Accusing Obama of ‘appeasement,’ Romney says he’d travel to Israel on first trip as president

Romney's speech to the Republican Jewish Coalition today, released two hours ago:

Internationally, President Obama has adopted an appeasement strategy. Appeasement betrays a lack of faith in America, in American strength, and in America's future....

He has visited Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Iraq. He even offered to meet with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Yet in three years, he has not found it in his interest to visit Israel, our ally, our friend, the sole Middle East nation that fully shares our values, the nation in President Truman's words, that is an ―embodiment of the great ideals of our civilization.
No, over the past three years, President Obama has instead chastened Israel. In his inaugural address to the United Nations, the President chastised Israel, but said little about the thousands of Hamas rockets raining into its skies. He’s publicly proposed that Israel adopt indefensible borders. He’s insulted its Prime Minister. And he’s been timid and weak in the face of the existential threat of a nuclear Iran.
These actions have emboldened Palestinian hard-liners who now are poised to form a unity government with terrorist Hamas and feel they can bypass Israel at the bargaining table. President Obama has immeasurably set back the prospect of peace in the Middle East.
As President, my policies will be very different. I will travel to Israel on my first foreign trip. I will reaffirm as a vital national interest Israel’s existence as a Jewish state. I want the world to know that the bonds between Israel and the United States are unshakable. I want every country in the region that harbors aggressive designs against Israel to understand that their ambition is futile and that pursuing it will cost them dearly.

And Israelis tell him, “Stay home!”

Israelis have a lot of practice at spotting slimeball politicians. They have enough of their own, they don’t want ours.

  2. powzon says:

Saying “Appeasement!” brings in campaign ziodollars?
Isn’t he rich enough not to have to lie and cheat for a lesser-paying job?
    What a smile.

  3. pabelmont says:

Madly and cravenly tugging his forelock and promising to crawl on his belly, while licking the dust, to Israel — and while begging for a crumb from the rich table of the AIPAC billionaires, Republican candidate Romney accuses Obama of appeasement. Meanwhile, Obama folks deliberately rub Isrfel the wrong way, while asking Israel to “shape up.”

Who is appeasing? Who shares whose values?

  4. seafoid says:

“President Obama has adopted an appeasement strategy. Appeasement betrays a lack of faith in America, in American strength, and in America’s future…”.

The Tea Party are going to destroy Mitt. There is nothing he can say that will sate them. Just like there is nothing Obama can say that will sate the Zionists.

I have just kicked my computer screen in, what a slime, this guy would sell his own grandmother, these craven US pols, if they only had one neck.

I have a very serious question, AND I MEAN serious.
Maybe somebody will answer me that. Is this guy- with a big, fake teeth smile- applying for the position of the US President , or, is he applying for the position of the President ( Prime Minister or Big Kahuna) of the State of Israel???
I’ver never heard that Israel and the US are the same.
Did they form some kind of a Union, Federation that I’m now aware of.
I seriously think that he mixed up something. He should resign from presidential race ASAP. He is a danger for the USA. I hope people will see that.

The US does not even have a mutual defense treaty with Israel. What we do have are a bunch of MOAs (memorandum of agreement) that promise Israel we will defend it whenever it says it is in danger; these MOAs are totally one sided. Few people even know about them. Everything about our special relation with Israel is dirty, underhanded, and stinks to high heaven. If only Dick and Jane knew a fraction if it all.

  7. piotr says:

It will be interesting. It is possible that guys like Mitt (which means, everybody but Ron Paul) will make Ron Paul popular.

Ron Paul has some crazy libertarian idea. All other GOP candidates pretend to be as crazy on issues like economy. But on foreign policy they pretend to be insane, while Paul, well, is sane. Apart from morality and justice, not huge selling points for GOP electorate, do we need

    a) a war that would require 3 times larger resources than Iraq (at most optimistic calculations), which is basically 3 times more that USA can put in the field

    b) gasoline cost doubling and economy diving.

And if Israel does not like it and wants to “do it alone”, why can’t we live her alone? In other words, by all means, provoke world economic crisis and make a regional war, but handle it alone. No cash, not protective vetos, no resupplies. If Israel is an ally and a smaller ally than USA, then the position of Mitt that we should ask Israel what to do is a bit weird. Also, he said that USA should not ask anyone what to do. When he was asked another question, not about Israel.

I suspect that some GOP voters will find it weird, to say the least, and they will vote for Paul, and the rest will be split between Romney, who is a phony with a history of flip-flopping, Gingrich who is a phony with a history of histerics (cannibals!), Bachman who is like a less pretty copy of Palin (she would close embassy in Tehran, good call!) etc.

Aggression, oppression, theft, colonization, destruction, murder, terrorism, ethnic cleansing (“currently not necessary”) and a religion-supremacist state are part of American values? It’s no wonder no other Middle Eastern nation “fully shares” them!

  9. Caught lying and manipulating !!!!
The neocons tube ,aka FoxNews , showed today a short video about “violent protests” ,that supposedly took place in Moscow yesterday. It shows angry youth fighting with a police, fires, destructions etc. It turns out that the first 20 something seconds of the video. ( the one with fires and fights) is NOT from Russia, but it is from GREECE.
The video was preapred in a such sneaky way, that the first 20+ seconds are really from protests in Greece, after that the fairly peaceful protests from Russia are shown. What a scam!!!
Here is this fradulent FOX NEWS video.
It is on you tube now ,since Fox’s website removed the video already.
    link to youtube.com
Here is an article about it ,and photo, which shows National Greek Bank in about 19 sec of the video , plus people protesting are dressed rather lightly. Russian winters are rather tough.
Napoleon’s army could not take it, Hilter’s army could not take it either.

