‘Amnesty International’ contradicts Benny Morris

During my debate with Benny Morris, he stated:

We know that during the campaign in Gaza…, the bulk of the Hamas leadership hid in the basement of one of the hospitals in Gaza, and did so knowing that Israel would not attack the hospital and get to them….And Israel did not attack that hospital, as it did not attack any hospital in Gaza.

Amnesty International just issued its annual global report for 2010. Here’s what it had to say:

Israeli forces attacked hospitals, medical staff and ambulances as well as humanitarian facilities….At least 15 of the 27 hospitals in Gaza were damaged, some extensively….Amnesty International found no evidence that Hamas or armed groups used hospitals as hiding places or to carry out attacks, and the Israeli authorities did not provide evidence to substantiate such allegations.

It is also worth quoting what Amnesty had to say about Israel’s use of white phosphorus, which reaches a temperature of 1500 degrees Fahrenheit, during the Gaza massacre:

White phosphorus was repeatedly fired indiscriminately over densely populated residential areas, killing and wounding civilians and destroying civilian property. … On 4 January Sa’adallah Matar Abu Halima and four of his children were killed in a white phosphorus attack on their home in the Sayafa area in north-west Gaza. His wife Sabah was seriously burned and told Amnesty International that she had watched her baby girl Shahed melt in her arms. Soon after the attack Israeli soldiers shot dead at close range cousins Matar and Muhammad Abu Halima as they tried to take their burned relatives to [a] hospital.
