Video: Make Seltzer, Not Settlements — Boycott SodaStream

Over the past few years we have suggested some home carbonation alternatives to SodaStream that aren’t produced in illegal Israeli settlements (yes, there are some).

Mondoweiss reader Bill Haywood has done one better and produced the video above with his family showing a truly DIY method of carbonating your beverages at home (turn up the volume be sure to check out the refrigerator decoration) . Time to get Scarlett Johansson a 10 pound tank of CO2!

Haywood sent this comment along with the video:

The jobs of 500 Palestinian workers at Sodastream are real consideration in the boycott, but there are 2.5 million other Palestinians in the West Bank to consider. Arab employees also cannot live near the factory where they work because it is located in the Ma’ale Adumim Israeli settlement.

Here are some links to the supplies mentioned in the video:

I don’t like soda anyways. It rots your teeth and gives you ulcers. I was never in any danger of repressing Palestinian rights this way.

Always worth reminding people that if (like me) you bought a SodaStream machine before you were aware of the company’s “evil fides” there are a number of vendors selling conversion kits online so that even though you’re stuck with the razor you never have to give them another dime for the blades.

I bought a kit that lets you use regular paintball cartridges for refills online from a firm called criticalpaintball.com and there are plenty of other solutions.

Plus now, instead of being a conversation-starter for inane chatter about tonic water, it’s been “subverted” to give me an excuse to shill for BDS and against apartheid.

Now it just needs a “no more Blood Bubbles” sticker.

So much fuss about a soda company? And Israel should tremble because of an article on that in the FT, which has been hostile to Israel ever since. Looks bizarre to me.

Fogetabout CO2! Nitrous Oxide (N2O) is the way to go.

SERIOUSLY THOUGH: Just kidding about the Nitrous Oxide. I’ve never experienced it, and it can apparently be quite dangerous.
Despite having grown up in the birthplace of Coca-Cola, I gave up carbonated beverages years ago. I don’t miss them at all.

Good job Bill Haywood!
