Some of the violence, deaths and injuries in Palestine this week include…

The Palestinians are being brutalized by Israeli violence which is subsidized with American tax dollars. This is not an all inclusive list as Palestinians are reporting that violence against them has increased during Ramadan, with attacks getting worse during the hours preceding them breaking their fast.  During Jewish holidays the Israelis impose curfews against entire towns and villages in the West Bank so that the settlers can burn and pillage Palestinian property in peace and during Muslim holy months the Israelis look the other way as the settlers go out and provoke violence.

Palestinian youth killed by military jeep
A Palestinian youth, Amin Talib Dabash, died late last night 16 August after he was run over by a military jeep belonging to the Israeli ‘border guards’, in the area between Um Tuba and Jebal Abu Ghunaym, south of Al Aqsa Mosque.  Eyewitnesses said the driver deliberately targeted the young man who was on his way to work. He was taken to the Haddasa hospital where was pronounced dead one hour later. Israeli occupation soldiers and settlers regularly target Palestinians with their vehicles whenever they drive through Palestinian residential areas, especially in the villages of occupied Jerusalem. They are never held accountable by the authorities.

Medics: Gaza teenager shot dead
GAZA CITY (Ma’an) — Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian teenager near the central Gaza Strip city of Deir Al-Balah late Tuesday, medical officials reported.  Medics said the Palestinian, who was not identified, suffered “more than 10″ gunshots to the head and upper body after soldiers east of the Al-Masdar area opened fire.

75 year old woman shot in Johr al-Dik
Selma Al Sawarka, or Um Ahmad, is an active woman, a mother of seven, and a grandmother of 35, who has never quit working. August 10, 2011 dawned like most days do for her; she went out to graze her family’s goats. She took her neighbor with her, 15 year old Keefa Al Bahabsa.

They went to the same land they usually go to. At 9:30 that morning they saw an Israeli tank and an Israeli jeep near the border. Not an uncommon sight. The tank and jeep left. About 30 minutes later, the jeep returned, three soldiers got out, and opened fire on Um Ahmed and Keefa. Um Ahmed was shot in the leg, Keefa fled to get help. The soldiers also shot ten of the families goats.

Here are some more examples:

Palestinian shepherd severely injured in landmine blast north of Jordan Valley

Palestinians: Fisherman injured by Navy fire off Gaza coast

Settlers attack bus of relatives of Palestinian prisoners

PA: Settlers torch farmland near Nablus

Israeli soldiers torch dozens of olive trees in W. Bank village

A prisoner’s wife and her baby were also detained this week, but, it didn’t fit into the category of violence…

  1. Is anyone ready to fight yet? Of course not. How un-American to get outraged at Westernesque occupiers brutalizing the indigenous.

  2. Cliff says:

More mutual humanism. Poor poor Israel, being singled out!

  3. American says:

    SEND THE MARINES.

    Seriously.
A NATO peacekeeping force for I/P would curtail these kinds of Israeli assaults.

    • DBG says:

So I assume you feel we should also send in our Marines to Syria because the human rights violations there are much much worse than in I/P.

Why is it that Arab on Arab violence is excused on here, but whenever an Arab gets killed by a Jew, it is a human rights violation? This site is dedicated to “the war of ideas in the ME” why is Israel the only country any of you worry about?

      • annie says:

source? who is excusing violence here?

      • biorabbi says:

The level of moral obscenity grows. A careful viewing of Mondoweiss implies there has not been the slaughter of thousands of Syrians by Assad in recent months. A reading of Mondoweiss would not inform the reader in this ‘war of ideas’ scores of Palestinians have been killed, injured in Syria in recent weeks, days, hours! Annie, below, asks for ‘source’ -well, I’ll tell you this, it sure as hell would not be Mondoweiss as the obscenity in Syria continues. Let’s discuss a BDS flash mob in heat, but as Assad culls the Syrians in Latikia, silence.

