Detained American journalist Jared Malsin leaving Israel under suspicious circumstances

Detained American journalist Jared Malsin is leaving Israel and heading back to Prague where his ordeal with the Israeli government began over eight days ago. Based on the update below there are clearly many questions that still need to be answered in this case, but in the meantime here is the latest from Ma’an:

At 11:30am on Tuesday, Tel Aviv District Judge Kobi Vardi called for a hearing into the deportation against Ma’an journalist Jared Malsin. Following the call, Ma’an lawyer Castro Daoud went to the airport holding facility where Jared has been kept for the past week to give him the news.

Daoud left Jared at 2:30pm and filed a motion with Justice Vardi requesting that Jared be able to leave the country and have the hearings proceed in his absence. Since the Israeli Attorney General’s Office insisted Malsin not be present for his hearing, Daoud argued that it was no longer necessary to keep Malsin cooped up in the airport cell.

At 4:30pm staff from the US Embassy in Tel Aviv notified Malsin’s parents in New Hampshire that he would be on the next flight to Prague, even though Justice Vardi had not ruled on Daoud’s motion to let him travel and still pursue the case.

At 7:30pm Daoud received notification from Justice Vardi that he had received a motion signed by Malsin requesting his deportation order be annulled, and that he be allowed to take the next flight back to Prague.

Justice Vardi has closed the case on Malsin’s deportation order one week after it was filed.

Malsin’s parents have been denied phone access to their son, and US consular staff were unable to communicate when the journalist would board a flight.

Ma’an is concerned that there was no lawyer present when Malsin reportedly filed this independent motion, sent from the Israeli Ministry of the Interior and not his legal representative. Ma’an is equally concerned at the inability of Malsin’s parents or girlfriend to reach him to communicate the situation or get clarification from Malsin as to what happened between 2:30 and 4:30pm on Tuesday.

Is the reader to conclude that the US embassy somehow learned of his imprisonment and decided to act?

Regardless, this case simply substantiates the fact that Israel is a rogue state.

Let’s see….On one side of the scale say, for example, we have a guy from France or Argentina, and on the other side of the scale we have an American citizen who works for a respected news agency in the occupied territories and from time to time writes articles which are critical of Israel’s policies.

Yet, that guy from France is granted citizenship and incentives virtually the minute he steps off the plane, simply for being a Jew. And the guy who hasn’t committed any violent crimes or incited to violence is thrown in a jail cell, incommunicado for a week and then deported for no reason whatsoever?

The only democracy in the Middle East indeed.

Perhaps Quentin Tarantino could make a movie based on this story called “Feking Basturds”.

Right of return for Jews is slowly morphing into the right of return for Zionists.

    • edwin says:

Of course. Who is and who is not a member of the chosen is crucial for any theocracy.

When it was important for there to be as many Jews as possible, then a Jew was anyone who Hitler considered a Jew. Now, when the number of Jews are becoming vocal critics of gods glorious gift to his chosen, then a smaller number of faithful is required. Heretics need not apply.

Indeed, we know what must be done to heretics.

      • Mooser says:

Eggs-ackly, edwin. And that has been evident in the comments from Zionist-supporters. The criteria for Jewishness is how much one supports Zionism.
I might mention how much certain Christians love this. At last, they have a criteria for judging a person’s Jewishness. I can’t tell you how many times Gentiles have told me I can’t be a “good Jew” or a “real Jew” because I don’t support Zionism, and Zionism is all they know about Jews.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who contacted the White House, Senate, and House reps
in behalf Malsin–gee, could that have made a difference? And yes, Eva, it seems so regarding slowly morphing…

You were the one who set him free. Congrats. Combining this success with the great work in the Gaza Freedom March should make you progressives feel very good.
I hope “Holocaust Surviver” Hedy Epstein (who survived the Holocaust in England) didn’t miss too many meals due to her hunger strike. I’m sure the Egyptian authorities are devastated that she is missing a few meals. Maybe after they bury their murdered Police Officer they will give her a medal.

Can someone put a copy of Defamation up on www.onebigtorrent.org? It’s available by free download everywhere but the United States, where it is censored. Thanks in advance.

