Arieh Lebowitz, of Meretz/USA, who gives me lots of info and links, sends me a correction. I said that hechsher is Yiddish for Kosher, Arieh says it’s not, it’s Hebrew. (I was trying to sound smarter than I am. I heard a rabbi using the word last summer, and thus became a know-it-all).
Arieh tells me she got the word from someone else: “I received [the correction] from a good friend in Israel, active in the Israeli peace movement since he made aliya / moved there in the mid-1960s.”

I hope not too many American Jews "make aliya", but when they do, so much better to join the peace movement than become settler thugs. When I was there last year, we met the exec director of B'tselem, a pretty big deal human rights organization. She was a thirty- something American, with three young kids. That to me was an appealing thing about Israel– because of its small size I imagine, it's possible for a woman to have a lot of young kids and a career, very rare in America. My uninformed guess is that this is cause of its village- like size, relatives near by, everyone knows everyone else's business–something unlikely in large modern state.

Scott, it seems to me that there are a lot of appealing things about Israel, including what you have just mentioned. That's why I find it so hard to understand why Israeli leaders would take such chances with the country, as they're doing now.
This actually proves my point. Any Jew who has any semblance on knowledge about basic Judaism would know what a hechsher is. Phil is Jewish, kind of by accident of birth, and thats it. He trades on it to write a blog that would be very comfortable on al-manar

Presumably the person who is posting fairly well known biographical material about Buchanan, Taki, etc., is attempting to trade on the notion that if a Jew is not a zionist, then he is required to be an anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-statist, nihilist incendiary, seeing no value in any non-Jewish views except as instances of barbarism.

Personally, I feel little nostalgia for all-white societies, but it shouldn't be difficult to see that every time a Jew defines the disappearance of 'the Jewish People' by 'assimilation' (intermarriage) as a Bad Thing, he is opening the door for white USians to say the same thing – that they want to retain their ethnic distinction, not get assimilated out of existence.
The argument is no more malignant when whites say it than when Jews say it.
However, for that very reason, right wing zionists like the kachists are trying to bribe or otherwise control such white anti asdsimilationist currents, since they want them as allies against Islam, the 'Brown Tide', etcetera.
None of this is cause for hysteria or even surprise.

In fact the Zionist Organizations went repeatedly out of their way in their dealings with nazi Germany to recognize her right to be hostile to multiculturalism, in order to retain the so-called "German Aryan" character of the German State. They aknowledged her right to be hostile to melting-pot ideas just as Jewish communities were, by refusing intermarriage and assimilation. At the same time, they used that as an argument for the necessity of a purely Jewish State in Palestine.
This is the very dark face of Zionism which most propagandized apologists of Israel have never been exposed to. Then they try to reconcile this "ethnically pure" nationalism that is the foundation of israel and which they refuse to grasp in its full dimensions and implications, with pretensions of idealism and democratic ideals! And while they are all for melting-pot determinism and multiculturality in the US and Europe, they defend Israel's completely opposite policies to preserve the "Jewish identity"!

I just finished reading Brenner's "51 Documents", and I am infuriated that he includes as two of his documents the two parts of the meretricious pseudo confession by Adolf Eichmann which found its way into LIFE Magazine on November 28, 1960.
This interview was supposedly given by Eichmann in 1955, but LIFE only published it after he was seized by the Mossad, and it stinks of contrivance, in my humble opinion.
BTW, Phil, the word "hechsher" means a certificate of kashrus ('kosherness") issued by a mashgiakh (supervisor with the authority to determine whether something is kosher or not). All these words are both Hebrew AND Yiddish, but the Yiddish pronunciation differs from modern or Sephardic Hebrew, but is similar to Ashkenazic Hebrew.
