Olmert says ‘superior powers’ — U.S. Israel lobby– took him out in 2009

Olmert says American cash knocked him out of office in 2009. He spoke to Christiane Amanpour, and said his peace proposals in 2008 are what unnerved these rich Americans. He won’t name names but he means Sheldon Adelson among others, objecting to any Palestinian presence in East Jerusalem. Remember that Adelson helped found One Jerusalem after the Clinton talks, and gave hundreds of thousands to the Republican Party before the 2000 elections.

Now I’m waiting for Olmert to say what Americans don’t want to hear, that the Israel lobby hurt Jimmy Carter in 1980 and George H.W. Bush in 1992. Maybe that way American media would finally cover this large presence in our politics. Oh and then I want Olmert to complain about the dual loyalty problem of American supporters of Israel. CNN:

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said millions of dollars from the “extreme right wing” in the United States helped oust him from government and derailed a peace plan with the Palestinians.

In an exclusive interview aired Friday with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, Olmert said his attempts to make peace had been “a killer” for him as prime minister.

In 2008, Olmert sought a “full comprehensive peace between us and the Palestinians” – a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders. But the plan was never realized and Olmert was forced from office accused of corruption, which he denies.

“It was a killer for me, not only because of the opposition in Israel. I think that, by the way, in Israel, the majority of the Israelis would have supported my plan, had it come for elections,” Olmert said.

“But I had to fight against superior powers, including millions and millions of dollars that were transferred from this country (the United States) by figures which were from the extreme right wing that were aimed to topple me as prime minister of Israel. There is no question about it.”

Pressed to name names, Olmert replied: “Next time.”

Oh and how do you like this for Israeli negotiations:

He said he hoped his successor, Netanyahu, would adopt his peace proposal – which included the division of Jerusalem, which both Israelis and Palestinians claim as their capital – but that so far this had not happened.

“The fact is that we don’t negotiate with the Palestinians. And the fact is that we have not proposed anything,” he said.

Israel’s ex-PM blames U.S. for Palestine talks collapse

Speaking at the sidelines of this week’s Jerusalem Post Conference in New York on Sunday, Olmert said his peace plan would have been accepted by the Israeli public, but was hampered by radical elements in the Jewish diaspora. “I had to fight against superior powers,” he said, “including millions and millions of dollars that were transferred from this country by figures from the extreme right wing.”

Olmert added that figures “wanted to prevent the government, led by me, from achieving peace on the basis of principles I outlined.”

The former Prime Minister said that his political career was killed by his attempt at peace-making, but added that he pursued his course for the good of the nation. “I paid personally, dearly, but there was no other option for me but to do what I did,” he said.

At the Jerusalem Post Conference panel discussion on Sunday, Olmert defended PA President Mahmoud Abbas for not accepting the peace deal that Olmert himself offered the Palestinians during his tenure. “the Palestinians did not say no to my peace plan,” adding that Israeli ministers advised the PA president not to accept the plan, JPost reported.

that about says it all

Olmert presumably didn’t want to bomb gaza with white phosphorous either. He must have been forced into it. He didn’t want to spend so much Israeli tax shekels on YESHA but he was forced to do it.

Israel doesn’t do accountability.

Olmert wasted 4 years that Israel will never be able to find its back to.

Fascinating, and very telling. So these billionaires and manipulators aren’t only selling out American interests, but even Israeli ones, such is their fundamentalist zealot frame of mind. And of course messianic fantasists and lunatics like Baby Yahoo only encourage them. What an alliance of deluded and dangerous fools – the most alarming aspect of which is how easily the US media unquestioningly kowtow to these fanatics, never questioning them, as do the legions of spineless Congress men and women, who appear incapable of judging what is not only in the US interest, but also the Israeli interest.
