Butler and Greyson to talk boycott in NY tonight at 6

Judith Butler, who has a great piece in the latest LRB on the use by Israel of a portion of Kafka’s papers to seek to cement Jewish nationalism’s presence in the Middle East, will be speaking tonight alongside John Greyson, the filmmaker who triggered the Toronto Declaration of two years ago. Art and action. The forum will focus on boycott and queer activism, will be staged in the basement of the Judson Memorial Church on Washington Square Park, and will be moderated by Jasbir Puar, professor of Women’s & Gender Studies at Rutgers University. From the notice, at Adalah-NY:

John Greyson and Judith Butler will consider new forms of activism in support of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, focusing on both the cultural and academic boycott and the importance of queer BDS activism in Palestine and elsewhere. They will discuss not only the reasons for supporting BDS, but the new forms of anti-Occupation activism in the media, popular culture, the academy, and other domains of public life. “How Now BDS” will center on how BDS is done now, and what must still be done.
