Video: On 3rd anniversary of ‘Mavi Marmara’ attack, witnesses return to the boat

A powerful 20-minute video published Friday, on the 3rd anniversary of Israel’s attack on the Mavi Marmara: crew-members, passengers, journalists, humanitarians of the Freedom Flotilla, returned to the ship to recount what they witnessed and experienced. Some of their recollections, their voices, interspersed with live footage for that fateful night–even feelings of guilt for not doing more– are  heartbreaking. While others, relating riveting events, are very precise and matter of fact. Each with their own voice, voices that convince the viewer more than ever, there needs to be a real investigation.

Sarah Colborne, an English leader of Palestinian solidarity, says, at 18:45:

Many people think that they can do nothing, that their governments control the policy and they can do nothing to end the siege on Gaza. What we did on the Mavi Marmara was show to the world that if we work together as a group and we are dedicated we can make a difference, we can change history, we can break the siege on Gaza. But our work didn’t finish when the Mavi Marmara was attacked. Our work continues now because the siege continues and because Palestine is still not free and so what the Mavi Marmara starterd, we, as the whole world, as all concerned citizens who support peace and justice, we have to finish that work that  the Mavi Marmara started and we have to be organizing the next flotilla and the next until the siege is broken and Palestine is free. Because it’s not just a question of Gaza it’s a question of all of Palestine and all Palestinians that need peace and justice.

And still they ask, (Zionists) “Why do they hate us”.

You gotta ask, you brainless morons.

I thought the Gaza Cafe moment was sublime.

[EXCERPT] . . . So, …the question boils down to this: Can we engage the multitude in civil society initiatives to end the Israeli occupation of Palestine . . . ?
A compelling effort to do this is a project called Gaza’s Ark.
Gaza’s Ark is a logical next step to follow the Gaza freedom flotillas, and some of the folks who helped organize previous flotillas are helping to put it in place. Unlike the flotillas, Gaza’s Ark isn’t going to sail into Gaza. It’s going to sail out from Gaza, carrying Palestinian exports. . .
. . . Gaza’s Ark is starting a campaign to support Gaza’s economy by encouraging people to buy Gaza’s exports: “trade not aid,” as they say. It’s a “procott.” Don’t support the blockade? Put your money where your mouth is.
I claim that by supporting Gaza’s Ark, you can support a civil society initiative to oppose the occupation without giving up any evenings. Put your money where your mouth is. Buy Palestinian goods from Gaza. If the Israeli government tries to stop you, then they’re interfering with your commerce.

Oh Annie.

I can’t stop the tears. They are all so very special– they are multicultural peace activists. This video shows the terrorist IOF during one of their many nadirs. Mr. Obama must call for an immediate and long overdue thorough investigation and truth commission that is wholly transparent. No more shielding of the criminal actions of the Israeli government and their henchmen/women aka the IOF.

(David Rovics song is haunting and replete with truth)

@- Annie Robbins,

Q: Many people think that they can do nothing, that their governments control the policy and they can do nothing to end the siege on Gaza.

R: Although being a [generally] very positively spirited person myself, when it comes to Palestine/Gaza/WB/OT in general, I have to admit that, over the years, I’ve grown/become rather skeptical wrt ‘us’, the people’s power to stop the Apartheid State in committing its heinous crimes against the oppressed, indigenous population.

Is this the reason why we can’t have it both ways? Danish prophet jokes are cool, but not when it’s about our tribe?

Annie, do you know why certain MW members are shielded from verifiable facts that prove their blatant hypocrisy [email me so I can prove it, please]?

In North Korea all the news that’s presented to the outside world comes with a stamp of approval of the ‘Great Leader.’ Having thought about it, what’s the difference between Kim’s policies and Mondoweiss’?

Hamas, the embodiment of peace. If there was ever anyone who deserved support from others because of their non-violent struggle and willingness to accept others who are different to them, it is Hamas.
