Huckabee defies Obama

First we got news that Mike Huckabee planned to attend a gala at the East Jerusalem hotel that Israel seeks to build a settlement in.

J Street rightly condemned Huckabee for stirring this issue up in defiance of his president:

Governor Huckabee has continually made it clear that he does not support the two-state solution or regional peace efforts, saying he doesn’t think Israel should “give up any land” and that the “two–state solution is no solution.” He has consistently backed settlement construction and said that the Palestinians should create their own country “elsewhere.”

The Governor is entitled to hold these views and to act on them, just as we are entitled not to support him or them. But let there be no question that by choosing to visit the Shepherd Hotel, he is knowingly inflaming an already volatile situation for the cynical purpose of scoring political points with his base. That does not make him pro-Israel – it just makes him pro-Huckabee and highly irresponsible, at that.

….We hope Governor Huckabee will cease playing politics with such sensitive issues.

A few minutes ago we got Huckabee’s twitter feed from Palestine:

I’ll be in Israel this week and touring the highly disputed settlements that Obama and Hillary are trying to stop.

Jerk. Is it his base he’s trying to play to? Or is it the lobby?

From what I have seen of Huckabee, I rather doubt the charge of cynical opportunism, but rather consider it far more likely he is a firm believer in the nutjob notion that Israel’s ongoing conquest of Palestine is a necessary phase in what many absurdly believe is the path to Divine Salvation.

    • Huckster is no naive backwoods clown–anymore than Bill Clinton is.

He is a sharp, cynical politician who’s got a schtick that suits his purposes.

huckabee is a diluted individual that along with the rest that see things likewise …should be jailed at the very least. Has there been any way throught the antisemetic laws being passed that enable the terrorist aparthied regimes such as the usa and the aparthied occupational forces to get over themselves. Or are they waiting for some of the 600 malitias that are in Iraq and Afaganistan to come home and be killers here too against there own multi ethnic citizens, I wonder how they will all cope with being murderers and then try and return to their families. And if this was the other way around (with the zionist and Palestinians would it have lasted for more than a few days before the rightious usa bombed them into submission.

  2. It’s all good. I think this is what Dershowitz is worried about. Polarization. Zionism should become so closely associated with Bible Belt dittoheads that thinking people want nothing to do with it.

I just watched Huckster on FoxNews while I was on the stairmaster at my gym an hour or so ago (I had no choice; I didn’t get to choose the channel).

Huckster was making the argument that by opposing settlements Obama was advocating “segregation within the land of Israel.” No one in the panel of newsbabes or talking Ken dolls called him on the claim that the settlements are located in Israel, nor on the bs about dismantling settlements being tantamount to promoting “segregation” – ridiculous stuff. I wanted to throw my water bottle at the plasma tv screen but that would have been a bit unseemly.

I have to admit, the Huckster is a smooth politician. He may even be a bit more affable than Obama with his soft spoken, seemingly sincere, folksy charm. My hunch is that he will be the neocons fair-haired boy in 2012.

  4. AliAhmad says:

Seriously, what are those supporting the settlements planning on doing with the Palestinians?! My guess is sending them to Jordan? I also heard arguments that the more land Israel gets, the more it will be able to take in negotiations. Do they really think this is possible? I just can’t get their long-term plan.

I find one very good reason to cheer this report: Gov. Hucakabee’s honest endorsement of the idea of Greater Israel and all that goes with it. According to Huckabee, all of the West Bank *is* Israel, there should be no Palestinian state in the area, and Palestinians living there should either leave or be prepared to be second-class citizens of Israel, similar to what African Americans experienced in the United States. I disagree with this vision but I genuinely appreciate that Gov. Huckabee is not going to force me into a through the looking class conversation in which settlements aren’t a problem for the two-state solution and so forth (a la Elliott Abrams & Charles Krauthammer).

  6. gmeyers says:

    Oh boy.

Think positive though: the Huckster could have been president!

The frightening thought is that he could still become that.

  7. gmeyers says:

He has consistently backed settlement construction and said that the Palestinians should create their own country “elsewhere.”

Perhaps Huckie would be happy to reserve a piece of Holy Land II for the New Palestine? No, thought not…

What a fraud with his a crock-odile smile. I think all that weight loss and national recognition made him start to realize who will pay for his dinners in the future. I’m sure Pat Robertson was als a ‘nice’ guy before he had power.

