‘Mondo’ editors to speak tonight in Oakland

Tonight in Oakland, the two co-editors of this website, Adam Horowitz and I, will be doing an event to benefit the Middle East Children's Alliances's water project in Gaza -- and to promote our book on the Goldstone Report. 7 p.m., First Congregational Church, directions at that link. Your ticket cost helps a vital project for the people of Palestine: water purification and desalination efforts, in a very dry part of the world where 4/5 of the water is being grabbed by an occupying power. It's going to be an inspiring event, please come out and join us and lend your voice, comments, questions to a movement for change in American policy.

    Wish I could be there

if I did attend the gathering, though, and was able to say a word or two -

fellow-travelers in the struggle for Justice in Palestine

based on the miracle in tahrir (liberation) square

how those magical eighteen days means for the world

    bad move last sunday

that cold-blooded assassination of osama bin laden

bad, because it could cost lives

    he has followers

who knows how many but some

    a few might seek revenge

in afghanistan & pakestan, for sure

oh that this going the wrong way on a one way street doesn’t end up killing anyone, not in Afghanistan, not in pakestan, not in iraq, not in palestinei
    nor in the USA

    nor anywhere else -

could, should, would have been different

had only osama bin laden been taken as a prisoner of war

    which he was

being that, for some people, he’s at least the equivalent of a saint. maybe more?

but, then, had he been captured, kept alive and well, oh what a trial his would have been

“members of the jury, on the charge of having been the shot-caller in the violent messianic movement that brought about 9/11, what is your verdict?”

    “guilty, as charged, your honor”

“and on the charge of obl’s having slandered presidents barack obama and george w. bush. with his insistence that, should he be found guilty of crimes against humanity, that they, too, be tried for their crimes against humanity?”

    “Not guilty, your honor.”

Slightly OT — but does anyone know why the Supreme Court would want to take this highly charged political case on?:

Supreme Court to consider Jerusalem passport case

“…(Reuters) – The Supreme Court said on Monday it would hear an appeal by parents who want Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to record Israel, not just Jerusalem, on their son’s U.S. passport.

The justices will consider whether lower court judges were correct to dismiss the lawsuit on the grounds that it raised a foreign policy issue falling outside the judiciary’s power.

An appeals court agreed, saying judges have no authority to order the federal government to change U.S. foreign policy…”
