In ‘productive’ day in J’lem, Clinton ducks question about settlements

During Secretary Clinton’s press availability Monday in Jerusalem– which was not available to four Palestinians journalists whom the US Consulate had invited but who refused to drop their pants at Israeli security in order to get in– Clinton said: “it’s been a very busy and active, productive day here in Jerusalem.”

Reporters were allowed some questions.

QUESTION: Yes, Madam Secretary. In the three years since the Obama Administration made Arab-Israeli peace a top priority, there has been no progress. To what do you attribute this failure? And if you could do it all over again, would the Obama Administration do anything differently – maybe on the issue of settlements?

SECRETARY CLINTON: Brad, I’m looking forward because I think that’s where the future lies and where any potential agreements and solutions are waiting for us. As I said, we remain focused on the resumption of direct negotiations, since we believe that is the only route to a lasting, stable peace. My message to both Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas was the same, namely that the international community can help – the United States, the Quartet, we stand ready to do so to help support an environment for talks, but it’s up to the parties to do the hard work for peace.

And to those who say the timing isn’t right, the other side has to move first, or the trust just isn’t there, I say peace won’t wait and the responsibility falls on all of us to keep pressing forward. So the United States will keep showing up, as we have for many years now. We’ll keep pushing our friends to do what they can to move the agenda forward. And we will do everything possible to try to see this vision of peace between Israel and the Palestinians realized.

MS. NULAND: Next question

It would be really great if Clinton would turn around and say “you know Fred, the Israelis are nuts. And we are afraid of them. Because they are paranoid. Very unstable. And they think this is going to work out for them. But it isn’t. And it’s too messy for us to fix so we are just going to stand by and watch. Because it’s not our problem , is it? AIPAC is there for them”.

Of course she’s gonna say negotiate. Faced with the consequences of the Law, which falls in the side of the Palestinians way back to 1948, Israel would be sent bankrupt for years attempting to pay compensation and all those luverly ‘facts on the ground’ infrastructure and construction contracts and apartment sales would all be totally f%&ked.

Israel MUST negotiate a settlement in order to circumvent the law. If faced with the consequences of the Law, all those Israelis who have for years lived in oblivion would either have to become Palestinians or be re-located. We’d see an Israeli civil war………..outside of Israel. As such the neighbouring Regional Powers, would have the right, as they did May 15th 1948 to intervene.

The crapper is almost full, someone will have to empty it soon

But I thought that in ’48 war there was no intervention by the Arab states? Sometimes history can be so confusing, when it comes to bashing Israel, isn’t so ?

How is your comment responsive to talknic’s? Also, the Arab states intervened in ’48 on the Palestinian side of the UN partition line–because the Jews were grabbing more land there by force.

“But I thought that in ’48 war there was no intervention by the Arab states?”

Really? Amazing!! According to this reputable source, (you’ll no doubt consider it to be an antisemitic Israel bashing propaganda site, right?), the Arab States invaded “Palestine”. “Palestine” was “outside of the State of Israel” according to the Provisional Israeli Government statement to the UNSC on May 22nd 1948.

” Sometimes history can be so confusing”

I guess so, especially when you’ve never seen any.

Hillary Mann Leverett about Clinton’s visit to Egypt over at Race for Iran.
“Egypt’s Post-Mubarak Evolution Challenges America’s Hegemonic Ambitions in the Middle East” Unable to link. Worth watching/listening
We share above a panel discussion Hillary participated in yesterday on Al Jazeera’s Inside Story on the U.S.-Egyptian relationship and Secretary Clinton’s recent visit to Egypt. The discussion may be viewed by clicking on the video frame above or through the link here. Egypt’s future trajectory is critical to the strategic balance in the Middle East—and, thus, to both the United States and the Islamic Republic. The discussion suggests that Egypt’s post-Mubarak evolution is likely to be quite problematic for the United States—and, therefore, a strategic gain for Tehran and others who seek to push back against Washington’s hegemonic ambitions in the region.

    • Kathleen says:

Hillary Mann Leverett whips it up during the discussion “Egypt has been subordinated to Israeli interest” for decades.

    • Hostage says:

Clinton told General Tantawi of the SCAF to press on and honor the agreement to turn over power to the civilian government. She was able to waive the prohibition on providing foreign assistance to a military coup regime last year, but the author of the bill that permitted that waiver has said that he will place a hold on future funding if the military retains power.

  4. Citizen says:

Egyptians threw fruit and shoes at Hillary in Egypt. She’s looking forward to the Israelis and Palestinians working things out at the negotiation table with Uncle Sam wearing his honest broker face being the referee, and behind his back Sam is giving Israel more cash & credit, and the most lethal cutting edge weapons –for free & sans conditions, while Israelis drink vodka tonics and swim in their backyard pools filled with Palestinian water and Palestinians drink sewage water to complement their Israeli-imposed minimum survival diet. Isn’t Hillary a self-identifying Presbyterian?
Didn’t the Presbyterians have a hand in some US judicial cases against US companies and against Israel–for crimes against humanity aided and abetted by US corporations–based on the Nuremberg trials of the German industrialists? I guess Hillary’s not worried since a federal district court held Israel may kill US
citizens protesting on site Israel’s demolition of native homes as it’s a US political decision, hence out of the jurisdiction of any US court. For Obama and/or Congress to decide, which they have, obviously, since not a peep from either one about such travesty. link to lynncontext.com

Has anyone a clue whether or not Corrie v Caterpillar’s “that’s a political question” decision will be appealed to SCOTUS? I guess not since it’s been about 5 years.
Too bad the German industrialists didn’t have that way of avoiding accountability when they were tried for aiding and abetting Nazi war crimes. “Victor’s Justice.” In one case you try the pricks, in the next, you ignore what they do, and praise them. I guess Goering was right, and Israel assumed he was right, and America deludes itself. But, hey, we Americans are catching up! Even Obama has joined our descent into a police state and lackey of Israel.

  5. Hostage says:

    Isn’t Hillary a self-identifying Presbyterian?

I don’t know. I’ve read that her folks were Methodists and that she has taught Sunday school classes in a Methodist Church. She and Bill attend Foundry Methodist Church when they are in D.C.

    • Citizen says:

Hostage, my bad, she is Methodist; wonder how her child will raise her kid? I just read too that 1/3rd of all marriages are interfaith in USA, and 50% of Jews intermarry. I guess the crux is, in what religion do they raise their kids? Catholic clergy use to put pressure on Catholics to raise them Catholic, not so much now; but Jewish community still puts lots of pressure to raise kid as Jewish in case of intermarriage.

Hilary says: Brad, I’m looking forward because I think that’s where the future lies

That is incredibly profound. We all knew that Hillary was one of the most brilliant politicians and statesmen that ever existed. But this is the proof. She looks forward because that is where the future lies!! No one in the history of man realized that if we look forward then that is the future! I am humbled at not realizing such a profound truth. We should all fall on our knees in appreciation if she could just let us know that “if we look backwards then that is where history lies”