        • annie says:

try to relax biorabbi, we get many many comments a day about syria. many. it was a simple question. why don’t you just answer it responsibly instead of going into a tizzy. i just linked to an article about violence in syria this morning by john landis of syria comment. here it is again. i don’t think any of the feigned concerned israel supporters even commented on it.

now you should either provide a source for the allegation or admit you have nothing to back it up, it’s basically hollow and just used as another diversion. but i know you won’t. goodbye!

        • Are you kidding me, rabbi? The world is anything but silent on Syria. It’s all over the news, the UN is monitoring, US officials are calling for sanctions, etc.

Israel, on the other hand, has acted with impunity for 64 years. Violation after violation of international law, continuous and abhorrent disregard for human rights, etc. that has only been answered with UN condemnation, but never action. Never sanctions, never reduction of aid, never reduction in military exchanges. Instead, diplomatic cover for war crimes and increased aid, financial and military.

So, it seems perfectly reasonable that while the world focuses on the acute abuses of Arab leaders, such as Assad, Mubarak, Qaddafi, a few of us might as well stay tuned in on Israel’s chronic abuses.

        • You’re so concerned about Syrians, it is very touching. Now if that fount of democracy and human rights, Israel, is to put its principles into practice I expect we will be hearing any day now how they are taking in Palestinian refugees from Syria, and sending troops in to protect them. Then you can come here and pose as the great defender of Palestinian rights and lives. Watch those crocodile tears, btw, they are sharp and you can do yourself a mischief with them.

BTW where do get the idea that Syria is far worse than Israel from?

        • biorabbi says:

A word about ‘sources’ is in order.

Syria is a police state and the external press are banned. I note Annie and others ask about ‘sources’ as if allegations of murder and torture are fabrications of zionists, without merit. How about Enduring America? How about Al Jazeera which both have fabulous live blogs. I also follow Landis blog because of depth of the blog’s comments, most of which are Syrian. Finally, the final zionist bastion of Amy Goodman.

But Assad can kill, the families post on you tube, and progressives can condem Israel and ask about sources. Assad has a nice racket doesn’t he. A final source today would be the news pages of the WSJ outlining how the lovely Assad stooge amb. to the US has his staff take pictures and then threaten and kill family members at home in Syria. Sources indeed.

So it’s basically Israeli-occupied Gaza during Operation Cast Lead?

        • Walid says:

Biorabbi, the US simply wants most of Assad’s power transferred to his Sunni Prime Minister and to put some distance between Syria and Iran to make the Saudis happy, but it surely doesn’t want Assad to go. When an Israeli says that Jazeera has a fabulous blog on Syria, it says it all. Don’t forget Reuters, another “fabulous” reporter on the news coming out of Syria.

        • Cliff says:

I’m pretty sure annie was asking you to ‘source’ people here excusing/issuing apologetics for the Assad regime.

        • Donald says:

“Are you kidding me, rabbi? The world is anything but silent on Syria. ”

It’s not kidding, exactly, but yes, he is spreading BS. He knows the news is full of stories on Syria and editorials condemning them. Western governments condemn Syria and even some of Syria’s friends are condemning them. I won’t speak for everyone, but I think most of us here condemn the murderous repression in Syria. (I leave open the possibility that armed opponents of the regime are also contributing to the violence, because I don’t know enough, but whatever the degree to which that is happening it is clear that the Syrian government is behaving brutally.)

Biorabbi is intent on repeating a storyline that Mondoweiss and other progressives are horrible people who condemn poor little Israel and say nothing about evil Syria and he simply doesn’t care whether it is true or not. It’s the ” they suck” and “you suck” argument–you’d have to ask Mooser or one of the other experts which numbers those are in the taxonomy of Israel apologetics, because I lose track, but I think it’s the second and third.

      • Chaos4700 says:

Denier Beyond Grotesque, I assume you’re also addressing occupied Golan? There has been a sustained level of violence against Syrian civilians there to the point where they’ve been all but ethnically cleansed.

