‘Refusing to die quietly’: Israel invades home of Popular Committee leader Abu Husam Tamimi in Nabi Saleh

Last night, the Israeli military invaded the home of Abu Husam Tamimi, a popular resistance leader in his community of Nabi Saleh.

Last August a settler group started training attack dogs and supplying them to Jewish settlements in the West Bank ahead of the Palestinian bid for statehood at the UN. They instigated horrific violent attacks all across the West Bank . Tamimi was part of a group who launched a defense campaign dubbed “Refusing to die quietly”:

“This group was established to protect itself against attacks by settlers and the army, because we’ve decided not to sit still about ‘price tags’ any longer,” said Muhammad Hativ from the West Bank village of Bilin, near Ramallah.

According to Abu Husam Tamimi from the West Bank village of Nabi Salih, “this is all because of September.”

“The army began to train the settlers and they started to train dogs against the Palestinian demonstrations. We’re worried the settlers are going to use that to attack us, so we’ve decided to protect ourselves.”

“A temporary operations room was set up in Nabi Salah, where complaints about ‘Tag Price’ operations will be received and they will call in the unit to arrive to the location of the confrontation. If they attempt to enter the villages, our unit will be there to document it and intervene.”

On September 8th settler security officers told The Jerusalem Post  they had been “preparing for the past 10 months for September 20″ and “Those authorized to perform guard duty in Judea and Samaria are permitted to open fire against unarmed demonstrators”, if, in the guard’s opinion, it presented “an immediate and real life threatening danger”. The next day Palestinians officially launch their campaign for statehood and B’Tselem issued their report, Show of Force: Israeli Military Conduct in Weekly Demonstrations in a-Nabi Saleh documenting how Occupation Forces used excessive force, suppressed Palestinian protests and denied residents of Nabi Saleh their right to protest.

This was the climate in which “Refusing to die quietly” was launched, for the protection of Palestinian civilians.

Later that month B’Tselem The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) held a press conference  in Nabi Saleh and detailed the findings in the report to members of the media. Abu Husam Tamimi and Bashir Tamimi discussed Palestinian popular resistance.

Well done Annie. Whilst you concentrate on the minutiae you give the Palestinians a free pass.

Note the prominent picture of a Palestinian Authority official in uniform in the living room and that the 22 year old is a journalist. His offense is taking pictures of the Israelis, so they barge into his home to take video of him. He defends himself with his own video camera.
I’m surprised the IDF hasn’t officially outlawed cameras video recorders yet.

It’s like a sitcom

In this week’s episode the dumb Jewish conscripts come into the house all kitted out in their fancy dress and
speaking their freaky language

Next week Peter Beinart is the special guest in the house .
