Bachmann has secured funds from private donor to move US embassy to Jerusalem

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann speaks about Israel and the Middle East in June, 2011.

Last I heard Bachmann was on a downhill trajectory (Iowa caucus poll: Newt 31%  Romney and Paul tied in a dead heat for second, PDF) but she's promising the big enchilada:

Politico delivers:

"I also want you to know it will be on Inauguration Day under my administration that the United States will move our Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem," she said. "I already have secured from a donor who said they will personally pay for the ambassador's home to be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem."

“I already have secured from a donor who said they will personally pay for the ambassador’s home to be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.”

She is openly promising that she will pursue a privately-funded foreign policy for those foreign interests who can pay for it.

  2. Why this women uses words like: “majority of Americans”, “most of the Americans share”, “his views are only shared by a tiny minority”,blah ,blah. ???
It is a blatant lie. It’s pure propaganda that she is spewing out of her “lipsticked” mouth. Does this Lady Ignoramus really think that people are THAT stupid??
Does she treally think that people are going to fall for her lies??
Maybe she should apply, instead for a presidential position, for a position of a personal Netanyahu’s shoe polisher??
I’m not even mentionig the fact that this Lady-Ignoramus did not know that Libya is situated in Africa ,(Sarah Palin thought that Africa is a country–she is another wizard of the country of Alaska).
Maybe Michelle B. thinks that Israel is a Continent???
    This would not suprise me.

    • Charon says:

Judging by her body language and choice of words, yeah she believes it. Bachmann is a useful idiot. If AIPAC called her up thanking her for ‘kind words’ and offered her a personal one-on-one meeting with “Jesus” prior to the “coming apocalypse” she would believe it too.

  3. DanMazella says:

She’s not going to beat Gingrich. I’m hoping Gingrich is the Republican nominee, even though i dont think he will beat Obama.
I heard Gingrich said he’ll put John Bolton as his secretary of state.
Can you imagine that and if Gingrich moves the embassy to Jerusalem.
Philip Weiss will have a heart attack. hahaha

(excerpt) At a Republican Jewish Coalition event in Los Angeles last week, Rep. Michele Bachmann offered a candid view of her positions on Israel…
…Here’s a transcript of some of her remarks at the RJC event:
“I am convinced in my heart and in my mind that if the United States fails to stand with Israel, that is the end of the United States . . . [W]e have to show that we are inextricably entwined, that as a nation we have been blessed because of our relationship with Israel, and if we reject Israel, then there is a curse that comes into play. . .”

SEE: Is the Twice-Divorced Newt Gingrich Converting to Catholicism for a 2012 Run? ~ by Max Blumenthal, 03/31/09

(excerpt)…With this act and Gingrich’s subsequent conversion, [Deal] Hudson [a leading Catholic conservative] said Gingrich has ratified his devotion to the “theocon” agenda. “Newt’s conversion represents about as radical a rejection of secularism and relativism as you can make,” Hudson told me.
With more than $5 million from right-wing casino baron Sheldon Adelson, Gingrich recently founded a conservative nonprofit called Renewing American Leadership. Among the group’s planned activities, which appear coordinated with a who’s who of the Christian right, are a series of “tea party”-style protests against Obama’s economic plan, and the production of a film about Pope John Paul II’s role in bringing down the Soviet Union.
According to Hudson, Gingrich’s outrage over Obama’s speech at Notre Dame was his first act as a Catholic politician. “When I learned he was about to convert, I understood his concern,” Hudson said. “He was worried about the Church he was about to enter.”
With his sins officially expunged, Gingrich appears poised to play a decisive role in the 2012 Republican presidential sweepstakes. . .

      • Deal Hudson is himself a convert to Catholicism, iirc. He got into serious doodoo over an illicit affair that cost him a job in right-wing Catholic circles.

just my observation — converts are the worst — they’ve got to prove they’re more catholic than the pope, for some reason.

I stopped doing Catholic ritual a few years ago, but someone who’s as Catholic as I was never really becomes unCatholic. people like Hudson and Gingrich who use Catholic like a brand name make me sick. I hope Catholics everywhere have the same revulsion.

Santorum makes me even sicker, because he’s NOT an opportunistic convert but a lifelong member of the One True etc. But his thinking is hideous, outrageous, disgusting. But on NPR this morning, when Ari Shapiro gave a run-down of the RJC meeting, Santorum’s name was not even mentioned. Put him in the RJC Also-Ran column.

SEE: Father First, Senator Second, By Mark Leibovich, Washington Post, 4/18/05

(excerpt) In his Senate office, on a shelf next to an autographed baseball, Sen. Rick Santorum keeps a framed photo of his son Gabriel Michael, the fourth of his seven children. Named for two archangels, Gabriel Michael was born prematurely, at 20 weeks, on Oct. 11, 1996, and lived two hours outside the womb.
Upon their son’s death, Rick and Karen Santorum opted not to bring his body to a funeral home. Instead, they bundled him in a blanket and drove him to Karen’s parents’ home in Pittsburgh. There, they spent several hours kissing and cuddling Gabriel with his three siblings, ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2. They took photos, sang lullabies in his ear and held a private Mass.
“That’s my little guy,” Santorum says, pointing to the photo of Gabriel, in which his tiny physique is framed by his father’s hand. The senator often speaks of his late son in the present tense. It is a rare instance in which he talks softly.
He and Karen brought Gabriel’s body home so their children could “absorb and understand that they had a brother,” Santorum says. “We wanted them to see that he was real,” not an abstraction, he says. Not a “fetus,” either, as Rick and Karen were appalled to see him described — “a 20-week-old fetus” — on a hospital form. They changed the form to read “20-week-old baby.”
Karen Santorum, a former nurse, wrote letters to her son during and after her pregnancy…

I wonder if Albert Pujols is the “private donor” – he loves him some jesus, and my man just signed a 10 year/ 260 Million dollar contract…..to hit a ball!! WOW.

