Sarah Silverman is promoting her book Bedwetter as part of a Jewish book festival at the American Jewish University in Los Angeles. Birthright, the program that sends American Jewish kids to Israel for free, is piggybacking on the event, and has apparently made a deal with the university to sell a block of seats for it.
Birthright is a heavily-funded Zionist program with two goals: 1, because western Jews now grow up with less and less of a connection to Israel, but the connection to the Diaspora is all that sustains Israel, this connection must be created by any means possible, including this 10-day junket program for wide-eyed people under 26. It often backfires, but it also does succeed; 2, many of the Jews on the trip end up having romances with one another or better yet, with Israeli soldiers whose bases they visit, and this tends to lower the frightful intermarriage rate in the west.

After watching her once or twice, her shtick gets old fast, and what’s left? Is her series show still on the air? It was horrible. Mmmmmm–here’s what one
self-proclaimed hip Jew thinks the questions is: /2009/06/25/not-a-fan-of-sarah-silverman/
Note his take on what Jewish culture (as distinct from Jewish religion) is.
Perhaps THIS not-a-fan-of-sarah-silverman/. From this I get the idea that those of us not raised in a certain sort of Jewish immersion had more interesting conversations at the dinner table (remember the days when everybody ate dinner together at a dinner table?).
Wow, you see who appears next on the schedule? Naomi Ragen is a pretty hard-core right-winger when it comes to the settlements and peace negotiations. I used to subscribe to her email list years ago and it was pretty scary.
Palestinians, not Jews, are the birthright people of Palestine. Unless, that is, a fictional writings of unknow authorship is to trump real evidence of ownership, such as deeds, house keys and family trees (google Dajani family tree) that reach back at least a millenium and contain several thousand names. Young Jewish-Americans who accept the Birthright organization’s offer of a free trip to the settler-state Israel need to know that they’ll be trespassing on someone else’s (the Palestinian’s) land, and that if they decide to immigrate there, they could be drafted into the settler-state’s army of occupation, with all the uncertainties and dangers that actual combat entails. Apprised of said risks how many young Jewish-Americans will give up the good life they enjoy here in America?
For those young Jewish-Americans who may be fed up with the inequalites and inustices here in America and mistakingly believe that somehow the settler-state will offer them a more meaningful life, consider this – that’s exactly what the Eastern Europeans thought last century when they went to Palestine, and look how that’s turned out. Considering the antisemitism that they faced back then, what else might they have done? Given the all to the anti-fascist movement, that’s what (as many Jews and non-Jews did) and prevented the fascist takeover of Europe. Translated to the present, this means staying here, taking on and defeating fascism, U.S. style, and going on to building a nation that’s actually of, for and by the people. In other words being the most that one can be.
Sarah Silverman? Par for the course.
Sarah Silverman is a talentless, hideous, Gen-X skank who has hogged way too much media time already – that she would ally her jewishness to the right-wing faction in any way is no surprise
on birthright:
many of the Jews on the trip end up having romances with one another or better yet, with Israeli soldiers whose bases they visit, and this tends to lower the frightful intermarriage rate in the west.
yeesh. sounds suspiciously similar to the ‘lebensborn’ program, hooking up aryan co-eds with german soldiers.
ah, silverman, another example of the flawless mechanism that is the meritocracy in america. honestly, with the millions clamoring to be in the media spotlight, is there is no one more talented/funnier than her?