Mike Huckabee bashes America on foreign soil by Glenn Greenwald

Apparently, insisting that Israel stop occupying and building settlements in land that doesn’t belong to it is “telling Jewish people where they should and should not live.” Every country should invoke that standard — Russia should have responded to American objections to its 2008 invasion of Georgia by insisting that the U.S. has no right to “tell Russians where they should and should not live.” It was terrible how the U.S., opposed to Saddam’s 1991 invasion of Kuwait, tried to tell Iraqis where they should and should not live. And immigration opponents in the U.S. should really stop telling Mexicans where they should and should not live.

One banner said ‘we are not pawns in your Armageddon’

(excerpt) JERUSALEM — About 100 protesters heckled former US Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee on Monday as he attended a function to support Jewish settlements in mainly Arab east Jerusalem.

Two dozen right-wing Israelis staged a counter-protest, waving huge flags and cheering Huckabee, who has been touted as a possible Republican candidate in 2012.

Huckabee was among about 100 guests, including several Israeli MPs, who attended a private function held at the former Shepherd Hotel, the site of a controversial housing project for Jewish settlers funded by US millionaire Irving Moskovitz.

Protesters chanted “go home” one of the banners they held up said: “Huckabee, we are not pawns in your Armageddon.”….

  11. Todd says:

Huckabee is running against Obama already, and his base isn’t going to get him elected–if the insinuation is that his base is Christian Zionists. Huckabee is pandering, but not to Middle America. If he were pandering to Middle America, he would come out against most forms of immigration and any amnesty for illegals, foreign spending, political and economic corruption within the U.S., Affirmative Action, multiculturalism, media corruption, offshoring, or many other issues. Instead, he’s making a stand on Israel. Is that a surprise?

  12. Gellian says:

Huckabee is a Christian lunatic, just like the Jewish lunatics who are hosting and using him. He is a fool, essentially, as are the other evangelicals who really believe that G-d promised Jewish people their very own plot of land, even if there were already people living there.

And now the story has made the top of Yahoo. Yippee.

    • Todd says:

Speaking of Jewish religious lunatics, did the American media outlets show the Orthodox rioting in Jerusalem several weeks ago over the opening of parking lots on Saturdays?

I saw the footage on Norwegian television, and figured American networks wouldn’t dare show the footage to an American audience. It’s been a good while since I’ve been in Israel, and I had almost forgotten how crazy these people look and act. In all honesty, without trying, the U.S. MSM could make these people look and sound equally as foreign and fanatical as any Islamic radical to an American audience if there were any will at all to d so. Instead all Americans get are dishonest attempts to convince us that Israelis and Americans are very similar when that isn’t the case. Judeo-Christian, yeah, right!

      • Chu says:

“almost forgotten how crazy these people look and act”
Better watch it. my antisemitism meter just dinged in at a mere 3 beeps.

-Don’t forget Judeo-Christian does not mean we can all have the same status as the chosen few. I was quite upset when I learned of this.

I have this vivid image in my mind now. Huckabee giving his little speech, his right-wing/settler fanclub nodding and smiling all the time, until he arrives at the point where he calls for “integration between Israelis and Arabs”.
Eyebows rise. Mouths open. Hands are held up in futile “Woa, dude, now wait a second…” gestures.

    • RE: the point where he calls for “integration between Israelis and Arabs”

MY COMMENT: Yes, that would most certainly be “a bridge too far” for his right-wing/settler fan club!

I am refering to these types of government officials whom blindly are mislead. These types of people should be banned from any position in government and this ——–
is a prime example of who the government needs to be dismantled here and abroad and every person locked up whom is oposed to any peaceful realistic stance for either the victims (palestinians) and the agressors the rest of them. However this goes for the so called elite in the pa and the traders whom should be exiled out forever along with everyone in their families. Reparations must be given and justice not matter how old the people are need to be jailed. I also read somewhere that the Iranians have allowed the committee that over sees the nuke facilities ( two) which will put a damper in the october 2-11 plan of the aparthied occupation forces to do in Iran. The other that was read is that there are already certain groups whom have the bomb or at least the electro magnatic ones that could put us all in jeopardy, even though with the 2.5 % in the global warming trend which this government or any other is way beyond any control of mother nature will inevitibally (spelling bad) have something even far worse in store for the planet…we are all pretty much screwed anyway you slice it.
especially after hearing huckabee and others blatenly stick the shoe all the way in their own mouths. Imagine how will we survive the global warming which is at our door step and not going to shift for the better unless the world as a whole puts forth an effort. Phil do you have any educated input for me today or does anyone have a plan for this end. It seems if the misinformation and lies don’t kill humanity the global warming will surely do the rest.
