Breaking the Silence is the Israeli veterans' group that took me to Hebron two years ago. Lately they took a group of British diplomats in an armoured car. The settlers attacked the car. I'm not entirely sure why this is news but I'm glad it is. These conditions have existed for many years. The settlers attack a lot of folks who come to check them out. They threw rocks at the group I was with. Still it is good that the BBC is covering the mess. Maybe even people in the States will learn about it.
To understand how primitive the U.S. is on the subject, consider the Washington Jewish Week, which has lately published an article about the critique of Arabic instruction at Harvard that appeared in The Wash. Post a few weeks back. The original article, by eminence grise Joel Pollak, was intended to stir up a David Project like mess at Harvard, but has failed. Because it was a weak argument, as even the Washington Jewish Week concedes–"I think maybe Joel read a little bit too much into it," says a classmate here.
But to my point. The Washington Jewish Week attempts to blacken Arab authors of texts used in Pollak's course as anti-Israel by quoting statements the authors made against the occupation:

violated international law with its "brutal, dehumanizing military
occupation and confiscation of Palestinian land, home demolition and
agricultural stranglehold."
by "illegally occupying through military force land that belongs to
others, the Israeli settlers and the politicians who support them are
the ones that have no peace in their vocabulary."
Let's be clear about this. The Washington Jewish Week is defending the occupation and the colonization program. Publications like this are the heart of the organized Jewish community. Thus the Zionist project destroys the American Jewish moral compass, compelling Jews here to be cheerleaders to apartheid. Some day they will teach all this in Jewish texts.

Somehow I think Jewish Week and all the other Jewish organizations that support Zionism know exactly what they are doing, and understand that Israel is the essence, the actualization of the Jewish moral compass. Many liberal Jews who grew up in 60's and 70's America drank a little too deeply of the kool aid cover stories (light unto nations, social justice, equality, human rights, Tikkun Olam, etc.) used to throw non-Jews off the scent of the true nature of organized Judaism, and are today having a hard time coming to terms with it. But organized Judaism is never going to bend to the will of a collection of disgruntled Jewish peaceniks and ex-hippies, most of whom don't really take religion seriously anyway.
Believe it or not, Christianity is far more amenable to the Jewish peacenik/hippy ethos than Judaism, just as Judaism is far more amenable to the hard-right Christian Zionist ethos than is Christianity.
Sorry to break the news, but the peace, love and hippy beans brand of American Judaism that many liberal Jews pine for was always just an illusion; Israel is the reality.
During the 19th century, German Jews, French Jews, British Jews and ethnic Ashkenazim that decide to work for universal social justice tend to abandon Judaims and to join radical communist or socialist movements.
Unlike the Pollak/al-Kitab nonsense, The Jewel of Medina/Spellberg controversy seems to be getting traction as a magnet for anti-Muslim anti-Arab and anti-Palestinian bloggers. See Muhammad's Sex Life in Print!???.

Perusal of any of a number of jewish newspapers around the country (often subsidized by jewish oligarchs) provides more explicit evidence of treason and war-mongering than Walt and Mearsheimer might have dared to evoke.
