Amazing. Neoconservative Washington Post blogger Jennifer Rubin blames the Norwegian horror on jihadists, and Jim Fallows nails her. Rubin:
We don't know if al Qaeda was directly responsible for today's events, but in all likelihood the attack was launched by part of the jihadist hydra.
She says we need to keep funding the war on terror and drags Gary Schmitt of American Enterprise Institute into it. He says: "But as the attack in Oslo reminds us, there are plenty of al-Qaeda allies still operating. No doubt cutting the head off a snake is important; the problem is, we're dealing with global nest of snakes."
Fallows:
SevenSeventeen hours after the Post item went up,sixsixteen hours after its claims were shown to be false and hysterical, it's still there, with no correction or apology.
Steve Clemons also weighs in on Rubin's "fearmongering."
Perhaps you should link the extremist violence from right wing fanatics, Christian religious zealots within our countries -- within the US, within Norway, and elsewhere -- to your pet causes. Would at least be more technically correct.

Mainstream American media has become a clearinghouse for pro-Israel, anti-liberalism, anti-Muslim hatred and propaganda.
Lie,lie, lie……it never ends.
Since Norway is not among the most Israel friendly countries you could just well lay it off on a Israeli false flag attack to gin up AQ terror again.
Well … one the leading newspaper (letemps.ch) in Switzerland also ran a story where the main suspect was some sort of a mollah and an obscure jihad organisation. Of course most of the story was written using conditional tense. Not one single source was mentioned.
I am looking forward to seeing how they will treat the news next Monday … I have the feeling that I could almost paraphrase Chaos by changing only one word …
Tele Suisse Romande is worse !
Oh la la.
I met a crowd of Christian Zionists in Lausanne last year. Odious.
Of course Jennifer Rubin would say that. I don’t know why they even publish her nonsense. She remind me of Caroline Glick
Will McCants, a blogger who claims to be a “Senior Adviser for Countering Violent Extremism at the U.S. Department of State” was the ‘official’ to pin the blame on Islam. His blog is very Israel-centric btw. He claimed that a group called “Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami” or the “Helpers of the Global Jihad” an Al Qaeda proxy took responsibility. This made it into the MSM. A previously unknown group that today they are saying was made up. Obviously this wasn’t the CIA claiming this, but I would hope they don’t jump on garbage intelligence. Oh wait they do, that’s why we went to war with Iraq.
Another person saying this yesterday was another ‘terrorist expert’ in France, Claude Moniquet. He actually does have ties to Israel:

There is almost no corrections today to these stories. Today some are saying Jihad hasn’t been ruled out even. The horrible comments haven’t been deleted. Look at this “American Thinker” story:
link to americanthinker.com
It was updated with only a message saying ‘See also: The blond, blue-eyed terror suspect in Oslo’ and the comments say it’s still relevant.
CNN had comments calling for the killing of Muslims and Arabs, outlawing Islam, probably some of the worst hate I have ever seen. It was even worse over at ynet and Jpost. In addition to the anti-Islam rhetoric they were saying how Norway deserved it. CNN even had an op-ed saying that this will teach Norway a lesson for being soft on Islamic terror.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD?!
Here are some facts that people do not know of. Nearly 25% of the world’s population practices Islam. Only 20% of these Muslims are Arabs. 10-20% of Arabs are not Muslim. 10% of Palestinians are Christian. The majority of the Christian Palestinian population in Israel was expelled in 1948. Turbans and burqas originate in the ME and are not just an Islamic thing. Look at old photos of Yemen Jews. Many non-Muslims wear this. It is a product of that culture incorporated into the religion (depending on who you ask). China has a Muslim areas with Chinese mosques that resemble traditional Chinese architecture. Extremists exist in all religions.
China, Africa, Much of Asia has a Muslim population. I am now in a European Country where over 70 percent of the population is Muslim. The men do not sport beards and very few women would cover their heads. And this is not an Arab country and does not have an Arab population.
Maybe Rubin read this in the New York Times’ first article posted after the bombing:
“A terror group, Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or the Helpers of the Global Jihad, issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, according to Will McCants, a terrorism analyst at C.N.A., a research institute that studies terrorism. The message said the attack was a response to Norwegian forces’ presence in Afghanistan and to unspecified insults to the Prophet Muhammad. “
That turned out to have been something McCants had heard in an internet forum. No, really. I am not kidding.
“All the news that’s fit to print,” without credit to the internet chat page.
McCants’ source was yet another blog-post-for-drooling-Islamophobes from our friends at the SITE Intelligence Group, the thoroughly discredited operation that helpfully provided fake bin Laden tapes and videos all these years to keep the fear alive. Google it.
Jennifer Rubin is in the same vein as Caroline Glick and Melanie Phillips — high profile bloggers whose hateful neo-con spewage against Muslims is institutionalized bigotry. Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, Daniel Pipes, David Horowitz and even Marty Peretz (who just came out of bigotry retirement) all provided the type of shrill hatred that was the rocket fuel for the Breivik massacre.
Rubin is not even intellectually honest enough to apologize. The weasel words in her non-apology were appalling. In yet another outrage, Rubes suggests that the blond-haired, blued-eyed assassin actually proves her contention that the national security budget should remain intact to protect aganist the “threat” of jihad. link to washingtonpost.com
By contrast, Melanie “Mad Mel” Phillips was finally fired from The Spectator in June after a particularly egregious, high pitched screed against Muslims. Doesn’t seem likely that Fred Hiatt will expunge this hateblog from the TrashPo any time soon. It’s yet another reason why no one trusts the paper in any way, shape or form.
A particularly loathsome Australian pundit immediately posted his informed view that it was the work of ‘Jihadists’ of course when it became clear that was not true he still managed to blame ‘immigration’ (his dog whistle for Muslims) in Norway.
Which Australian pundit are you referring to?
Would that pundit be Tim Blair by any chance?
Not this time; it would be the egregious Andrew Bolt. Unless Blair said the same thing.

Bolt is a one man freak show who serves little purpose other than to play the vilage idiot on Q&A.
Yep Andrew Bolt. Didn’t expect him to eat crow exactly but to continue to insist Muslims still shouldered blame was (I think though admittedly I try to avoid his bile) a new low. Thankfully I’m not in Australia right now, I suspect no-one in the media there is particularly covering themselves in glory over this one.
JPost seemed to like his spin though, they regurgitate it in this hideous piece.

Rubin is a shameless liar and propagandist, who has turned her blog into a Israeli PR aparatus as well as a GOP campaign platform.
As we have become painfully aware, being a neocon means never having to admit you are wrong.
A lot of the damage was done by Will McCants of C.N.A. on his Jihadica blog. His tweeting of an unproven post quickly translated and widely disseminated simply because it pointed to “Islamists” was utterly irresponsible. By the time he retracted most MSM was not interested in picking up the correction. Jihadica Jumps the Gun on Islamist links
