More Gestapo Echoes from You Know Where

12-year-old Palestinian beaten and imprisoned with adults, for what–for protesting the confiscatory separation wall… Muhammad Khawajah tells the great B'tselem:

Last Thursday [11 September], around 3:00 A.M., I woke up from my
mother’s shouts
. She was shouting, “Get up! Get up! The army is here!”
My father wasn’t home that night. I got up and went out with her to the
inner courtyard of the house. There were about 12 soldiers there, and
their faces were painted black.
One soldier wore a black hat that
covered his face. He sat on the stairs outside the house and didn’t
take part. I think he was a collaborator who led them to houses.

All this for participating in demonstrations against the Wall (Illegal under the International Court of Justice)…

These weekly demonstrations are amazing, and widely admired by anti-apartheid movement.

They are met with hails of bulets and tear gas, detentions and killings of protestors.

Extra judicial detentions are a constant in the occupation landscape.

3000 shekels for bail is £505 at today's exchange rate.

It is, what?, a month's wages for a family in Nilin? They live hand to mouth, so that judge knew it was probably impossible for them to have that sort of savings.

Ah, justice…. done and seen to be done.

I deeply respect and admire BT'selem workers.

We all do. I believe Richard Witty's son has gone over to help them with their work.

    WOW,

I really didn't know that. This is really something I must admire, for to raise a child that chooses to do the right thing, even if it may cause friction in the family is no mean treat. It requires the commitment to honesty and humanitarian values of the highest order that the child takes from home.

    Indeed.

The fruit falls not far from the tree.