  10. Charon says:

When will American politicians stop hinging their platform on Israel? Romney and Gingrich are announcing to the world that they bow to an overseas master above the will of the American people. Not surprising, but for Americans it should start sending warning signs. Dispensationalism is on its last legs and Christian fundaMENTALism might as well live on Mars.

Americans care about themselves first and foremost. These politicians putting their faith in Apartheid Soviet Israel (USSI) are killing their own campaigns. Israel is finished. Zionism is dead. Americans are still asleep but they are out for the blood of those who have ruined our economy. A step in the right direction. Nobody cares about Israel except Zionist Israelis. They are on their own, all aboard a sinking ship.

  11. Duscany says:

I simply can’t understand who these guys think they’re impressing when they act like Israel is far more important to voters than the citizens of Ohio, Pennsylvania or Michigan. Do they really think working class Americans without jobs care more about Israel’s security needs than America’s need for jobs, for a functional economy, for a future for our children? Apparently they do.

  12. Citizen says:

Michele Bachmann just told the RJC crowd that she’s secured a promise from a donor to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, per POLITICO’s Juana Summers:

“I also want you to know it will be on Inauguration Day under my administration that the United States will move our Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,” she said. “I already have secured from a donor who said they will personally pay for the ambassador’s home to be moved from Tel Aviv to Jersualem.”

It will be interesting to see just how far these GOP contenders will go in their public effort to outdo each other for AIPAC-orchestrated campaign dollars, votes, mainstream media massage–and how far Obama will go to prove he’s been Israel’s best buddy all along. In great contrast, Ron Paul says he’d cut foreign aid across the board, a true Tea Party stance and one that should have some bipartisan bite in light of the fact 20% of US kids are on school meal programs that are on the chopping block. Also interesting that Ron Paul’s take on foreign policy is viewed as a dangerous fantasy when it is actually the only one that is fact-based and historically valid, and it is not “isolationist”but rather considers both our economic situation and our classic but now rusty balance of powers directive, and as well, Washington’s Farewell Address and Ike’s too.

  13. Michelle Buchman is another senaky weasel, with a big , phony smile using fake teeth.
She tries to present herself as a nice, reasonable, down to earth person.
She is using her pro-life stance to gain voices of people, who are also strictly pro-life.
She is another wolf in disguise. Very dangerous one. Sold her soul to rich billioners who, from behind the scenes, control the political and the wordly scene.
Jerusalem?? That’s very interesting? Why?? What for? Who is the private donor that cares so much about placing the US embassy in Jerusalem?
Does this ,very rich ,private donor ,also pays Michelle B expenses, including her underwear??

Christian fundies always have a big problem with mental integrity–they think that’s the Devil whispering in their ears. Some make great sales folks as they easily glide into selling themselves first, and after closing the sale, moving on to the next sale sans introspection, which they think they do when they pray.

  14. Kathleen says:

Phil all did you see hear Chris Matthews last night he hammered on what the use of the loaded word “appeasement” means when used in reference to Israel.

He also had Republican Strategist Bradshaw on along with David Corn. She kept repeating that the Obama adminstration had not been supportive of Israel. Corn and Matthews kept asking her for specific examples of the lack of support.

Chris Matthews and David Corn did not object or correct her when she repeated the debunked and endlessly repeated claim that Iran wants to “wipe Israel off the map” Neither one corrected or objected.

And last night “liberal” Jon”I’m just a comedian” Stewart hammered Iran again. Repeating “Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons and wants to blow up the world” bullshit again. He then went onto say that Iran might sell the downed drone information to China. Stewart must know that Israel has sold plenty of US military technology to China. Jon Stewart continues to help set the stage for an attack on Iran

    • Citizen says:

Yes, Kathleen. All of what you say and suggest is too true. Really interesting to watch how the Israel Firsters sword play with the self-handicapped American goys, a few heads in the foreign policy arena, though they constitute 98% of US demography. Caroline Glick, yet another dual citizen of Israel and USA, has just attacked folks in the American public eye that demonstrate even a shred of US First mentality–not to mention international legal and humanistic fire. Will anything ever be done about this dual loyalty? We follow Israel in so much, yet if we followed Israel in this, Israel would no longer have a racist enabler….

  15. Maybe Romney should not travel to Israel?
Maybe he should declare Israel to be his permanent residence, once he becomes the US president??
He can also declare that occasionaly, he will travel to the USA.
I mean, the country deserves to see “their” president’s face from time to time.

  16. Dan Crowther says:

Well, Obama has something to say about this “appeasement” stuff:

    link to salon.com

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is firmly rejecting Republican accusations that he has engaged in an ‘appeasement’ foreign policy. He says: “Ask Osama bin Laden

  17. seafoid says:

If 2012 isn’t the election year that Israel gets a good proper going over in the US then 2016 will be. I can only imagine what will be left of democratic institutions and womens rights in Israel in 2016. And 4 more years of the zombie economy in the US will focus minds wonderfully. But it could even happen next year.

  18. Duscany says:

Accusing Obama of ‘appeasement,’ Romney says he’d travel to Israel on first trip as president.

I’d be happy if he just traveled to Ohio or Western Pennsylvania
