Why is Mort Zuckerman so hot about Obama?

Mort Zuckerman was angry and dismissive of Barack Obama on MSNBC last week. He applauded that controversial Romney ad that misquoted Obama. His eyes flashed as he said that the country should hold Obama responsible for failing on the economy, which is “much worse than when [he] was elected.” Zuckerman said he’s a Democrat, but he described Obama as a political failure.

This is not a new story. The Wall Street Journal did a big piece last month on Zuckerman turning on Obama. And here’s Zuckerman’s last summer in US News, saying the country’s Standard and Poor’s demotion had done it for him and Obama.

I have no doubt that Zuckerman disapproves of Obama’s economic policies. But his rage seems way over the top. As I wrote last month, I believe Zuckerman’s real agenda here is Israel. The record is clear that Zuckerman turned on Obama over Israel. He declared Obama’s Israel policy a “betrayal” last spring. And a year and a half ago, he said Obama was wrong on settlements and America needs Israel (like a fish needs a bicycle!) and he accused the president of “hostility” against Israel from the start of his administration.

If you look up Zuckerman on the Federal Election Commission site, you see that he gives most money to Joe Lieberman, a Joe Lieberman PAC, Shelley Berkley, the late Tom Lantos, Lantos’s daughter Katrina Swett, and tons to Republican Eric Cantor. The Israel lobby, across party lines.

But on his too-hot MSNBC appearance, Zuckerman said not a word about Israel. What’s it all about, Mort?

Israel,of course. The NY Daily News is as hydrophobic as the NY Post.

Zuckerman’s a coward. At least Haim Saban openly says that he’s all about a foreign country when he buys America’s politicians.

Why is Mort Zuckerman so hot about Obama?

Because he is old. In thinking. He comes from that generation who think that if you have all the money in the world, you live in the best city, or you are the head of your business or are acknowledged as a senior politician, you are entitled to indulge your intellectual passions and points of view to the exclusion of others, or societal change. No one calls them on it, by that I mean no one of note.

Look at Gingrich. Same type. So is Eric Cantor ( in waiting). Barney Frank isn’t, but his sister Ann Lewis is. The Adbusters editor isn’t.

I wish we had the Asian respect for aging in this culture because it would force these mandarins to age by growing (and mocked or dismissed if they failed in that becauses it would be apparent), instead of fossilizing because they have the money and power to get away with it.

MY COMMENT: Shelley Berkley (D-NV) of Las Vegas is one of Sheldon Adelson’s lapdogs.

FROM WIKIPEDIA:

(excerpts) . . . [Sheldon] Adelson donated over $25 million to the M.I.S. Hebrew Academy in Las Vegas to build a high school. In 2005, Adelson and his wife contributed $250,000 each (thus the total contribution from the couple was $500,000) to the second inauguration of President George W. Bush.[12][13][14] In 2006 Adelson contributed $25 million to the organization Birthright Israel, which finances Jewish youth trips to Israel.[15] Also in 2006 Adelson contributed $25 million to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority.[16] In 2007, Adelson pledged another $25 million to the Taglit-Birthright Israel program, allowing for approximately 20,000 people to take part in the program. . .
. . . In 2010, Adelson donated $1,000,000 to Newt Gingrich’s organization, American Solutions for Winning the Future. . .
. . . According to the New Yorker, Adelson is “fiercely opposed to a two-state solution” for Israel and Palestine . . . as a “betrayal of principle.” Adelson opposed the 2007 Annapolis Peace Conference.[5] Adelson has been a close ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. . .
The New Yorker article also described how Shelley Berkley, a Nevada Democratic Party congresswoman who had worked for Adelson in the nineties as vice-president of legal and governmental affairs, quoted Adelson as saying that “old Democrats were with the union and he wanted to break the back of the union, consequently he had to break the back of the Democrats.” The Boston Globe also noted that Adelson has “waged some bitter anti-union battles in Las Vegas”.[5][21] Congresswoman Berkley also claimed in the New Yorker article that Adelson “seeks to dominate politics and public policy through the raw power of money.” . . .