  6. FreddyV says:

    I have no words…..

If bullshit was music, Bachmann would be Ella Fitzgerald.

  7. seafoid says:

Bachman is Tea Party Taliban and hasn’t a hope in hell of being elected. Moving the US embassy to West Jerusalem will do nothing for Amerkin jabs.

  8. pabelmont says:

Swell. Let’s follow this up. Ambassador wants to live in J’lem? East or West? If West, great. terrific.

Now, as to the embassy itself (to which the ambassador must commute from his residence in J’lem). For 64 years, even West Jerusalem has (for some reason) had UNCLEAR political status (maybe the remains of the UNGA’s “corpus separatum” idea? Maybe an idea that Israel’s take-over in 1948 was temporary, subject to negotiation, in a way that Tel Aviv was not? Who knows?

Part of J’lem is occupied territory, Ms Bachman, deary-poo. Illegal for Israel to build there. Bad idfea, very bad idea, for USA to “go there”.

    • Don’t worry . It too much thinking put on ” deary- poo” Michelle’s B head .
      West and East Jerusalem??
She probably already thinks that Jerusalem is the capital of the world , Libya lies near “the country “of Alaska, and Sarah Palin rides on reindeers to get her suntan there.

  9. American says:

I asked before —has anyone ever seen this phenomenon of Allegiance to a Foreign Country being a requirement or basis for another nation’s highest leadership office ?
I’d really like to know if this has ever happened before so we have some historical example of what the outcome might be.

I can’t find anything exactly comparable to this aberration. There are lesser examples in history of a country’s populace being on the look out for ‘treasonous attitudes or foreign influence in their rulers as in King Louis XVI’s marriage to foreigner Marie-Antoinette and several others. But no modern examples on the US-Israel scale.

    • has anyone ever seen this phenomenon of Allegiance to a Foreign Country being a requirement or basis for another nation’s highest leadership office ?…..I can’t find anything exactly comparable to this aberration.

re abberation, it’s probably more common than we imagine american. immediately what comes to mind was the candidates put forth in iraq after we invaded. i think we ix-nayed their top choice in fact and i’m sure we saw to it certain potential candidates were left out of the running (like any baath party members) . i don’t think they had to swear allegiance to the US tho, they just couldn’t kick us out or denounce us.

but i know what you mean, and i agree it seems very strange we have come to this.

She would probably move the US Capital and government to Jerusalem (and obey all orders from the Knesset), and treat US citizens as slaves working for the holy land.

    Maybe not a big change?

Watching this video made my digitus medius automatically point in a different direction from it’s neighbors. Something in my caput told me it would be ok to dig out her bulbus oculi with that digitus. She is obviously not using them or the tiny organ they are connected to with the nervus opticus anyway. I am glad she is not here because i also do not want to touch that freak.

(I would not do that, but it is not (yet) a crime to think about things like that).

    • Abraham is not my father.

      My father is Zoroaster.

        • In Yazd, at the base of the Tower of Silence, where bodies used to be set out to be returned to nature (shall we say), there is a network of ‘hospice huts’ where a dying person and his/her attendant go to await death in a respectful fashion. Families members my choose to stay in adjacent huts.
Oh — and there’s a cemetery nearby where bodies are interred just above ground level in marble vaults carved with flowing Persian calligraphy and the bird-like symbol of Zoroaster (which is found EVERYWHERE in Iran — on taxicabs, bedposts, doorways, key chains, you name it).

  12. Nevada Ned says:

Every Presidential election seasons, some U. S. politicians vow to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. After the election, this promise is quietly forgotten. Until the next election, of course.

Politicians figure: nobody much cares where the US Embassy is located, except for a few fanatics. And the fanatics in favor of moving the Embassy have more $$ and clout than those who oppose it. So they vow to move the Embassy.
But, you may way, won’t this anger the Arabs? Of course. So the Embassy doesn’t get moved after all.

This sorry charade has been going on for a couple of decades: since the 1980′s at least. As long as they don’t actually move the Embassy, this can be a perennial issue, trotted out every four years, indeed an evergreen issue: forever young!

    • I’m afraid that the “dearest poo” ,Michelle B., may actually follow her promise.
She “already secured a donor”, who ,”under her administration “, will personally move ambassador’s home from Tel a viv to Jerusalem.
She’ll skip “her Inauguration”, if needed ,to make sure that the house is moved in a proper direction.

  13. MRW says:

One, what kind of idiots in Minnesota elected this woman?
Two, she thinks Ohio is full of idiots.

  14. seafoid says:

Bachmann looks so fake. She’s too thin. Her hair is too processed. Her eyes have an emptiness. She looks like she’s had extensive cosmetic surgery. And she’s nuts.

    • She is just another pre-programmed parrot, who repeats ,what was previously fed to her.
She looks and acts like a well maintained, prepped, artificial mannequin.
Minimum emotions, studied gestures, vacuous eyes, phony smile.
      She exibits hollowness and shallowness.

  15. kma says:

you guys are being too mean to Bachmann… she’s the most entertaining candidate we’ve had since Palin.
be nice. though I do wonder – when she takes off her eyelashes at night, do they crawl around the room looking for a place to make a cocoon?

back to the real subject, PRIVATE DONORS are ALLOWED to DECIDE what the US “public” government does??? usually they have to at least LOBBY first. Bachmann thinks they can just write a check now! can we apply that to our next invasion and occupation? if the neocons and neolibs can find a private donor to invade Iran, can we then stay out of it and save a whole lot of money? can the retaliation be aimed at the donor instead of us?
