McCain has made a genius choice. This woman is impressive, she's ordinary in a way that Joe Biden isn't, she puts Pennsylvania in play. She is in touch with ordinary Americans, with the people I spoke of last night who like redneck musicians and white athletes. And she carries herself well, with a touch of style. The commentators were saying before we met her that this makes the battle ideological. It doesn't. Palin said not a word about abortion, she named the feminist pantheon of Ferraro (whom I saw come out into the Minnesota State House 24 years ago) and HRC. Wow. This is going to be fun!

Yes, she's so in touch that she wants to impose the teaching of creationism in Alaska public schools, to "promote debate" with evolution.

She's so in touch that she's anti-choice. Oh yes, she's a Hillary Clinton kind of gal!
Phil, read Daily Kos on Palin. It's one thing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but really…

Picking her is McCain acknowledging that he doesn't have a chance.
He cut all of his arguments against Obama.
Being old, his vice-presidential choice is much more important than it is for Obama. For both, they have to pick someone that is clearly competent to serve on an administrative team, and is clearly competent to be president if something happens to the president.
A 73 year old is much more likely to have serious illness in the next four years than a 49 year old. So, McCain's vice president MUST be able to carry the ball.
Palin hasn't ever been through a national election, never made any decision or led in any way on any federal issue.
I think there is possibility that she would be opposed at the convention.
McCain can NOT make the case that he has good judgement as to actual decisions (this one), can not make the case that she is ready to be president, can not make the case that Obama panders politically.
He's just destroyed every valid argument possible. He will get in the mid 30's of voters.
Beyond that, the republicans are a dead party. They will remain a minority party for another two decades. No arguments in their favor, no prospects in the wings.
Gone.
Both Phil and I like both Palin and Biden. I think I saw pigs flying by my window today.
Phil, what have you been smoking?
"She is in touch with ordinary Americans, with the people I spoke of last night who like redneck musicians and white athletes."
That's a stupid statement, with bigotry and a racial/ethnic slur thrown in. Phil, that's why nobody should take multiculturalists, cosmopolitans or tribalists such as yourself seriously when you speak of egalitarian ideals. It's a complete joke.
Also, who gives a damn about either candidate or his veep choice? I know nothing about Palin, but I didn't know a thing about Obama two years ago, either. How is Palin any less experienced than Obama? Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were elected president as former governors of small states.
Todd and I agree. I just saw a snowball in hell. One thing though, Phil Weiss is the last guy I would call a member of the tribe. He's an apostate.
Say what you want about Sarah Palin, she's an athlete. Basketball, Moose Hunting , Sex… FIVE kids! That is one fertile family! What's in those Mooseburgers anyway? And she brings the average age of the ticket down to a mere 58! With the old white guy looking so tired and slow, there's a good chance she'll inherit the presidency. Then when that famous '3 o-clock in the morning' phone call comes… the president of the United States could very well be in labor!
Sarah Palin is a woman of the greatest human values. She does not stand for the left or right, white or black, Jew or Gentile, Democrat or Republican. She stands for all people. She stands for you, me and people like us. People who know her would agree that every mother, every father, every sister and every brother that ever lived would want to have a daughter or a sister just like her.
