I will grant it rather than argue with it. It seems to me that those who made the video are just dividing up sides with us or against us. Maybe the Israelis are playing with us and against us also. I am not overly convinced of the efficacy of the Israeli P.R. campaign. But I can guarantee you when I see someone using Hitler’s image in a way that I don’t understand, that they are just deepening my enmity. If that’s their purpose. Bravo!

Ah, never underestimate anyone’s ability to misunderstand something that is not in their perceived interest to understand. Dif you likewise have difficulty understanding the reference to Al-Qaida? Did you think that was an endorsement of Al-Qaida as well? Or a lampooning of the IDF’s over the top attempt to brand all the passengers aboard the ship as terrorists? Its not all that hard to understand.

It seems to me you have an enmity” problem. You don’t like the video, so I’m sure, as you have admitted before, this will result in you hating the Palestinians more. Your problem is internal, WJ. For someone who seems so concerned about anti-semitism, you have a profound ability to lump things you find objectionable back to one ethnic group. Maybe you should look inside your own prejudices and not project them on to everyone else.

I am not overly convinced of the efficacy of the Israeli P.R. campaign.

The moral problem is not its “efficacy”. Its its falsehoods and fearmongering, to which you have allowed yourself to become vulnerable.

It seems to me that those who made the video are just dividing up sides with us or against us.

Funny you say that, since the Israeli government has consistently claimed that the “whole world is against us”. And that doesn’t seem to bother you. Maybe you should consider whether they the Israeli government is really looking out for you. Because I assure they are not.