The “morphing” is not merely policies for return, but the entire structure of swiftly becoming a police state. You could say it is already a fascist state in part, and just like the “Arab” counterpart Israel likes to rag on, there is no discernible difference. If you take a look at policies in Egypt toward dissent you find the same and sometimes worse policies in vogue in Israel. Neither can take criticism because they are patently wrong in the activity.

    • Mooser says:

Gosh, VR, a thought just occurred to me: How long before groups of less-favored Jews in Israel start applying for political asylum in the US? Not everybody in Israel has dual citizenship, you know.

      • VR says:

Actually this is already occurring Mooser, without the political asylum angle. There is quite a little community of “refugees” from Israel in the California area already. The real brain power is draining, people will just not put up with this forever, the road has been traveled before –

        REPEAT

        • Mooser says:

Gosh, if I were an Israeli, middle-class or better, why on earth would I want to do anything but serve in the IDF, and defend Israel through it’s murderous outbursts. Why, I couldn’t imagine a better future for myself anywhere! What could be more satisfying in life than living for and maybe dying for the Wittys and Baron Rosens?
And gosh, I can’t think of anything more conducive to maturity and mental stability than being told, from childhood on u[p, that the whole world hates you, and you should hate them.
Oh, the future looks so bright in Israel!

Of course, if somebody drew on my notebook, I’d run straight to the chabadniks, too.

        • Mooser says:

Not to mention the fact that Judaism has, over the past 2000 years, shown itself to be an absolutely failure-proof form of political organisation. I mean, I couldn’t even begin to count the number of sucessful political situations managed by “Jewish leaders”. Nobody else can manage a ghetto like them.

        • VR says:

If I were an Israeli I would stop with the nonsense, in at least my own neighborhood (the OT) and the surrounding area, of continually repeating “they hate us.” Because some day someone might ask, why do they hate you? The complete complicity and mental bloc (ignoring) that has to go into “not knowing” the atrocities being committed is going to eventually shut off the rest of the brain.

Their repeated line about “they hate us because we are Jews” at this juncture, would be like some college professor getting up and saying “the early indigenous people hated the colonists because they were Protestant Christians” – the result would be getting laughed out of the classroom and the regents looking at your credentials. It is a complete disconnect from reality, we bomb them – why do they hate us? We steal their homes – why do they hate us? We are in the process of a slow genocide – why do they hate us? Because we are Jewish, that’s why…idiotic.

        • Mooser says:

It’s very sad, you don’t know the burden of Jewishness! Condemned by one’s own religion to do things which make people hate you!
Yes, and what an advertisement for Judaism to the new generation coming up! “Gee Dad, I’ve already been Bar Mitzvah, when do I get to do something real, something grown-up for the Jews?”
What does Daddy do then, give him a list of settlements which need more “muscle”?

        • Citizen says:

How many Americans are still convinced “they hate us” because they are just jealous and resent our freedom, liberty, life style and all the stuff you can buy on a credit card? And, oh yeah, those Islamofascists are instructed to hate us by their
holy scriptures and text books too. Nothing like being set up by your own government to be wage slaves and cannon fodder. Israel takes it to a higher level.

Who can prove they are not anti-semitic? Mooser says he can’t even convince gentile acquaintances he’s a real Jew.

          He ain’t making that up.

        • Mooser says:

Anyway, I’m so glad the Zionists like Witty and Baron Rosen (who are in complete agreement on the principles of Zionism, of course) hold the Jewish religion and culture sacred, and would never profane it or twist it for material and political gain! I know, I know, they do it! The Gentiles do it!
Which means, of course, we should do it, too.

More than anything else, even more than their racism and bigotry, the Zionist’s hatred of Judaism is painfully evident. As a Zionist once said to me “For 2000 years we let G-d tell us what to do, and look what happened. Now, Zionists will tell Him what to do!”

        • Mooser says:

          “He ain’t making that up.”

          Really? How do you know?

        • Citizen says:

Maybe I was just projecting from what I know about most of the gentiles I know who know nothing about Jews at all, or Judaism, except a few punch lines from
Fox News Hannity and the like regarding “our special relationship with Israel”
which “shares our values” and “the Holocaust.” Then again, Mooser, how do you know anything about me?

And maybe I make things up same as you, like a funny-looking paper airplane; then let it fly and watch the results.

        • Mooser says:

“And maybe I make things up same as you, like a funny-looking paper airplane; then let it fly and watch the results.”

          Can’t argue with that.