        • Walid says:

You want grotesque; how about Zionist shit-disturber par excellence, Bernard-Henri Lévy, after having succeeded in turning Libya upside down, chairing a meeting of Zionists and Islamic fundies in France to campaign against the Syrian regime? Lévy’s agenda of pushing Israel’s interests had begun with the Sudan, he then move on to Libya and then to Syria.

From al-Manar and al-Safir last month:
Key Zionist philosopher Bernard-Henri Levy; former French Minister of Foreign Affairs and major advocate of the war against Iraq Bernard Kouchner; member of the youth movement in the Israeli right wing Likud party Frederick Ansel; and former Knesset member and Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak’s advisor Alex Goldfarb who was not questioned by anyone for claiming to be a Syrian opposition member and spokesman of “Democratic change in Syria” assembly; were basic participants in the Syrian opposition conference in Saint-Germain in France.

This “Zionist” atmosphere did not bother the attendees, which Muslim brotherhood representative in Paris, Moulhem Droubi, was among. One young Syrian girl “Souraya” interposed saying: “In this hall there is not one Syrian. In this hall, I only see Zionists.” However, she was immediately interrupted and dragged out by the French security under the eyes of the police.

According to the Lebanese daily As-Safir reporter in France Mohammad Ballout, Frederick Ansel responded to the young girl saying: “Unfortunately, some Arabs still regard Zionism as an insult, although it is a source of pride and honor.”

The Syrian opposition conference on Monday included speeches that called for toppling down the regime, and attacked Iran and Hezbollah, while completely ignoring occupied Palestine and the occupied Golan Heights.

More on the Syrian lady, Thurraya Ezzeh, that complained that the Syrian meeting had no Syrians but Zionists; From Uprooted Palestinians:

          Posted on July 8, 2011 by rehmat1

“On July 4, a conference of Syrian anti-regime groups was held in Saint-Germain in France. The meeting was attended by 200 people representing none of the Syrian groups calling for reforms in Syria – the ‘Democratic change in Syria’. The meeting was organized by La Regle du Jeu (The Rule of the Game) magazine and website which is headed by Zionist Jew Bernard-Henri Levy.

… The symbolic Syrian attendee was no other than Moulhem Droubi, the Muslim Brotherhood representative in Paris. That show how much threat Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and Syria poses to the Zionist entity.

It seems the US-Israel-Saudia sponsored Syrian Revolution has lost its main objective, the regime change in Damascus. For example, the daily death toll has significantly gone down; many of refugees are returning from Turkey as sense of security is increasing and Bashar Assad have promised some cosmetic reforms too.

… Thurraya Ezzeh, a pro-Palestinian Cause activist, said the main goal behind the conference held at Cinema St. Germaine in Paris is mere Zionist, adding the conference was a ceremony of hypocrisy in service of the Israeli interests par excellence and the participants had nothing to do with the Syrian people.

“All we could see at the meeting were Zionists like Bernard Kouchner and Henri Levy and others pro-Israel supporters who have only one dream, which is to establish Great Israel,” said Ezzeh in an interview with the Syrian TV via satellite.

She noted that she went to the meeting along with a group of Syrian friends and anti-Zionism activists to speak out their opinion that the meeting was not for the sake of the Syrian people.

Ezzeh was dragged out from the meeting hall by the French security members as she was saying “There is no one Syrian person here. I can only see Zionists”.

“When France is not concerned in saving the besieged Palestinian people in Gaza who are subjected to the most heinous massacres, how could it be concerned for the Syrian people,” Ezzeh wondered in her speech to the Syrian TV.

“The whole meeting was mere hypocrisy as the goal behind the France intervention is not humanitarian at all. It is rather aimed at serving the France’s interests in the region,” said Ezzeh.

A conference was held on Monday at Cinema St. Germaine in Paris under the name of “Popular Movement in Syria”, organized by La Regle du Jeu (The Rule of the Game) magazine and website which is headed by Bernard-Henri Levy, one of the staunchest defenders of Israel along with other French figures that can only be described as Israel’s friends in France.
