The Israeli press reported two separate disturbing incidents in which a large group of Jewish youths attacked defenseless Palestinians.   Both incidents may have been fueled by alcohol and connected to Purim holiday celebrations.

A street cleaner named, Hassan Usraf, told police he was brutally beaten by about 20 young Jewish men while working early Sunday morning in Tel Aviv.  The victim suffered multiple facial cuts, skull fractures and an eye injury as a result of the attack.  He is in a hospital in serious condition awaiting eye surgery.  Usraf’s wife reported that the youths told her husband that the reason for the assault was that, “He was an Arab.”  No suspects have been apprehended.  Usraf described his assailants as drunk.  The police surmised that the youths had been participating in Purim celebrations during the evening.

On Monday afternoon, a Palestinian woman was attacked by a group of young Jewish female religious students at a railroad station in Jerusalem, according to an eyewitness.  Dorit Dotan, who photographed the incident, said that the victim was repeatedly pushed and that her head covering was pulled off.  According to Dotan, a railroad security guard watched the incident smiling and did nothing to intervene.  There were about 100 people at the station who also passively watched, she said.   Dotan also said that the attackers had “drunk much wine because of Purim.”  The assailants boarded a train, leaving a stunned and angry victim and her elderly Palestinian companion at the station.  Further details about what led to the altercation or the identity of those involved are not known.  The police have opened an investigation,  although no complaint has been reported.

Ahmed Tibi, a leading Israeli-Palestinian member of the Knesset, said, relating specifically to the railway station attack, “The recent increase in attacks against Arabs is a symptom of a racist and intolerant society.  We are not speaking about drunks, but of racist thugs that the police must arrest and bring to justice.”

Just like the IDF in the OT when the settler lunatics harass and assault Palestinian men, women, and children.

This hate is so ingrained into Israelis.

There’s a story covered by 972+ about a Palestinian student who was kidnapped by Israeli soldiers from Hebrew Univ. or something. The student is an activist and is being held without charges (as usual).

The response from a Jewish commentator was to sarcastically say, ‘boo hoo, it’s as bad as Treblinka’ or something.

So it’s nothing for us ‘Leftists’/’Arab lovers’ to worry about since it’s not the Holocaust.

Total absurd non sequitur that only hysterical ethnic nationalists espouse because they are so mentally handicapped/incapable of honest discourse.

“This hate is so ingrained into Israelis”

I attended Israel’s largest Purim Festival in Holon.
I neither saw alcohol consumption nor any violence directed at anyone.

Perhaps there was no Arab to beat.

Obsidian, your statement is a non-sequitur. Am not defending blanket statements, but just because you were at the “largest Purim Festival in Holon” where there were no Non-Jewish Arabs, nor Christians, nor Muslims, means nothing.

As the saying goes, just because I filled a bucket from the sea and did not find a fish does not mean there are no fish in the sea.

Fear and ignorance of the other is ingrained and cultivated in Israel and more and more in the US, as Americans are being Israelified.

Creating fear and a common enemy is a way to unite and control a population. Tragically, hate results from the fear and ignorance that is actively cultivated in Israeli society. (But this does not mean all Israelis fall for it.)

How else can the Zionist and militaristic gig keep going without fear and at the very least disdain of the other.

I attended the Adeloyada – the largest Purim parade in Israel which is held in Holon. This family event is very well organized and policed. I was minding my family and the costumes and I wasn’t looking to see who was Arab or Jew.

Again. The biggest Purim celebration in Israel had no alcohol or violence.
          That’s what I saw.

Holon is not far from Jaffa with it’s Arab population.

I attended other Purim parades in Israel this year and witnessed not alcohol or violence directed at any0ne.

Here are updates on the two incidents.

130 protesters (apparently mostly Jewish) urged police to expedite their investigation into the attack on Hasan Usraf.

A police officer was dismissed after he wrote on Facebook, referring to the victim in the railway station attack, “Too bad the Arab whore did not die.”

Pictures of the attack in Jerusalem and of Hassan Ushraf in the hospital are at the source links at the end of the article.

“The assailant was soon joined by others in the attack while several passengers and passersby looked on in indifference and did not intervene – including a security officer employed by the Jerusalem municipality. ”

Reminds me of a bible story-

But there are no good Samaritans in Israel any more. The Jews who live in Samaria (and Judea) are all nuts. And many are wicked.

Ira Glunts – Did you read this on your link?

“…police officer who posted racist remarks on his Facebook page regarding the alleged attack of an Arab woman in Jerusalem on Monday, will be discharged and return to the IDF…”

So he’s OK acting under another uniform and more heavily armed.

      >> A police officer was dismissed …

…and will return to the IDF:

“A police officer made racist remarks that do not honor the Israel Police and do not honor citizens. We currently notified that the officer’s police service will be terminated and he will return to the IDF,” said Danino.

Too racist, supremacist, hateful and/or immoral for the local police force? The IDF wants you!

      This explains a lot…

That’s painfully true. Israel officially abuses the West Bank Palestinians worse than Israeli Palestinians.

…and, infuriatingly, is being sent into the IDF. Wonderful state. Too racist for the police? Put him in the army, to oppress his victims with heavy weapons.

14 very disturbing photographs of the attack at the Kiryat Moshe railway station from the Facebook page of eyewitness, Dorit Jordan Dotan, who photographed the incident.

Click on the small photo of the incident on the left hand side.

The attackers are apparently students at a nearby religious school, so it should not be too difficult for the police to identify them. I hope that the victim or her companion will come forward and make a formal complaint.

These attacks are racially motivated crimes which must be diligently pursued by the police. These young thugs must be held accountable for there deeds. If they are not, it will only encourage more racism in a society already plagued by an institutional hatred an the Palestinians.

      Disgusting.

And to think of that f***ing stupid Golda Meir quote only compounds the feeling of disgust at those cowards and the security guy snickering all along.

If it were still socially acceptable for a ‘White’ nation to exterminate its unwanted minority, Israel would certainly do away with the Israeli Arabs and Palestinians.

Day by day, the mask is slipping from the face of ‘the Middle East’s only democracy’. How long can the hasbarists try to convince us that these ever more frequent incidents are the work of ‘bad apples’ and do not reflect Israeli society as a whole? Can you imagine if a group of Palestinians grabbed a Jewish womand and tried to pull off her wig? It would be all over the Western media, and there’d be no excuses about ‘drunkenness’ or ‘high feelings’.

MY COMMENT: This reminds me a bit of a Purim photo I saw on an Israeli blog several years ago. The photo was of three individuals on a city street (Tel Aviv, I think) dressed in their Purim costumes and proudly ‘aping’ for the camera. The three were attired in pristine, white KKK regalia with their faces fully covered excepting holes for their eyes. Their robes were even adorned with ornate cross patches that looked to me like the official KKK insignia.

P.S. ALSO SEE “Dear Congress: What the Purim video reveals about the racism embedded in the Israeli state structure”, by Scott McConnell, Mondoweiss, 3/12/10
This is about a ninety second video of Israeli settlers holding a Purim Party in East Jerusalem. In it, the settlers are singing a song of praise for Baruch Goldstein, the American born Jewish doctor who shot and killed twenty-nine Palestinian worshipers in Hebron in 1994.
“Dr. Goldstein, Dr. Goldstein” their song goes, “Everybody loves you.”
