As Israel’s assault on Gaza winds up its fourth murderous week, demonstrators across the United States – from Washington, DC, to Austin, TX – continue to take to the streets in protest. In recent weeks, new rallies and marches have been held in Boston, New York City, Washington, Austin, Oakland, Columbus, OH, and elsewhere.

Amidst all the horrific news from Gaza, one encouraging development has been the depth, breadth, and persistence of mass opposition to the Israeli onslaught. Annie Robbins is regularly updating her extraordinary compilation of images of marches and rallies from around the world. This post focuses on actions in the U.S. in recent days. We will continue to update this one, too, so please send images or links about other actions, large or small, to henrynorr@gmail.com.
First, the San Francisco Bay Area: On Saturday, for the second time in six days, thousands took over Market Street, San Francisco’s main business boulevard, in a giant march, then headed to the San Francisco Chronicle to protest its pro-Israel coverage, then to a Victoria’s Secret outlet, which sells bras made in Israel from Palestinian cotton. Meanwhile, queer activists also staged a separate action in the Castro district, and others demonstrated outside a fundraiser for Rep. Barbara Lee, who styles herself a “renegade for peace and justice,” but continues to vote to send billions of dollars every year to support the Israeil military.

On Sunday and last Thursday, July 24, separate rallies took place across the bay in Oakland, and on Friday activists staged a vigil and die-in at the Sunnyvale, CA, facilities of Lockheed-Martin, which makes the F-16 fighter-bombers and Apache helicopters that slaughter Palestinians.
The San Francisco march was organized by the Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC), American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), and the ANSWER Coalition. Young Palestinian-Americans and other Arab-Americans, including numerous young women, played a leading role.
More excellent pictures of the San Francisco march, by Leah Mills of the San Francisco Chronicle, are posted here.
(For Bay Area readers: the picket of Israeli ships at the Port of Oakland, originally scheduled for this coming Saturday, has been postponed – new date to be announced soon.)
Meanwhile, activists and other people of good will continue to mobilize elsewhere around the US. Alex Kane documented a rally and march in New York City here, and here’s video coverage from Reuters:

On Tuesday, July 29, more than 75 people, led by scholar and activist Norman Finkelstein, blocked traffic in front of the Israeli consulate in Manhattan; about 25, including Finkelstein, were arrested.
In Chicago, where an enormous protest march took place on July 20, another big one occurred on Saturday, July 26.
The Chicago Sun-times has an extensive gallery of other images from the July 25 Chicago action here.
Other actions have taken place in recent days in Iowa City, IA; Durham, NC; Atlanta, GA; Washington, DC; Los Angeles, CA; Philadelphia, PA; Houston, TX; and Seattle, WA.

Thanks to Kate Raphael, Annie Robbins, and all who participated in these actions and took these images.
Henry, we stole your line. Let Gaza Live.

Something to ‘celebrate’ amidst the ruins.
Thank you.
Philly too! Every Friday.
Zionist might try to use the protests by provoking unruly, illegal,or criminal activities and then blame the protesters. I won’t be surprised if something of that nature is reported in US or in Europe to win propaganda value of such an incident,to turn local people against these protests and then get the municipals or states or country to ban them all together. Netanhu will take advantage of any such developments and thwart any attempt to force Israel for honest negotiations.
We should not forget that the war was based on false reason and was carried out despite full awareness on the part of Israeli authorities. There was a reason . Israel did not want any reconciliation ,or any removal of current blockade . It will do anything to achieve that goal.
Any word from Obama yet? Or has he secretly sold his balls to Clinton/Clinton, for his reelection.
