Emily Henochowicz is the irrepressible young American artist who lost her left eye to the Israeli border police when they fired a tear gas grenade at her head during a pro-flotilla demonstration at Qalandiya crossing on May 31. Above is her photo of her new wooden glasses, which she says she doodled on.
(The late Israeli warrior and Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan, per Wikipedia, also lost his left eye, and wrote in his autobiography that he was "ready to make any effort and stand any suffering, if only I could get rid of my black eye patch. The attention it drew was intolerable to me. I preferred to shut myself up at home, doing anything, rather than encounter the reactions of people wherever I went.")
