Washington Institute for Near East Policy, offspring thinktank of AIPAC, says that it was "established to advance a balanced and realistic understanding of American interests in the Middle East.” It just had a panel about Obama’s record on the Middle East. The verdict (reported by Ori Nir)? All three panelists said Obama was a failure, beginning with Mortimer Zuckerman, panjandrum of the Israel lobby, who said Obama "doesn’t know how to play the game." Verdict shared by Jackson Diehl,of the Washington Post–who said that Gaza was a big "win" for Israel– a massacre, the greatest pr disaster in the country’s history. And by Michael Mandelbaum, who supported the Iraq disaster, saying, "Most Iraqis want for their country more or less what Americans want…"

That’s Washington, DC for you. No level of abject failure is too precipitous or catastrophic that it can’t be rewarded.
Was the following information known to many on here?
Israel planned the Gaza attack as early as 2007, just months after its failure in southern Lebanon:
link to lrb.co.uk
It was considered necessary to “restore Israel’s deterrence”.
I presume this is the same conference:
link to cbsnews.com
describes a panel that was unanimous in its support for bombing Iran. The argument for how this would happen is that Israel should take the initiative by flying over Iraq and once the bombs are falling the US would no choice but to join them. A retired USAF general made this argument. Insane.
Who cares what these guys think about Obama shmobama.
Why do you give them voice, Mondoweiss?
We already know they’re out there doing their ungroovy hazbara thing on a Saturday night. We already know what they would say and it’s so tedious to have to keep reading about it over and over and over again.
Wouldn’t it be livelier if we could hear from newer sources/younger voices coming NOT JUST out of DC and Tel Aviv but other parts of the world?
Like I’d like to know what the Inuit youth think about the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. What about out in Mongolia, Peru, Iceland, the Gabon or whatever!
I mean isn’t that what the internet is about? I mean do we live in a global cyber village or a fish bowl?
I mean to say, and pardon my indulgence, please, Mondoweiss, please spare us the tedium of Zuckerman and his inconsequential brigade. All these people are old and dotty and stuck in the ass-crack of the twentieth century. 1942 to be more precise.
Surely life is way too short to spend another moment on hazbara robots like Zuckerman et al.
Taxi, I understand your sentiment, but the Inuit and the Peruvians dont change the direction in DC, and Hasbara was not designed for their foreign policy: it was designed to infiltrate and corrupt ours. The louts mentioned in Phil’s piece pontificate, then their smoke signals go out to bucked-up donors who learn what they are supposed to believe, and parrot.
Zuckerman is the editor-in-chief of US News & World Report. He has a lot of clout, hardly “inconsequential.” It gets him on a lot of morning shows. I find him insufferable and cranky. He seethes with rage about Obama because Obama isn’t doing what Zuckie wants. [Apologies to Mooser for not remembering what number ”You Zuck!“ is.] He is an Israel-Firster. Period.
There’s lots of info on the net about what “newer sources/younger voices” are thinking in overseas pubs and media. And older voices as well, since they have the wealth of history of what led up to the current situation. As that runaway nation contemplates bombing Iran ,or least going to war with it in some way — recent rumors are the Israelis are now going to attempt a ground operation against the Iranian Army in January — it is imperative that the traitorous voices calling for it here get recorded in ink and stone. Because they are calling for World War III to doom the USA, and they must be stopped.
Zuckerman, like all hazbara robots I’ve come across, are stuck in the 1940′s and think they’re still fighting the 3rd Reich in the middle east.
All it means that Zuckerman owns this newspaper and that, is that his delusions are published and publicized. So he’s a publisher, so what?! I mean we’re talking the NY Daily here for petesakes! Not exactly a ‘ground-shifting’ journalistic institution.
Nah, this man is in-love with the sound of his own whine.
Till hasbara is re-edited and updated into 21st century ‘realities’, ie the Palestinians REALLY DO EXIST AND THERE IS A DOCUMENTED NAKBA (more and more people know this thanks to the internet), zios like Zuckerman have pip-squeak effect on ‘actual’ developments on the ground or on ‘global’ thinking.
In other words, ‘the mouse wants you to think it’s an elephant’ routine.
That’s Mr. Zuckerman for you.
Zuckerman is also a regular on that awful McLaughlin Report show on TV – which provides entertainment on the nights that Pat Buchanan is also on.
Zuckerman also owns the NY Daily News.
This the usual propaganda tactics of AIPAC to push Obama to toe-in to Israel’s in the Middle East, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Don’t forget, the Israeli media not long ago boasted that it were Jews who put Obama in the White House. Almost every member of Obama administration had to receive AIPAC blessings before being taking the oath to the office. The Obama administration is infested with members from various Zionist/Jewish think tanks – largest being from CFR (close to 400). AIPAC and other pro-Israel Jewish groups (AJC, ADL, etc.) have record of meddling in the both parties for the interests of Zionist-regime.
Only if the Yankees understand

I don’t always agree with what Rehmat posts but I have to side with him on this one — the Obama administration even shut out progressives almost entirely in the interests of making room for AIPACers.
The result, unsurprisingly, is an adminstration that bends over backwards for Israel but couldn’t give a flying copulation about any American citizen.
For once Americans should decide for ourselves what American interests are.
Looks like the usual Zionist provocateurs are behind terrorism in Iran, hoping for a response that could be used to rationalize military intervention:
Iran: US, Britain, Pakistan linked to militants
link to news.yahoo.com
One thing I’ve learned is, whatever Israel shouts that anybody else is doing, you can count on the actuality being that they are the ones doing it to the people they accuse. We saw that with Palestinian human shields, and we’re seeing it with terrorism networks going through Iran — the actual direction is always the reverse of what Israel says.
A very effective fable, the wolf in sheep’s clothing accuses the real sheep of wearing
a disguise, and the wool is pulled over the onlooker’s eyes. Goldstone who? Just a self-hating Jew.

What’s especially troubling about Zuckerman is that he not only has his own old media outlets but he now has a platform at HuffPo where he also pretends to be an American offering an objective analysis of the Mideast. People think it’s alternative media but it’s just the same old hasbara recycled for a hipper audience.
You’re right. HuffPo used to be somewhere worth reading but of late Ms. Huffington sold out, big time. Which will ultimately be a stupid move because she’s going to end up on the wrong side of the calls for war with Iran. And then the Post is going to become just another example of faulty American corporate media, instead of the “counter-culture” alternative it aspired to be.
Of course, and Zuckerman will land on his feet while Ariana is thrown under the bus. Life as a shabbos goy is not without its risks.
Doesn’t that mean a nuclear Iran could be deterred?
