Meet another Israeli settler being supported by the IRS, for now

Thanks to the Palestine Note for posting the above video. It is an interview from Israeli television with Rabbi Dov Wolpe, the head of "The Task Force to Save the Nation and the Land" an organization which gives money to Israeli soldiers to refuse orders to evacuate settlers from the occupied territories.

The Forward recently did an expose on Wolpe and his work, pointing out that he is raising tax deductible funds in the US, and may be breaking US law in the process. The Forward:

Wolpe presented the money to the two soldiers in an elaborate ceremony that took place at Jerusalem’s Finjan restaurant. At the time, Wolpe had told the press that the money was the gift of an anonymous American donor. Though the source of these particular funds is unclear, what is not in dispute — by even Wolpe himself — is that he has been misrepresenting the nature of his organization to the Internal Revenue Service, claiming that it is a religious institution when it is little more than a post office box, a ruse that allows him to maintain tax-exempt status.

Ironically, Wolpe might not be brought down because of the racism and hatred displayed in the interview above, but because he is registered as a "church" in the US and doesn't meet the legal requirement. Sorta like getting Al Capone on tax evasion. It's also interesting to note that the Rabbi's "gift" for Obama at the end of the piece echoes the same language the Hebron Fund's Executive Director Yossi Baumol used in defending their recent New York fundraiser.

    “Democracy.”
    “Until a certain point.”
    “What does that mean?”
“Just like what Professor Asa Kasher says: ‘Democracy until it infringes upon the freedom of the individual.’”

Yeah. Jewish AND democratic. Now that’s anti-democratic hate speech you never see MEMRI bother translating and putting out there for the American media to notice, huh.

How can any rational one on earth defend this bunch of racists shit? Yonira and Witty, do you share his ideas? Mooser and OhioJoes?

  3. It’s All AIPAC of Lies
    By Jim Traficant

American Israel Public Affairs Committee—AIPAC. The single most powerful lobby in the world. So powerful that Washington politicians
carefully weigh each and every vote they cast based on the approval of this lobby.

Yes, a foreign lobby has that much clout, power and control over American leaders and thus, the American people. AIPAC has become so overpowering that they have risen above government investigations and mainstream media scrutiny. So powerful that the following statement was NEVER reported in America’s newspapers, magazines, or electronic media:

Every time we do something you tell me that America will do this and America will do that. I want to tell you something very clear; don’t worry
about American pressure on Israel. We, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it.

You may think that maybe that statement was made by an overzealous Jewish American—or—an Israeli comedian—or—an Israeli talk show host. Maybe. Just maybe! No, that was no comment made at an Israeli barbershop or an Israeli wedding—no maybes about it! That comment was made by the then Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon. Yes, the prime minister of Israel! The head of state—Israel’s leader.

Think about it.You may not have even heard this statement or read about it were it not for AFP. In fact, this may be the very first time you’ve come to learn of this statement—December 2009.

The power of AIPAC is so evident that the mainstream media of the USA hid it from your eyes and ears. Yes, you should be upset—really mad—because that statement was made October 3, 2001—more than 8 years ago. Eight years ago you didn’t even know that a foreign leader announced, on an Israeli radio show no less, that “We, the Jewish people, control America.”

And it didn’t stop there—consider the far-reaching ramifications of the remainder of that statement: “And the Americans know it.”

What Americans? Do you know it? Do your neighbors know it? Who are these Americans who know it?

The video is interesting because we can see better the real face of the Nazisrael regime. Its far different from the crying and victimisation scenes we used to see.

In a civilized country, this guy would be going up on trial for the crimes he openly advocates and funds. Instead, in Israel, he’s a celebrated personality who struts the talk show circuit while Palestinians who lead non-violent protest movements get thrown into prison without trial indefinitely.

    • Chu says:

This guy desregards Palestinians at the start, they don’t exist to him. They could be Canadians, he wouldn’t care. They’re on his Land ( since God told him so).
Can’t the international court of law take the US to trial for supporting the crimes of apartheid? I suppose that would be as successful as the Goldstone report, but what will it take for the Congress to change their pro-Israel votes? That is the big Kahuna right there; changing their votes.
They need to be targeted one by one, with a force that will stand up to the Goliath, AIPAC.

Here’s what I find revealing about this:

Wolpe gets applause for claiming that Israel gets pushed around. He claims that if Israel tried to ban Arab [sic] building in Israel, the High Court would instantly act, but that banning Jewish building [sic] in the occupied Palestinian territories is acceptable.

Black is white. Up is down.

Look at Phil’s post before this one from Adam. The Knesset is considering legislation to ban Arab landowners from building. Arab towns and cities in Israel have very restricted building zones (they’re called ‘blue lines’ I believe, the area around a community that is zoned for building), one of the many ways of discriminating against Palestinian citizens of Israel. And there has not been a single Israeli administration since 1967 that has actually, concretely limited settlement building.

