Apartheid? Don’t be silly

From Scott Roth’s twitter feed: “I took this two weeks ago [in the West Bank]. Apartheid? Don’t be silly!” Area A makes up 3 percent of the West Bank. Israelis can come and go anywhere else they please elsewhere in the military-occupied territory.

This doesn’t have that great of effect visually. The apartheid in Palestine primarily consists of the residency and movement restrictions imposed upon Palestinians not those imposed upon Israelis. It would be like seeing a sign in South Africa stating, “Territory of Transkei Ahead. No Entry for Whites. Entry Illegal by South African Law.” The few restrictions on the Herrenvolk really are not what makes apartheid in either case offensive. It is the massive restrictions on the lives of the indigenous majority that is offensive.

    • Really? You don’t think it’s stunning that Jewish Israelis can roam freely in 97% of the Palestinians own land, while being restricted only from entering the 3% PA-controlled ghetto?

The generosity of the Zionists: “You Pals can have exclusive rights to aaaall of Area ‘A.’ We could have taken the whole land (easily!) — G-d gave every dunam to us, you know — but we are such good guys… really, we’re too giving (it’s our greatest weakness). Anyway… you’re welcome. Just don’t let us catch you outside of Area ‘A,’ or it’ll be no more Mr. Nice Guy!

There is no entry for the Israelis to Area A. Perhaps you would like to rephrase the post.

    • THOSE signs are put there, by the ISRAELIS. it is ISRAELI law. [i am fairly confident]

but i will tell you that i have *personally* been in area A with dozens of ISRAELIS, many times. the PA is fine with israelis going into area A.

BTW, if you are not a zionists fanatic schizophrenic bully/scared at the same time, you TOO can go to area A all you want. you can even go have beers with palestinians, refugees, and internationals…. at the AIC cafe. i promise you…. you will find israelis there as well at almost every event ;) just don’t tell the shin bet. well…. they know.

were it then middle of the 2nd intifada, it would make sense- to avoid hostage situations. now it is largely a psychological thing, as is the wall (which is also a land grab, is entirely porous, and is crossed easily DAILY by dozens if not HUNDREDS of palestinians.

grow up… and figure out how israeli apartheid REALLY functions.

You are absolutely right. The prohibition against Israelis entering Area A is a matter of Israeli law. Where it is enforced by the Palestinian police (e.g. at the entrance to Jericho – site of the only Palestinian checkpoint), it is by Israeli request.

  3. Actually, not. I assume you consider the entire west bank occupied territory that should not be entered by civilians. Thus this sign located by Area A is only wrong insofar as it is not located at the edge of 67 israel, in which case you would find nothing wrong with it.

    • ha ha…
no palestine would have a border, and decide who enters, like any sovereign nation. they would, of course, accept all israelis that were going there for trade, tourism, or whatnot. as it is, israelis and palestinians do business on the shared roads all the time, ARAB israelis are always going into area A, and the FEW awesome peace activists are also going into area A with regularity.

BTW, israel also has a (uniquely undefined) border. and they do not allow any palestinians in, unless they have a permit. sometimes they do not even allow US nationals and others in, when they intend to go to bethlehem/OPT…. (flytilla?).

further i know two dual “nationals”, PA passport, and canada/other. when they try to fly into tel aviv, the fascist zionist state just can’t stand the fact that they are one of the occupied unwanted less than humans…. and they deport them. then when they fly to jordan, and cross from jordan, the effed up israeli fascist “state” charges them a fee to cross into their occupied homeland, while getting harassed as well….

aside from israel not really having a defined border, this is how nations generally operate…. having discretion about who comes in. but as i stated above, i am fairly confident the SIGN and the LAW is an ISRAELI law. and if it is a PA law, they openly do not enforce it. at all.

in fact, the shin bet works with israel, and when the israeli thugs want to go into area A, they coordinate with the PA. the PA police oddly disappear, just before the israeli “incursion”, and they nab some nonviolent peace activist, or the “threatening” persona of the day.

    • Basilio says:

Yonah, this sign is not for barring Israelis based on the will of Palestinians. It’s a safety measure. Obviously, in the 1960s, if you walked into certain black neighborhoods when whites were oppressing black people in the U.S., you were taking a risk, and sometimes there’s still a risk. There are many no go areas even for Arab-Israelis in Israel as you know. And also Israel doesn’t want Israelis going in those areas. However, as you know, certain Israelis who are friends of the Palestinians regularly enter those areas. I’m sure you know it, and as far as having the sign at the 1967 lines, that would unacceptable, but this sign exists in a context of an Israel not accepting politically such a state because of Israel’s leadership, so it’s a red herring type of comment, I’m afraid. Palestinians can’t go pretty much anywhere in what was historical Palestine, so it’s laughable to point to this. In the vast majority of the land of up to 78% they can’t go there pretty much.

Is is just me or with this E1 East Jerusalem grab did everybody just see Israel officially commit to the One State?

Israel is ALL IN – this is has tremendously clarified and organized the battlefield for the rest of the Anti-Apartheid world

    • Bumblebye says:

      No.
Israeli politicians are committed to the Bantustan solution, and probably believe they can still achieve that.

      • gingershot says:

Does it count that everybody else sees this, besides the Israeli politicians?

Can we steal a step and get out in front of these madmen if we know it and they don’t?

        I’m hoping….

Arab israeli is a nonsense . There are just 2 classifications that matter in terms of rights. Jew and Palestinian.

    • piotr says:

I would not insist on that. Egyptians are both Egyptians and Arabs, and so are Syrians and Palestinians (members of a larger and a smaller class simultaneously). And of course there are Armenians (google: spit at Armenian).

      • seafoid says:

Egyptians are not Arabs. They are Nile Valley people.

        Americans aren’t English either.

        • RoHa says:

          “Egyptians are not Arabs”

It depends on the definition of “Arab”. By the usual definition (Arabic as first language) they are. But that doesn’t stop them from being Egyptians.

          “Americans aren’t English either.”

“English” doesn’t mean “English, or something vaguely resembling it, as first language”.

        • seafoid says:

The Jewish state always has the same language order , regardless of location in Erez Israel. Hebrew first, Arabic second.

Trash culture. What is it that makes them think they are superior ?

  6. Kathleen says:

Where else would the international community tolerate this. Can you imagine Rachel Maddow’s rage if signs like this were put up focused on the LGBT community. She would be all over the story. So tired of human rights phonies like Maddow

  7. piotr says:

I guess Scott did not try what would happen if he took a bus to Ariel and use his cell phone to talk in Arabic.

An Israeli student from Tel Aviv did just that. An Arab-speaking girl enrolled in the college that is in Ariel, but when on the bus to this settlement town she was overheard by fellow passengers speaking in Arabic, the security removed her from the bus and she did not reach the school. Israeli journalists were informed that the behavior of the security was correct.

It was much more puzzling when a group of Israeli and international girls dressed in a combination of Palestinian female folk dresses and Arab head scarfs and walk on the infamous Hebron street that is closed to Arabs. Soldiers forcibly pushed the girls into Area A. A Palestinian who helped the girls to borrow the dresses got arrested. Irritating the local military commander is a crime in the Territories.

the media can keep the American public in the dark all they wish but soon the International community will hold the US and their Zionist friends accountable for the countless monstrosities they have committed. the US foreign policy is a joke. and The Zionist State and all those who support it will soon end. Truth will always prevail over falsehood. that why AIPAC works so hard to keep news of Jews in America who oppose that illegal state out of the media, and the mainstream Presstitues conform willingly
