US Embassy Tel Aviv’s twitter feed. It evidently has to do with promoting Michigan.
“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” #Michigan’s Henry Ford. goo.gl
From the Exiled:
Oy Vey, Talk About Failure! US Embassy In Tel Aviv Tweets Quotes From Notorious Anti-Semite Henry Ford
Thanks to Max Blumenthal.

Morning nitpicking routine. Who cares about those tweets in Israel or Palestine, really?
And Hitler was a vegetarian…
Yawn
that wasn’t the only henry tweet from USembassyTelAviv:

and look who else noticed:
Going forward over a massive pile of dead, injured and displaced in Iraq. Really stuck
Didn’t Ford contribute a lot to the making of America? Don’t most Americans think of him as as icon Of Americanhood?
Henry Ford sayings are getting posted at Mondoweiss as well:
‘History is bunk.’
– Henry Ford.
“History is a fable agreed upon” – Karl Popper (Jewish by grandparents)
Foxman is probably no longer particularly concerned with gentile anti-Semites (dead or alive) but with another species of ‘anti-Semites’ (alive) that pose a threat to Israel.
I mentioned one whose lecture and concert I went to last night (a funny guy and fabulous saxophone player). – Unfortunately, my comment was cancelled.
As anyone can guess, it was Gilad Atzmon I went to last night in Frankfurt.
I think the moderators don’t want an Atzmon discussion on this thread.
Let me just say that the German edition of his book ‘The Wandering Who?’ didn’t come out yet because the publisher is not satisfied with the German translation.
That bad?
(Or good that is depending on perspective)
Maybe in ten years or so, the translation will meet muster? Or is this 200 Years Together in reverse (translated & published in Germany, but not in USA)? US still does not have the great Russian’s book published in English.
I can’t find on the net the text of anything that Ford wrote except some long downloads I don’t want to do from sites I don’t know and one clippping of an article ar wiki that is too blurry to be read so I have to guess at what he said by the titles. I think his books on this must be banned in the US anyway, I saw UK book seller sites and others offering it and some used copies at nexttag but n/avail at amazon and no quotes or reviews. However I’ll go out on a limb and guess if he had attacked just Zionist instead of Jews he probably wouldn’t be considered all that anti semitic today even in some Jewish circles. I think I noticed at wiki that his writings on this were in 1920′s. Did he refer to zionist in his writing or just Jews period?
“Did he refer to zionist in his writing or just Jews period?”
Just Jews period. Henry Ford was pretty much a big-time anti-Semite.
Ford was referring to Jews in a context that was mostly specific to what he saw as Jewish financers representing international financial interests and the rising threat of communism. He also used the word ‘financer’ interchangeably at times, not sure he used the word Zionist. He would write on to say that it wasn’t the Jews in general as a people and mentioned his Jewish business partners and employees which were treated respectfully. He also condemned pogroms against Jewish people. This was long before political correctness, not trying to sound like an apologist or anything. It was a poor choice of words for sure. I doubt his critics actually read any of the material. I don’t think I’m wrong here, but I can see why others are offended. Again, poor choice of words but the criticism is blown out of proportion.
Interesting comments about Henry Ford–I’ve worked in Dearborn at his namesake company for nearly three decades. He definitely was an anti-Semite in the 1920′s and 30′s. Anti-Semitism was then near the core of American populism, which Ford fully embraced, just as Islamophobia is near the core of American populism today. I am sure if old Henry were alive today he would watching Fox News and listening to Hannity. Fortunately his namesake company and family embrace neither anti-Semitism nor Islamophobia today.
And Ford didn’t get bailed out. They produce good vehicles, especially the Mustang and 150 Truck.
Henry Ford also said some very sensible things. E.g., HENRY FORD: Why I Favor Five Days’ Work With Six Days’ Pay.
It would be very foolish to refuse to listen to music as beautiful as Wagner’s just because he was a vicious anti-Semite.
What is the point of Twitter and tweeting?
It’s a short sharp way to receive and share information, it’s also much much faster than conventional news and blogs. Also can be useful if you’re not a fan of the bigger social networking sites such as Facebook.
Like any network it becomes more useful the more nodes (contacts) you have, but because of the way people use hashtags (e.g. #palestine or #gaza or #apartheid) it’s easy to dip into the flow of tweets and starts getting links and information.
link to twitter.com
From that page search for a few hashtags and see what you get back as results. Think of anything you like and search for it and see what come back with. Check out the trending topics, by region also.
It will also make a lot more sense if you set up a twitter account, that way you can ‘follow’ other people such as @mondoweiss so that when they tweet an opinion or link it will appear on your twitter feed when you look at it.
Most conventional news sources and blogs and news-type people have twitter feeds but the real value (I think) is in providing quick access to real time events and sources. So for example during the tumultuous few weeks back in March 2011 before Mubarak was ousted the hashtag that was being used was #Jan25 (the day of the first big rally in Tahrir Square) and a lot of Egyptians were organising and uploading photos and news to twitter. So here I am in Australia with direct news from Egypt, completely bypassing the (largely corrupt) mainstream media.
It’s this ability to bypass mainstream media that is helping to get the truth out about Palestine. Blogs, Facebook, twitter – it’s all part of that. There’s lots of pointless crap also in the world of social media (I don’t care what you had for breakfast) but I just ignore that…
What does “trending” mean?
The software that runs twitter has algorithms that are on the lookout for a sudden rise in the use of a term of hashtag or set of words. If it recognises that a lot of people are using the same words all at once then something possibly newsworthy has happened and that term will appear on the ‘trending’ list at twitter.com if you are signed in as a twitter user (If you aren’t signed in then you don’t see the trending list).
Here is Mondoweiss’ twitter page:
link to twitter.com
You notice that some of the tweets are authored by MW, while others are listed as ‘Retweeted by Mondoweiss’ – which means that the person using the MW account has seen a tweet that they like and hit the re-tweet button to share it with everyone following the MW account.
How is twitter different from Facebook?
The fact that US State Dept lays such heavy emphasis on “social media” and urges people to use it makes me suspicious — does DHS have a backdoor into Twitter & Facebook that makes any communication laughably wide open to access by powers that be? Why else would Hillary Clinton have a special envoy for social media, and US govt relentlessly cite the role of “social media” in the ‘Arab spring’ protests? Yeah, I’m equal parts cynical and paranoid. How secure do YOU feel in the privacy of your communications?
Thanks.
Retweeting is an efficient way to spread the word about anything fast, once you have a certain number of followers. Tweets are good to initiate and spread news, point of view on anything–need to be concise at 14o, I think, character limit, including any link. Facebook is passe except for what use to be called gossip.
roha, it’s very helpful for research. for example, i just went to the hashtag #BDS and discovered WAPO’s: Caterpillar pulled from social indexes over company’s use in Palestinian territories!
the article did not mention bds but it’s covering the story, after mondoweiss of course.