Two words come to mind. The first is mendacity. The second is apartheid.

    • Chaos4700 says:

And that’s putting aside the fact that, to the point of virtual exclusivity, only non-Jewish construction projects are denied permits or find themselves demolished. This is particularly evident in East Jerusalem — which fits neatly the definitions of both pogrom and ethnic cleansing.

Israel gets pushed around? I mean seriously. It’s like the bully in grade school who goes around beating up all the other kids and taking their lunch money, and then lamenting to his bobble-headed cohorts that it’s so unfair that nobody likes him and everybody persecutes him.

When’s the last time Israel did anything that represented capitulating to international pressure? The only thing I can come up with is Carter pushing them into negotiating the Camp David Accords back in the late 1970′s.

Perhaps one of the best articles written on what happens to Palestinians inside of Israel, in regard to their homes, was written by Jonathan Cook -

      SQUARING THE CIRCLE

  6. Chu says:

Who decides that it’s the land of the Jews, Rabbi? He says Bibi lowers his head one inch further, every time he comes to Washington. Really?

The US is far from the oppressor of Israeli expansion. We are the enablers of illegal settlements, and Israel wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the hard-working Zionists in America doing everything they can to build the state of Israel by appropriating billions in aid packages and weapons supplies to help people like this rabbi continue to break the international law.
When will these people be content with their border? Is there a projected map that someone has a link to, which will make these the settlers satisfied?
The occupation is supposed to be temporary, and this rabbi’s reveals the desire for more conquest. What a surprise…

Shouldn’t border matters be left to the military and state to decide the boundaries , or do settlers have power to create civil tensions on a larger state level? Are the settlers working as the agents of government policy, since the government condones it?

  7. potsherd says:

I would really like someone to confront the Congressional Black Caucus with the segregationist building law.

  8. are there any precedents in US law, based on Irish-American activism during the “time of troubles,” when Irish-Americans were prosecuted under IRS codes or any other codes, for funding ‘terrorist’ organizations?
How about applying to the Rabbi the same expropriative actions that the US State Department/Stuart Levey, is applying to Iran and Arabs/Muslims. Time to seize a US synagogue or two–maybe the one in Bethesda, MD, with the banner out front that says, “WE SUPPORT ISRAEL.”

Time to have IRS haul in UJF and scrutinize their records.

    Time to Eliot Ness Israel.

    • Chaos4700 says:

That would be great, you know, if it weren’t for the fact that the US government isn’t going to cross AIPAC and the ADL to enforce our own laws.

    • Citizen says:

As stated by the IRS, the exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and organization must be organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes set forth in that section and none of the earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual. The exempt purposes set forth in this section are charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, testing for public safety, fostering national or international amateur sport competition , and preventing cruelty to children or animals. “The term charitable is used in its generally accepted legal sense and includes relief of the poor, the distressed, or the underprivileged; advancement of religion; advancement of education or science; . . . .”
Problem is the IRS uses it’s own discretion as to whether or not any NGO’s filed paper transparency should be looked into more closely. Any NGO with any
Arab or Muslim association or connotation is gone over with an ultra fine-tooth comb; in comparison, as to any NGO associated with Israel or Jewish beneficiaries, the IRS comb has no teeth at all. Otherwise, the IRS runs the gamut, depending
on the power politics in between those two goal posts.

    • Citizen says:

Irish Americans don’t really perceive themselves as something comprising a (pre-state theory) “nation” in the biblical sense–most Jews do around the world, it appears to me.

      • Irish have taken assimilation seriously. For Jews assimilation is a cover for the strategy of crypsis: they pose as just another white ethnicity while attacking from within. Think about it: when Susan Sontag said the white race is the cancer of humanity, was that self-criticism?

      • what I was trying to understand is whether Americans who sent (American-source) money/smuggled weapons to Irish Republican Army got in legal trouble in the US.

Occasionally the comparison of the “Irish Troubles” and I/P is made, usually when discussing George Mitchell’s efforts at solving both. Perhaps there’s another point of comparison — attack miscreants legally through IRS.

  9. Citizen says:

In the video the Rabbi asks, Is Israel a banana republic that we would let Obama and the rest of the world tell us not to grow? He thinks Israel is kowtowing to the Gentile world and not visa versa. And as for the Palestinians, the good Rabbi does not recognize their existence. Ergo, since they don’t exist, only an anti-semite would try to stop Israel from growing. That’s my summary of the Rabbi’s stance.

I wonder if the Rabbi would go along with cutting off all foreign aid to Israel just to be
sure veiled Gentile bribery doesn’t undermine his stance?

BTW , cancer cells like to grow too.

  10. MRW says:

American taxpayers support racist shit like this? If only they knew. This rabbi is a piece of human garbage. Period.
