  1. MRW says:

Really nice work, Sivan. I love the full image of the Doberman (Behance), the fluidity you got in the body, and the suggestion that the brown patches give me of all that’s left of land for the Palestinians.

  2. VR says:

So learn the lesson of fascism, it always turns in on itself and devours who it says it is protecting. Remember it, because its coming

  3. annie says:

the star of david on the doberman’s collar is noted.

check out sivan’s silencing israel flyer. the university of amsterdam is hosting a symposium nov 3-5th.

    • Kathleen says:

missed that. Thanks for bringing our attention to that.

Sivan is obviously an incredible artist with a conscience. Digs right into the seriousness of the issue.

      Ideas for some graphics

Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann etc all with muzzles on their faces. Silent on the Goldstone Report, the UN report about the Mavi Marmara, etc etc. But Maddow will address gay human rights issues, protesters in Iran (her owners obviously give her permission for this) but will not touch the I/P conflict.

They are muzzled and their paychecks trump any principles they may have.

How about a graphic of Daily show Jon Stewart showing the map of Israel and Palestine but not showing any of the illegal settlements in the West Bank.

What about a graphic of the apartheid road system in the West Bank. Different license plates…tie it into the white only bathrooms, restaurants in the U.S.

Wish I could draw but stick people are tough for me.

Sivan you are one talented person

Ye gads I wish I could draw! I assume you got an A++++++.

Beautiful work. Glad you’re using your talent for good. :)

  5. Henry Norr says:

Great pix, but (like most of the commentary from liberal Israeli Jews about the fascist trend in Israeli politics) they’re almost entirely about the likely effects of these developments on liberal Jews. Except perhaps for the reference to the Nakba, one would hardly know from these pix that the Palestinians even exist, let alone that they’ve been suffering much worse forms of oppression for 63 or 43 years.

    • Shmuel says:

      Henry,

I was going to make a similar comment, but then took a closer look (see my comment below). The Palestinians are “absent-present” (to paraphrase an Israeli legal term used to steal property from Palestinians who remained within the Israeli state in ’48), in the map of Israel that has obviously been ethnically cleansed (“Population: Jews, Language: Hebrew) with the exception of a few domestic slaves: “For Sale – Arab cleaning lady”. The frame of reference is very Tel-Aviv, liberal-Jewish-Israeli, but the absence of Palestinians is actually a statement.

  6. talknic says:

There’s nothing in the Declaration for the Establishment of the state of Israel about being a democracy. In fact, it says this ” it will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel;”

The prophets of Israel are a religious notion, theocratic.

  7. Shmuel says:

The details are brilliant, the apocalyptic vision all the more effective because of the settings are so familiar.

    1. A statue of Lieberman in Rabin Square (Tel-Aviv), site of Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination – which followed a campaign of incitement against the peace process and Rabin personally, in which Lieberman played an active role.

    2. The man being beaten was handing out flyers that say “Amnesty Israel” on them. The notices visible in the background, on a round, Tel-Aviv-style notice board read: “Wanted – Volunteers for a new settlement”; “The state is for you. Be loyal to it”; “Wanted – Yossi Sarid (exponent of the Zionist “extreme left”) – For the crime of treason against the homeland”; “Shooting course for toddlers – Making a man out of the child”; “For sale – Arab cleaning woman”; “In concert – Ariel Zilber (racist, right-wing singer)”; “Salute to … At Ze’evi (far right-wing pol., advocate of “transfer” of Palestinians, assassinated by the PFLP) Square”.

    3. The paper the man is reading is “Yisrael Hayom” – right-wing daily, published by Sheldon Adelson. The headline reads: “Anti-abortion law passes”.

    4. The map of Israel includes the Sinai and a place called “New Yamit” (Yamit was the main settlement in Sinai, evacuated and demolished prior to Israel’s withdrawal), and is labelled “Jews”, while all the surrounding countries are labelled “Enemies”. The legend reads: “State of Israel, Area – 80,000 sq.km., Population – Jews, Language – Hebrew”. The books on the children’s desks are titled “Homeland Lesson” (a real subject in Israeli schools even today), and the pictures on the wall are of Meir Kahane, Avigdor Lieberman and Rehavam Ze’evi (see explanation in 2, above).

    5. The scene is Tel-Aviv (the Shalom Tower is visible in the background), but the street is “Marzel St.” (Baruch Marzel – extremist settler leader, follower of Meir Kahane). The book being secretly passed on is David Grossman’s The Yellow Wind.

    6. The sign above the door reads: “National Centre for Curing Sexual Deviations”. The graphics on the sign are reminiscent of government authorities (like the Anti-Drug Authority), and the design on the doors of the Klalit Sick Fund (HMO) logo. The caption above the poster of the happy couple reads “I’m cured”.
